    Loving this technique!!! Thanks for sharing!!!❤ (I have heard that the top contrast color should be a flat or matte paint, and not a semi or gloss. Cracks apparently come about much clearer and precise)

    Could you mix paint/pigment with the glue to give a coloured base coat and then apply latex paint? This way you might not need the glaze (?)!
    This could work maybe over stained wood.

    Thank you, I want to crackle paint a cigar box. Do you think it will be hard on the sides to crackle? The cigar box looks like mahogany on the inside and out but finished with a stain on the outside. Should I take off the stain first? Tfs, this is so helpful

    Why do you spray it before putting the antiquing glaze on? I’m working on a project now and want to use this method. Anything I can use in place of the sprayer is it even needed?

    Maybe if you put a couple drops of dye in the glue, the cracks would be darker? Or painting the wood before putting the glue? Some guys use nitrocellulose paint and once it's dry they use a heat-gun and then spray compressed air.

    Does it have to be hide glue? I’ve seen it done with regular school glue. Paint goes on while glue is tacky to the touch. Brush strokes should be limited.

    • @jeffhildreth9244
      @jeffhildreth9244 2 года назад

      Bottled hide glue is not hide glue.
      If you want to use glue for crackle.. regular old every day yellow carpenter's glue will work fine.

    I guess liquid hide glue is the only way this works. I've tried other glues with no results. I just ordered the hide glue because no one local carries it.

      You can use pva glue apply a flat base coat let dry apply thick coat of pva like paint speed dry with hair dryer then when it starts to form a skin paint over with a water based paint speed dry with hair dryer watch it crackle use more heat for bigger areas of crackle less heat for smaller

    will this work over an oil stain with an oil color varnish over it or will I need to use something other than liquid hide glue?

  • @KMauser98

    Does it have to be latex paint that goes over the glue or any kind of acrylic paint??

    Wood using a heat gun during the drying process exaggerate the cracks?

    I have rabbit skin glue and i've seen that create small cracks that look natural. I've heard you should NOT use a semi-gloss or gloss in this process because it won't crackle as well.

    • @jeffhildreth9244
      @jeffhildreth9244 2 года назад

      Rabbit glue is expensive and waste on this type of crackling. Use Titebond.
      Use flat or the next closest sheen.. no Gloss or semi gloss.

  • @novalolmanzero3

      I also would like to try this with acrylics craft paint, how long do you let the hideglue set before the next layer of acrylics? I tried 24h but it did not crackle well. Regards/Johan
