Elfen Lied, Corpse Party, Mononoke, and Perfect Blue. They scared the living daylights out of me. 😧😨😱
Top 10 anime characters who can never be trusted.
Eren Yeager. (Attack on Titan.)
None because I love horror anime
You have made one wrong time stamp entry, in SHIKI u have written WHEN THEY CRY
@@sweetandsourdish3723 Elfen Lied is more INSANELY disturbing than scary. The scene where Kouta’s little sister gets chopped in half legit traumatized me for weeks!
Lain really was ahead of it's time
It almost perfectly predicted the technical future
Great soundtrack too
I can't believe the anime is so old yet predicted the internet ridden society
It also predicted insane conspiracy theories, in particular the question about our existence (are we all just living in a giant simulation? Are aliens keeping the truth from us? etc.).
Its relatively tech accurate too
Binged a couple episodes high at 2am shit was crazy i was lost 💀💀💀
Shiki is probably the scariest vampire anime I’ve ever watched. The way the vampires eyes shined in the darkness was terrifying to look at.
shiki at 9 is kinda wild, watching that show wayback alone at home in the dark at 15 year old mightve not been the best decision 💀
Yeah, the only thing I don’t like about it is the ending
@@kowaikokoro that’s why I watched it in the afternoon so I didn’t get nightmares 😂
@@chardy8262 I agree. So many people who’ve seen it tell me the same thing
What?? I watched Shiki and it was a 3 at best... definitely nothing even close to scary
The Higarashi Series - Those Different Timelines with all those different Brutal Killings were terrifying. Especially Rika using a Knife on herself.
Fuck that, wen satako was beating her ass in every timeline
God, that AMV Hell segment with Rika synced to Night at the Roxbury killed the whole thing for me.
I liked both Aniplex and the Funimation versions as well the specials.
Nipah!!!
So basically re zero but child friendly

