This is a really good theory for addressing this new wave of "cancel culture". Because we are more engaged with hyper realistic media texts, we have an unrealistic expectations of celebrities. When they do something that doesn't fit their "perfect" narrative, we're ready to throw them in the bin! (Metaphorically speaking) - Letitia Wright is the latest victim. I think I'm going to update my lessons to have this discussion with my students.
_"Representation attempts to absorb simulation by interpreting it as a false representation, simulation envelops the whole edifice of representation itself as a simulacrum. Such would be the successive phases of the image: it is the reflection of a profound reality; it masks and denatures a profound reality; it masks the absence of a profound reality; it has no relation to any reality whatsoever; it is its own pure simulacrum."_ - Baudrillard thanks for the video, really helped me understand this a bit better. I find most mid-century French philosophers tend to speak in purposely obtuse ways. your videos are a lifesaver!
Another amazing video, really enjoyed the metaphor of the oranges, really concise. My students are going to love this, especially the ones that haven’t yet wrap their heads around postmodernism yet. Thanks
ive spent so long looking for videos to explain postmodernism PROPERLY. this is the only one that does the job. thank you very much. watching her videos can make you turn from the average C student to an A if not A* student. i am living proof. thanks again.
I'm a college student who has to write an 1800 word essay based on this theory which was taught to us in class but I didn't understand our classes and I didn't understand any of the videos online because they're just quoting Baudrillard. THIS VIDEO IS A GAME CHANGER! Where can I sign up to be your student? I finally feel like I can start writing my essay. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much! I am a university student and just began reading Simulacra and Simulation for my dissertation and nearly had a panic attack! Really appreciate this content, you made it much more approachable.
I just used this as part of A-level sociology revision (we have a topic on postmodernists) as I didn’t understand it, but you have made it really clear! Thank you x
Thank you so much Mrs Fisher. I was struggling with all these new words and their meanings, but you nailed it for me with the visuals, which reinforces that I understand new concepts etc. if I can see it explained visually . So cool of you to share this video, greatly appreciated.
Okay Substitute the Orange for a solid working man from the year 1900 yeh Then have the Chocolate Orange as some guy with fake tan and fake teeth from Love Island Who would the two men be in between the labourer from the 1900’s and the poser from 2022?
alighiero alighieri Yes thanks I think I do clarify that on the written on screen text / graphics in the top left. I actually got a GCSE in Latin but still got my words muddled up when filming! 🤦🏼♀️
Teachers don’t understand it because it’s mostly just bullshit from a charlatan. - Seems to me that in your well done introduction you covered everything of substance in baudrillards philosophy.
I know that this is aimed at 6th formers, but this really helps me as a Uni student lol

Nice! You don't pronounce the Ls in Baudrillard though
Hi! Great video, Could you link this theory to the advert CSP's- I'm Doing Score and Maybelline
Hi miss
Okay

Then have the Chocolate Orange as some guy with fake tan and fake teeth from Love Island
Who would the two men be in between the labourer from the 1900’s and the poser from 2022?
every time you pronounce the L in Baudrillard, a french philosopher dies inside. great video though. thanks
Ha ha, I know! I deliberately try and pronounce theorists names phonetically so it makes it easier for my students to spell.
horrible comment
rude
It is a simulacrum of an orange, not simulacra. In Latin simulacrum is singular while simulacra is plural. .
alighiero alighieri Yes thanks I think I do clarify that on the written on screen text / graphics in the top left. I actually got a GCSE in Latin but still got my words muddled up when filming! 🤦🏼♀️
It didn't make any sense heck
