    What adds the cherry on top for disturbing is his monologue on the bus. He states that what you are hearing is in his head. Meaning other than what he says directly to Muriel and Courage, he is shaving courage in complete silence in the bathroom. The entire time he monologues and hears music in his head, overpowering the dogs screams.

    I saw this episode as an adult and it triggered some nasty memories. It is absolutely a metaphor for sexual abuse. Having the metaphor being hair is a brilliant one, because hair is a huge part of your identity. It's one of the few things about your body that you can control and it shapes how people see you. To have someone forcibly take that away without your consent, especially with no way to defend yourself, and ESPECIALLY when the loved ones meant to protect you laugh, ignore, or enable the abuser... do I really need to elaborate? And after the abuser gets what he wants part of you is missing.

  • @stopcake
    @stopcake 4 года назад +95

    I think this episode is a metaphor about child predators. Because of how courage is often meant to act as the child of the family, his owners are like his parents, and as kids watching the show, we are meant to relate to courage the most. In addition to this, Fred only has an interest in courage, not Muriel, even though she has hair on her head too. The girl that he shaved the hair off of resembles a child a lot. In fact both his past victims are small and innocent looking. Not only that but often times molestation happens by someone you know, a relative for example, and other members of the family disregard them as a possible threat purely because they are family, entrusting them alone with their children, which is exactly what Muriel allowed to happen, and even after he is taken away to the asylum, she still sees him as completely innocent, which reflects the reality of child predators far too much to ignore. To top it off, the way Fred says "naughty" has such an undertone of sexual deviancy for it to simply be about serial killing. That's just my opinion though :)

    I have to politely disagree. In terms of being SA'd, you do NOT have to forgive to heal. With time, I stopped feeling so angry at my abuser, but I never forgave him and never will. Because what he did is not OK, and he knew that. You don't have to decide that "nah, it's OK" because ultimately it doesn't affect your ability to move on. They're responsible for hurting you and nothing changes that whether or not you forgive them.

    • @clarejarboe5272
      @clarejarboe5272 Месяц назад +1

      I wouldn't say forgiveness is saying "That's okay." That's denial, not forgiveness. It's not okay to hurt people, and lying about it being okay isn't the same as forgiveness. Getting along with someone and saying it's water under the bridge isn't forgiveness either. Forgiveness is a conscious decision to let go of anger and resentment towards someone who has harmed you, deciding to let go, and move on.

    Damn man, thank you for the kind words and motivation I’ve dealt with some traumatic events that has split my family apart for years and I’ve been holding on to a grudge to that person that caused all this pain and heartache. It’s time to forgive and move on but never forget. Thank you again, all the aggression and anger I have towards them is not worth it and I need to let it go and live my life and live it to the fullest

    The reason why people don't share traumatic experiences with friends other than embarrassment is the baggage it holds. Think about it, you're unloading your baggage onto a friend who, most likely won't know what to do with said baggage or, you may not have any friends you can safely trust with that information because most of your friends are simply friends of convenience.
    If you're trying to get over a traumatic experience, seek professional help if you can afford it. Trying to get through it on your own is possible but, past traumatic experiences can subconsciously hold you back in life until you get to the root cause and deal with it.
    Stay safe out there folks.

    When I watched this episode back then as a kid
    I actually thought that *Fred is a nice guy,* other characters act nice but is actually evil. Meanwhile Fred looks evil but never did anything evil to Courage or anyone in the Household.
    Its just that his obsession for hair makes him look evil.

You see courage episodes schedule in CN here in my country is 6-7 in the morning where I always wake up before going to school. I always feel sleepy after waking up so my mom decided to make me watch cartoons and guess what I enjoyed courage episodes and even help me remove the sleepiness. I don't know if I still dont understand adult humour but as a cartoon it entertained me maybe because its unique and different than the cartoons back then but as of now every episodes that I watch makes sense now that I'm an adult.

    this show was more interesting than entertaining as a kid but smoking a joint n watching this show as an adult creeps u out now that u somehow can notice the narrative more better and its scary if they was to make these episodes into a horror movie that would almost seem realistic. this show is based off horror flicks btw but as an adult u can kinda imagine how terrifying it would be with acting. this is why courage the cowardly dog show stay one of my favorite shows till this day, it's so unique and mature but i wouldn't recommend my children to watch this until their old enough. still i give this show 5 out of 5*'s, especially freaky fred and his poem 👍