Another was not scary
@@youtubeaccountserio2633 Neither was Erased. In my opinion at least
Devil man crybaby and made in abyss are two of my favorite anime
parasyte is not scary at all
it is fucking overrated
Paranoia agent should have been on this list. It is scary in all the right way.
Paranoia agent is actually a mystery, psychological thriller it's not in scary or horror genre
Its not scary its terrifying
It was in no way scary lol
@TrickyHunter most of the anime on this list aren't scary. Hellsing ultimate has a dark theme but it is closer to an action anime then horror.
Oh yea
Higurashi was the ONLY anime where I really felt terrified and paranoid that I couldnt sleep at night. I was a highschooler back then and of course the artstyle looks sht to modern standards but Higurashi cemented its place in my head. Same with Perfect Blue and Lain.
The old Higurashi art style is so much more haunting than in the latest seasons. Truly uncanny valley. Such a great show to watch through tho
Serial experiments lain is one of the which was ahead of it's time. It is underrated anime that everyone should watch and one more things let's all love lain.
Higurashi is still the best horror anime I've ever watched, and i don't think any other anime will top it, if anything does, I'll be surprised.
I have PTSD from that anime....it was the first horror anime I watched
@@MCG55SS it's the best one I've watched so far.
Same, Higurashi takes the cake for me
Agreed. Still the best. Made in Abyss tried to steal it's swag but came up short.
@@mistreviews haven't watched it but its on my list, i followed it up with Shiki but it fell way way way short compared.
Elfen Lied,Higurashi,Evangelion,Hellsing Ultimate,Gantz, and Ghost Hunt scare the hell out of me,especially the chapters,The Bloodstained Labyrinth,I don't want to die, gets me every time!😱😱😱
same.that ep is messed up but brilliant
The scariest anime’s are the ones that aren’t too far off from reality.
I know right
And thats why higurashi is by far scariest anime ever
"Erased" had one hell of a twist with that car scene. It was so good.
"Hellsing"'s got some crazy stuff. The major's speech in English is one of the best examples of a dub though; I get chills listening to that charismatic bastard talk about war.
"Made in Abyss" is a masterpiece. The author is insane, the world he's written is horrific, the setting keeps getting more horrifying, and it rides the morally grey line so very well.
"Parasyte" was amazing. The anime made some awful choices (dubstep, character redesigns), but it did a damn good job adapting a magnificent story.
"Another" was more of a comedy with how people started getting offed near the end. You could add the Benny Hill theme and it'd fit.
"When They Cry" is a wild ride. The original series is absolutely wild, and the second series is crazy fun. The spinoffs are equally enjoyable. Sotsu and Gou however? Skip those, they were trash.
I put off watching Parasyte because I just assumed that it was just another Generic action gore fest. Finally watched it a year or 2 ago and fell in love. Deep story and characters, excellent monster design and Next To You is a musical masterpiece.
I know right
THANKYOU MADE IN ABYSS IS AMAZING
I'm surprised Hell Girl isn't on this list. Those stories explaining The Dark Side of Humanity & The Consequences of ones evil actions with a one-way trip to Hell.
That series was so good
I actually watched hell girl
I used to stress a lot watching Hell Girl. The characters were so evil that I just wanted them to burn in hell as soon as possible
Yeah Hell Girl is Almost Forgot that one of the Horror Anime with sense of despair and misery in the end of time.
But some part is very tragic like in Hell Girl Season 2 or 3 which one I've encountered is that girl as vessel of Enma Ai are very similar pain to that girl and enma ai that she made her realized she's just ghost all along in the series and she already dead as kid with her mother and that little girl I mean the FMC in Hell Girl Season 2 she suffered from starvation since her mother can't find the other jobs or part time jobs for their daily needs and they've been spreading bad rumors about the Female Main Character and her Mother to that story after her father died due to mechanical problems in bus as bus driver then lot people they died on that accident that is I've been remembered the detail of the story of hell girl that some part is very tragic when it becomes in RL Despair and Misery and Neverending Pain of the World.
I’m surprised nothing from Junji Ito made it to this list. Also, Berserk could’ve been here too just for the eclipse, and even more if we count the parts that haven’t been animated.
It isn’t really anime but manga tbf and the anime adaptation wasn’t anywhere as unsettling as the manga since they’re just short stories with no development
@@basantadarios6899I def agree the anime episodes were LAME compared to the manga
ELFEN LIED certainly is one of the most disturbing and violent cartoons ever made. Case-in-point, episode 5
but was it really scary though?
@@Daddy_Sexy To many online, no but what is scary to me isn't scary to others. To really disturb or unsettle people, you got to play on realistic fears (e.g. poverty, domestic violence, rape/sexual abuse, racism, economic warfare, prisons). ELFEN LIED deals with some of those issues head-on (e.g. rape, violence against children, torture)
Absolutely agree
Proof that animes aren't only for kids
Well yeah there's a lot of adult anime
It doesn't matter kids watch them too.
Why do you need proof for that? Anime are Japanese cartoons. Adult cartoons exist and have existed for a while now so I don't get your point
@@beetlejuulzsome people believe that animation is exclusively for children.
@@kirbules0058 well these people lack some brain matter then XD
so happy to see ghost Hunt in this video.great anime and that episode where she's strapped to the table is brilliant
Besides Yamishibai, the first few episodes of Another, the first season of Higurashi and a few others, I don't think there's too many anime that could be considered proper horror. Most anime that are labeled as "horror" are really just thriller, mystery, psychological, gore or dark fantasy. It's a shame because I think there's a lot of potential for the horror genre in anime, especially considering all the quality source material like horror manga or light novels that deserve an adaptation.
There are a lot, mostly out from this list
@@Saddonghussein recommend me some. I'm always looking for new stuff to watch.
@@Rain-jx1po because I don't know what you already saw, I'm going to say, lily cat, wicked city, urotsukidoji, yoma, princess miyu, neo Tokyo, if you saw d. @@Saddonghussein I've seen a lot of the anime and movies you mentioned, but there's also a few in there I've never heard about. Gonna give them a watch. Thanks bud 👍
Two of my favorite horror anime are Serial Experiments Lain and Happy Sugar Life. That one is criminally underrated.
satoshi kon is an absolute genius.perfect blue is a perfect mix of paranoia, trancy illusions and fear
What's really scary about the Yamashibai stories is how most ends abruptly. Leaving wondering if the MC of some of those stories lives or dies. Some are obvious, but still ends abruptly. I can't wait for the new season next month.
Thank you for the update, WatchMojo..!! I've got to watch some of them on the list, as I have not heard of them until today. 🤣
i take it ur new to anime
The promised neverland teach us one thing. It has one of the most beautiful lullaby you can ever hear. Or so it seems at the start. It's still beautiful in the end but when you hear it you know you are dead as heck.
I’m surprised Junji Ito didn’t make the list
Junji ito manga no anime
@@JasonCan-wp2fureally 😶
Junji ito manga is amazing, a genuine piece of artwork that should not be viewed as just a horror manga. The anime on the otherhand... Is an abomination
@@bondrewedthesoverignofdawn1477 I kinda liked the anime…

Good to see that Corpse Party's anime adaption is still remembered... Still hate Yuka's death though.
oh it is remembered... for being a butchered adaptation that cuts WAY too much to pad its very short runtime
just play the original game instead to get the full picture AND canon ending
@@martinde-serres8724 That is exactly why I hated it. I've seen enough playthroughs of the first game to know that most of the main characters survived in the end. In the anime, only 2, TWO, members of the main cast survived.
@@ARTSONICFAN990 that's what I hate with anime adaptations of video games: they mostly don't follow the source material and just do their own thing with the cast and settings, but that depends on the game they adapt though
Corpse Party already has an established story, this is just both an abridged version AND a wrong end route made specifically for the OVA
@@martinde-serres8724 Well said.

