I have the same machine and never remove the red guard. As long as you rotate the red guard when you lower or raise the infeed and outfeed table the red guard does not need to be removed.👍
how is the drive belt life, I have the other model with the different fence and the belts stretched, did not catch it until the cutter head stared making a loud noise, ended up blowing a belt recently, replaced with a better grade, I use the mine quite a bit processing reclaimed wood mainly hard wood pallets,

That happened to my $2,800 Inca, and it stripped a very non-standard gear (and they're out of business). An expensive paperweight now. :(
