This song is not redemptive. The original text is one of penitence, not praise. A caution to those who seek to avoid eternal damnation. And there is a line missing "are rightly displeased". Sins are subjective.

I guess there was just no way for McGlynn to fix the error of leaving out "Iuste Irasceris", though that rather mangles the meaning of the words.

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL and awe-inspiring song, in the classical sense of the term. This is the sort of inspiration that drives pure, loving faith, and the world needs more of it.
The lead singer is very talented, I only wish he could put the *force* behind it as much as Michael did in the 1995 version. The '95 version had that little something extra, I don't know if it's Michael but it's probably Michael.
Sam can knock you over at 20 paces. Must just be Michael's fantastic personality.
@@anunachoir lol! I notice a difference too, but don't think it has to do with force. More like mood, or interpretation. There is an edge in the 1995 version that almost becomes discordant. There is something close to anguish in the earlier recording; the resolution, almost resignation at the end, is therefore quite poignant. This one is more calm, more content. It is fulfilled and satisfied. The difference between Gethsemane and Pentecost, to my ears anyway. Both recordings are magnificent. Thank you for them.

Hey! I just came by to say that this liturgical music was written to praise God, yet most came for the show. The truth is that we all need Jesus Christ, and He loves us in a way that we (for sure) need to be revealed… He conquered my heart in a indescribable way…
I'm glad to hear you have faith. It isn't for you to judge anyone's motivation. Christ never did that. His view was that all of us are the same, sinner or saint, and that love lies at the centre of healthy community. Love and tolerance. Your journey is whatever it is, but this performance is a community experiencing beauty together, and, in our humble opinion, that is enough. I think Jesus would have enjoyed the show. Reportedly he was into that himself.

@@anunachoir Tolerance? I may be misunderstanding you but Jesus Christ was never tolerant. During his earthly life, He was, and still is very much against the works of the devil.

No - you aren't misunderstanding me.
We read in the New Testament what is best for societal harmony, hopefully, and it has to be born in mind that large quantities of the Bible were suppressed, mistranslated and politically constructed contemporaneously. The three quotes you make are ambiguous at best. You could read the first as related to bad parents, bad leaders, bad priests and misleading people with lies, which we all know is where politics is going today. The second seems to say don't lend money in a church as a business, and the last is to try not to let you antisocial weaknesses out of control. Hell - well, that is bollox really. It all seems pretty clear and not intolerant of anything.

Bring back thd Catholic in its true form. Get away from the secular influence.
This is why many true Catholic ard seeking the Traditional church. The Latin Mass, communion rail, the host placed on the tongue by the priest. Etc. Not a hand shaking social hour. But complete absorption of Jesus Christ.

I like this version of song even more than original one. I think you removed mistakes from previous and distilled pure essence of the song. ^_^
This should be what you hear when you go into all churches. Luckily the trad Latin Mass still exists, but this is particularly moving.

Very good! I think I preferred the slightly quicker pace of the original video I saw, as it gave an extra sense of immediacy, power, and intensity. This seems almost more dirge-like (perhaps better suited to the meaning of the words? My Latin fails me now). But still going into my Favorites nevertheless. :)
+Hannelore17 the other recording was a lypsynch. This actually isn't so we are singing into a space relying on the natural acoustic to lead us. Also the original was sung mainly by untrained singers who would have breathed in a shallow manner. As we unify today on the breath we usually just let the song naturally fall into that rhythm. The whole piece breathes now. Before it was about a different kind of energy and one that had its place (and still would if we were reliant on a forest of microphones).

If the song was a little faster and the ladies were a little louder then would be even in my opinion. But overall I think it’s not too bad. 🤔🙂
High praise. We couldn't shove the ladies any closer to the mikes. They were walking throughout most of it. The speed is dictated by the singers. Unlike the previous video from 1995, this one is actually live.
I like this....but the only thing is that the men's voices are overpowering the women's. What I liked so much about the older version is that the two blended together so well. In this one it doesn't.