As for Umineko, it's much better to read the visual novel or the manga, because the anime leaves too much to be desired (aside from the soundtrack, which is very good)
The Corpse Party and Umineko anime adaptations being on this list is criminal
What about Urotsukidoji or Blood-C?? Wicked City, Demon City, Devilman, Devilman Lady. Not sure if it's considered horror but Boogiepop Phantom? The Junji Ito Collection also has a few scary episodes. I'd also put School Days because of the psychological torture and the ending. End of Evangelion should 100% be on this list
This would have been better as a Halloween list.
That alien scene from Lain scarred me as a kid watching this on Anime Unleashed on my little TV in my room after my parents had gone to sleep. 😂😂
When I thought of watching this video, I didn't think that Yamishibai, would be in the top 20, but I am glad that it is, it is one of those horror stories, that creep you out, but in some cases, it is so spooky that is is good.
I know right
I love Umineko!!! I wish they would of came out with a second season to it. I like it better than Higruashi since its faster pace and easier to get into and very scary. Great list. Corpse party is very disturbing. I love horror movies, anime and shows, but I will never watch that one again. Another is one of my favorites as well.
Read the Visual Novel or if you can't find the time to do so read the manga instead
both are far better in basically every aspect than the anime but the visual novel is slightly better than the manga with it's iconic soundtrack and superior voice acting to the anime
The Anime condenses roughly 60 hours of the visual novel's question arcs into 24 anime episodes it's difficult to even call it the same show at that point and those 60 hours are all well worth it so it's best to just start from scratch rather than continueing from the answer arcs
Generally speaking it's kind of a taboo to even mention Umineko's anime as it is genuinly that bad compared to both the Manga and VN
Mononoke’s animation style is gorgeous! I wanna watch Erased. Eventually I’ll watch all of these. 💙 Paranoia could have been on this list, but glad to see Corpse Party on here.
Erased is one of the best mystery thrillers of late. I watched it pretty new, them me and mom watched the live action and that was good too.
Also completely forgot about Blue Gender, i mean sure, some of the episodes later on dropped the horror and added action, but you got to admit that the first few episodes are scary
I was just saying to myself the other day how that series is underrated, glad to see someone show some love it was a good solid 7.5-8
The fact you put another in actually shows this one was done properly with thought versus as other anime videos you put up

@@VSaber365 Like that creep who harrased Asuna in front of Kirito for instance.
Harassed? More like straight up molested and assaulted her until Kirito decided to step up for real and literally hack and slash that ultimately pitiful villain a couple of new ones TWICE in the same evening.
@@VSaber365 Believe me, it was satisfying watching that jerk die.
Shout out start one of my favorite and most unsettling animes of all time Higurashi when they cry that is in my all time, favorite horror, animes, and anyone who hasn’t seen it should check it out the atmosphere the characters, the gore, the freaking cicadas, all top-tier
Honestly Higurashi series is just a master piece 💯 scary as shit tho, so I obviously didn't finish 🗿
...you didn't finish an anime because it was too scary? Are you 8?
Should've added Gyo and the Island of Giant Insects to this list.
I’ve never heard someone say the umineko anime was a “respectable” adaptation lol
Yes., Yamishibai is so good! I feel like this series could use a bigger following.
No surprise that Elfen Lied is on this list, That anime is a horror and gore icon! I mean it sickens me as much as it does the next person but i'm just saying for those who actually like horror genre anime it's a classic.
What is it about
@@jacobtaylor3096 girls with red eyes and horns on their heads that have invisible arms on their back which can tear people limb from limb.
@@jacobtaylor3096 There's this offshoot of human beings called Diclonius. Beings with invisible ghost arms that can cut through anything. They also have a nasty habit of turning into cold blooded killers if they feel threatened. There's only like 3 of them left in the world as they were exterminated? by humanity. One of those 3 is the main character, Lucy.
I'll tell you this right now: Avoid this abomination of a series if you have a strong sense of justice and happen to be a more emotional person. Practically every vile and immoral act of evil that a human being is capable of is displayed there. Absolutely sickening to its core. I saw it in 2012 and i still have PTSD to this day because of this dogshit of an anime. I had to spend 5 weeks in a mental hospital before my panic attacks finally went away. The most fucked up thing about it is, that there are people in the real world that are actually capable of such cruelty, for no other reason than to spread their malice and misery wherever they go. That was the part that did me in.
Dude! I never again watched Perfect Blue! It’s so good and scary and I was paranoid from the movie.
Excuse me....who are you?
Freaking bone chilling
👏👏👏👏👏
I actually love Made in Abyss, despite all the sad and scary things the anime contains. Don’t get me wrong, Mitty’s death still hurts to this day
I dont think parasyte and erased should be on here. Neither were scary, both were sad.
Yeah they weren't even supposed to be scary.
Totality agree specially erased.
I forgot about Mirai-Nikki,and Another.😱😱😱
They did mention another
Hellsing abridged is amazing
I’d say that anime makes a lot things seem less scary because it gives you the impression that people can fight against powerful supernatural beings.
Mononoke is so underrated, but it's my favourite one. I'm really excited for the movie that's coming this summer.
Same here
11:45 Video's chapter is wrongly named "When they Cry" when it's Shiki anime. Also, Summertime Render is a great psychological horror anime that's horribly underrated.
It is so sad what everyone in Made In Abyss had suffered but I still want to know the end of their journey.
2 Glaring Omissions that I feel compelled to mention are Summertime Rendering and Shadows House.
Summertime Rendering is a series that knows how to do suspense so well. Think Erased but with a more supernatural/shinto-esque bend to it. It's scares are so effective because the characters are written excellently and you genuinely care about their safety. The antagonistic force in this series is honestly pretty unnerving.
Shadows House is the Gothic Horror successor to The Promised Neverland that people need after Season 2. The main characters are all around the same age as those in TPN, and they are stuck in almost as horrible a situation. This series also deals with loss of agency and identity and has extremely cute and likable characters whom live in a world of constant danger and seemingly no outside help.
Yes! In Summertime Rendering, it actually convinced me several times the heroes were going to lose 😨. It was that tense. Shadows House was solid... But the ending fell apart when it became more Shojo than mystery near Season 1 end. Still, it had a strong start IMO.
Glad to know there are people out there that watched the show too. Real shame it was behind Disney+ so many people went without even knowing it existed :(
All of these anime terrified me to my core
Anime in general is such a hauntingly beautiful medium. It’s no surprise that it’s not always for young audiences
16:47 this is like Final Destination but more scarier and better.
As someone who's seen all 5 Final Destination films, I can totally agree with that.

