I have a Nephroi deck with a modular subtheme. The creatures are all 0/0 so i can bring them all back. Then sac them again with Angelic Aberration and have a board full of 4/4 flying vigis. Its pretty fun :)
Absolutely solid brother. Always nice to see another that partakes in the perfection that is mutate commander plays. I've built my Vadrok deck to be a three mana graveyard cast, punish, and bounce engine. I love it. Keep up the work dude.
Here here for Vadrok. My own mutate deck. Especially fun to Cackling Counterpart the mutate stack, then bounce it back to hand with Aether Spellbomb or the like. Build a stack that's big, buff, and has a par of Vadrok triggers on each mutate. Just remember that Jeskai Ascendency is distinctly NOT a casual card anywhere near Vadrok. It goes infinite and durdly just far too easily. Separately, Sevinne's Reclamation and its cast from graveyard clause are just silly in a Vadrok deck..
Oh HECK YEAH brother, this is my kind of video 💚 Stormchaser Drake is an MVP mutate target in my Ivy mutate deck along with the rhino you mentioned in the video. Keep up the great work and thanks for spreading the word on cool mutate cards!
Best mutate commander is Ramos, Dragon Engine for sure. Gets bigger every time you mutate onto him, and mutating on top removes the artifact type so he isn’t weak to artifact destruction. The best two mutate cards are Lore Drakkis and Nethroi, and to run both you need 5 colors, brother.
I know I'm a mutant because I was invited to a school for the gifted... They even brought me a personal short bus!!! Hope you hyenas have a good ass day!!!
I built a whole deck around Bolo Yeung himself (Henry Wu, Ingen Geneticist) that’s all about mutating the self-replicating creatures. Aww, looks like a cute Minions Secret Lair with the Homunculus Horde, up until I slap a Sawtusk Demolisher on top. Kinda like the Happy Tree Friends version of Despicable Me
I think i commented this last time mutate came up but either way, fomments are good for that al-go-rithm brother. Anyway, I really like Tawnos the Toymaker as a commander with mutate creatures. Since most mutate creatures in those colors are beasts or birds, they work directly with Tawnos' ability. And his ability functions uniquely with mutate. When Tawnos copies a mutate spell, the copy is created on the stack with the same choices made for it, e.g. it’s still being cast for its mutate cost and it’s still targeting the same target. The copy will resolve first and mutate the target as normal. If the token is put over the creature, then the resulting stack is both an artifact and a token. If it’s put under, then those characteristics don’t matter. The original spell will resolve and also mutate the target. This means that both the copy and the original’s “whenever this creature mutates” triggers will trigger at that point, leading to a total of three triggers from the spell and its copy.
@bettercommander I run a Xyris the Writhing Storm deck that is just creating token copies of crazy creatures), mutating onto them, then converting my snakes into am army of Illunas or some crazy shit.
I do love using Cackling Counterpart with my mutate stacks. Do be aware that a fresh mutate atop of a token will turn the stack into a "card." Then again, maybe you do want to be tossing random Mutates atop a non-human Progenitor Mimic so that more and more tokens are now cardified again and proceeding to make ever more creatures during your upkeep.
I had Ivy Mutate/auras deck but its just got me targeted at the table so i took it apart. And yes while only in two colors the green and blue mutate creatures are really good .
Gonna be honest, I've played a few people running an Ivy mutate deck.. and it's.. well, it's hell to keep track of everything as an opponent. Is it good deck? Absolutely! But hell... it's incredibly hard to tell wtf is going on with the Ivy player's board state and incredibly powerful. You need a note pad just to keep track of all the shit going on. Too much work imo. XD
@@sonork oh i agree even piloting the deck can get confusing. I had a Vesuvan Duplimancy in the deck and when that was out it was almost impossible to keep track of everything going on.
It really is cool. I skipped Ikoria completely. Just didn't have time and wasn't in an area where I was playing, but then I moved back to where all my magic friends were and picked up Jared Carthalion 5C deck and got a bunch of these mutate dudes and just had to pick up some singles from Ikoria. I made Jared into 5C tribal and dropped the mutate from that deck, but I am thinking of making a mutate deck.. Thanks for giving me the idea to mutate onto Child of Alara. Mutually assured destruction. Just make sure to keep counterspells ready for the exile effects and I'm golden. Just kidding, I'm not a monster, just a mutant. But if we get more X-Men, like a 5C Phoenix perhaps... Then I can mutate onto the mutants brother!
Thanks for the video. I just realized that mutate plays well with vehicles. That would be an interesting direction to build....
Yeah. Vehicles have some unique abilites, and are usually cheaper mana wise and money wise. Could be interesting.
This mechanic and modular need wayyyyyyyyyyy more support. It’s criminal that emerge got expanded before mutate.
Agree
Love mutate and modular. Would love to see what else can be done
They've said that they unfortunately don't plan on supporting mutate further due to the nightmarish rulings that it causes.
@ sad 😢
I have a deck with Bonny Pall which is dedicated solely to mutating and copying Beau. Having four 14/14 fliers is something

It's ok man. True story, my middle school bully had webbed fingers
xD
Mutating a Cavern Whisperer onto a Nacatl War Pride is a great finisher
I never thought of nacatl war pride as a mutate target. I must do this now.
The oni blade does the same thing
Creating copies isn’t the same as mutating though so it would still only trigger once on the discard right?
Doesn't work ?
@jeffreylong1478 they all have menace so most of them won't be blocked.
Its well known at my lgs that mutate is my favourite mechanic, ive had a ramos wubrg mutate and an animar mutate/eldrazi deck. Was fun times.
after this video im entering the xmen school
What is your mutation? Mine is a third leg.
@@bettercommander damn that's a good one..mine would be eat without getting full

I looked at that fella. Interesting
You cant mytate onto a human...
I wanted to build a wolverine mutate but there’s not enough Gruul mutate to really make it pop.
Mutate onto a token, then populate, or use Brudiclad like effects.
Hellyeah dude.

Mutate onto the mutants, sounds like an '80's dance club activity.
This video made me mutate into a GNOLL.
Oh, sorry about that.
I JUST built a cromat mutate deck, very bad but thats why im here brother
Well, they can be a little inconsistent. Take a look at my lists, lots of fixing on a budget.
Im sad we never got a 5 color mutate commander.
Yeah, sucks real hard man
You did a long time ago! Child of Alara
Cromat!!
@@Zeromus5555 there is one from an un-set. Surgeon General commander. Alot of groups would allow it.
Ironically can't target the X-Men cards with Mutate.
That's BS!
Neither wolwerine nor storm are Humans though, both are valid targets
You can, they’re not humans
Yeah, I went and checked Wolverine, some mutate in there is fine.
