This is a very nice idea all around. My husband just happened by when you were holding the sole with your hand and drilling into it. He said to me, "...if you try that you better have that[the sole] in a vice so you have both hands on the drill. Safer that way." He is probably right. I am going to try your idea on my next project. Thanks!
I was at my doctors office the other day, they printed my receipt, and tore off the track feed edges to separate the copies. I asked for the torn off edges. This is 1/4 inch holes in a 11.5 in strip. It makes it simple to mark your holes around the flip-flop. I also use the loom Knitting quick hook to punch the holes. It's angled and makes quick work of making holes.
You should consider a couple of dollars for some clamps to hold those so you don't have worry about your fingers, and you can use both hands to hold that drill and get better stability for what you're drilling. There are many kinds of clamps available, and you can find sone that will work for you.
Lucille sweetie, instead of a drill, it'd be easier to use an Awul or a loom knitting hook. Using either of the two is much faster and gives a much nicer clean hole. I got mine at Walmart by the sewing tools section. Now the loom knitting hook will be found with the knitting looms where the yarn, crochet hooks, & knitting needles are. Thought that might help. 😺
Thanks for your comment though I like the drimmel drill tool I have tried several others this is faster for me and the holes come out nice any tool will leave residue...but thanks for viewing!
as long as it leaves an impression or mark in the spot so you know where to put your holes. sometimes I just used a ballpoint pen and pressed in no ink but a good impression was made kind of a small hole. hopes this helps.
Melissa Huff No,you can't hot glue. When wearing the boots the hot glue rips the rubber sole very easily. Crocheting through the sole is much stronger.
I liked the video. However it seems to me that going from the bottom of the flip flop to the outside edge is wrong. When you do it that way you are constantly walking on your crochet stitches. If you go from the side , upward to top side of the flip flop, your beautiful shoes would last much longer.
You are welcome! have to buy some flip flops now myself. Your crochet boots are my favorite project Thanks for sharing so glad you are back

How can I get the manufacturers of this sole
Great idea!
good afternoon, where do you buy this rubber?
To mark the spots to be drilled on the dark color sole you can use a white gel pen or a white-out (correcter) pen.
as long as it leaves an impression or mark in the spot so you know where to put your holes. sometimes I just used a ballpoint pen and pressed in no ink but a good impression was made kind of a small hole. hopes this helps.
Hi Lucille, I used a size 5 knitting needle to make he holes. It was easy peasy.
What a wonderful idea.
how about a circular mattress needle. it curves through.
I love this idea thank you
Hi Lucille i lost my moccasin boot pattern I lost all my contacts when they got rid of XP
I would like to buy a new pattern
can you just hot glue them on there?
Melissa Huff No,you can't hot glue. When wearing the boots the hot glue rips the rubber sole very easily. Crocheting through the sole is much stronger.
This method would work well to turn these flip flops into shower shoes.
Do I start the sides
you can on the sides and drill a slanted hole up ! Hope this answers your question. Thanks
Thank you and Happy new year

Yep, she's going from the top down. Old Navy doesn't place a painted on logo on the bottom of a flip flop.
This video was so crazy! Putting holes in 99 cents store shoes. Please read your Bible!🥵