serial experiments lain is one of my favorite animes, i'm glad you mentioned it
RIP Satoshi Kon. I not a huge fan of horror BUT when a anime is done right Perfect blue is up there for me!
When they cry and made in the abyss to me are way more terrifying than perfect blue imo. It's a much more complex story and animation which lends more to intrigue than fear even tho both are present.
I’m very glad to see that Perfect Blue was included, it is fantastic.

I just clicked because faputa was on the thumbnail
Hellsing: Ultimate instilled a genuine fear in me that I still have to this day. I can handle a lot of dark shit, but what happens in Ultimate genuinely disturbed me deeply.
I'm so glad Perfect Blue was given the credit it deserves!
Was really hoping Kaidan Restaurant is in the list. I know it was made for children, but it was scary and disturbing at the same time. A must watch if you ask me.
Another is seriously one of my favourite series. I was totally hooked after the umbrella scene.
Ah, yes. I remember the first time I watched Elfen Lied, it was recommended to me and I watched it with low expectations. Needless to say, the first episode raised those low expectations. Same with the others on this list, with the exception of The Flowers of Evil. The art style kind of turned me off.
Elfen Lied should at least be in The Top 3. Just for The First 10 minutes alone. Decapitation, Ripping out a man's heart, & something so Brutal they wouldn't even show it on screen.
U know wats the scariest anime ever seeing Miku chasing you down the hall
The thumbnail makes me laugh 😂😂😂😂
Blood-C is cool I’m always looking at these lists to find something new to watch.
but what nostalgia I still remember when I saw in 2017 and 2018 higurashi no naku koroni, corpse party, elfen lied and boku dake ga inai machi
The Promised Neverland is not scary
It is not that much scary but really psychological and gore
I knew that “made in abyss” would be here

Their aren't a lot but when thy hit they hit really hard
Oooh! Ghost Hunt, one of my favorite horror animé!
Genocyber has scenes so horrific, like in the beginning of the second OAV, that are grotesque to the max level...
oh yea i can sleep perfectly fine after seeing that thumbnail
Me who's watching this on a phone, i literally have to turn on my flashlight even though it's facing my foot which is great so i can see who's that one particular ghost that randomly wants me to experience a horror scene.

Ghost Hunt is my favourite, and 07 Ghost is a close second

I watched Erased the other day on Netflix, it is a bit scary, main guy gets framed but has abilities to go back to the past to try and rewrite anything and undo some that happened then the killer who is his teacher in the end uncovers him and tries to drown him by sinking him into the river by a car he swapped with another, he did it so he couldn't get caught so easily, Japanese are really Vèry Smàrt people i must say, it was also he who killed the main guys mother and framed him for it
