This video really highlights why we enjoy Stonemaier games - it's the little things outside of the game mechanisms (which are generally great anyway), such as packing and unpacking the game that are thought about . I think this really emphasises how much thought is put into how games are as an overall experience, and that the design team have a genuine love of game playing. Thanks so much - we are looking forward to playing Wingspan here soon.
I LOVE THIS GAME. Played it with a friend who is new to board games recently. She LOVED it(So did her daughters, 8 & 10). My wife and I immediately bought her a copy as a gift and she's so excited. Just a beautiful, elegant, and refreshing game. Thank you for taking a chance on a new game designer. Excited to see what Elizabeth does next!
We are definitely loving this game!! And I really agree with you about the engine building systems and the power of the cards building as you go along. We only wish we could play longer, because we have so much fun!!!!
Great take. I think I’ll pick this up for my tween daughter’s birthday, since she both loves birds (has a cockatiel and enjoys birding) and tabletop games (especially games involving nature like Dominant Species, Spirits of the Wild, Evolution Climate/Flight).
I love when the lid and/or box also serves as a helpful functioning part of the game. Printing where everything goes on the side of the box is brilliant as well. Planning on doing my Stonemaier order in April! Picking up Wingspan, Between Two Castles, Scythe Encounter Cards, and Viticulture Moore Visitors and I'll once again have every Stonemaier product released. (Except the big Scythe box) That Fail Faster book looks really interesting too, I'll have to check that out. Thanks for another informative video Mr. Stegmaier!
I really appreciate the lid thing in the game making it so easy to access to the face up cards. The game flows well. The choices between how you set up your birds, do you go with the activated abilities, and where you put them, vs the cards that produce an instant effect, but will provide no other ongoing benefit, all make for interesting choices. Also, the balance near the end, where you have to decide at what point is better to stop deploying birds, because the eggs required to deploy them will reduce their scoring potential. In the last round of the 2nd game I played, I knew my last 2-3 actions would be to produce eggs, so my first couple actions were to get birds to maximize the egg row.
Plan to get my copy in May if I can find it, lol. But after watching several gameplay videos I feel like I already know it, and I really like what I see. I love ramping up actions in games, and I especially love the combo possibilities with all the bird abilities :) Before I learned anything about the game I have to admit I was sceptical about how interesting a bird game could be, but I'm definitely eagerly awaiting my chance to try it for myself now :)
Thanks for the video, Jamey! I love Wingspan, and I definitely agree with you about all the inventive mechanisms in the game. I've played the game with a few different groups, and everyone has really enjoyed it. It's one of my favourite games. And thanks for talking about the playtesting journal. That looks like a really interesting book, especially for a new designer like me.
Thank you for cooperating with Feuerland. I am so happy that your great games are available in German as well. Can’t wait for it to be released end of March. Keep up the great work 👍
I'm love your enthusiasm for your products. Definitely a quality product. Sadly so far I'm terrible at this game. Great game just the same 😊. Looking forward to an expansion already.
Congrats on the NYT article!! Great piece. The acknowledgement of a female designer by releasing on March 8 was also much appreciated and didn't go unnoticed.
Wingspan!!! My favorite game of last year (even though I didn't get to play it til December...) I like it, but liked it even better with the Euro birds. Adding in new objectives and the blue line of birds (once per round actions) was great. Can't wait for the Oceania expansion. Will the swallows from the African expansion be able to carry a coconut? :)
As a big Terraforming Mars fan I love the game. Great choices and theme (as an amateur wildlife photographer, I can attest that, like the game you never get to pick which birds will show up). The automa is really good as well - it has kicked my ass a few times. Thanks to Stonemaier , E. Hargreaves and the artists involved (Beth Sobel is a long time favorite).
I was fortunate enough to get a copy this weekend. I smiled instantly when I picked up the rulebook. It just felt great! What material is it? Vinyl maybe? I can’t wait to get my friends together to play our first game.
I haven't played Druids, but from what I've heard, if you like the weight and length of the original game, go with Druids. If you want to significantly increase the weight and length, go with Journeyman.
Hi Jamey, we've received the Dutch version of the game today (999 games). It looks absolutely stunning and the box has some substantial weight! We haven't played it yet but could it be that this version is missing the overview with the storage layout on the side of the box? That would be a pity! I have no clue how to organize it after unboxing now 😛 Well, it turns out that you have another video which was a tremendous help while organizing, thanks! ruclips.net/video/ZJd2lHcF6Hc/видео.html We can't wait to play it!
Sorry to ask this question here but I didn't know where else to ask. Is it true that Miniature Market didn't get copies of the game today because there weren't enough? I preorder from them and today they told me that I have to wait for the next print in April because they didn't get their copies. Sorry again.
John: Here's a detailed blog post to help answer this question (Miniature Market doesn't buy games directly from Stonemaier). stonemaiergames.com/wingspan-release-day-an-apology-and-an-explanation/
@@jameystegmaier when will you have more copies available? I am thinking of canceling my preorder since they didn't honored the deal. I di still want the game.

It's "the little things", no? ❤ So much love for details, just love your games! And YES, you didn't make enough of these beauties but what better way of spending that waiting period than playing 'my little sythe' with my boys! Peace ☺
@@jameystegmaier 😄Your hands do the correct thing. 1:35 and 1:56. 👍 Thanks for the great games! My quarantine pod just finished Charterstone a few weeks ago and had a great time.
@@dinahfromkabalor Thank you! I'll go in and add some notes. :) Oh, and I'm glad you enjoyed Charterstone! My group started a 5-player campaign over a year ago...and it's been sitting in my gaming table ever since, waiting for us to get back together for game 7. :)
Hey David. I feel that comment was unkind. I'm sure it would be hard to find a project (game, book, graphic novel, etc.) that made it into print without a few mistakes. To focus on those few mistakes instead of the wonderful game and gameplay I feel misses the point.
@@canadacomposer Much more than a few. I believe it's over 20. Though I don't read them, do you know of a graphic novel with that many errors? Regardless, it is a great game.
You're correct, it's 27, although some are merely the same error repeated (an extra "e" in "between", for example). I don't know about a graphic novel, but I've certainly read books with a noticeable number of grammatical or spelling errors in them. I simply feel that the response to this issue has been out of proportion to the actual errors. I do agree with you that it's a great game!
Two years later and Wingspan has taken over the world! My favorite game of all time without question! 🦅

It's a special paperstock offered by our manufacturer. :) We also use it in Between Two Castles of Mad King Ludwig.
I think a scoring board (maybe could have been integrated with the goal round board) would've been nice for the final scoring
3:55 giving choices without 'bird-ening' the players :D
I'm gonna get it today :D
I am so excited for this game - I am going to run to my game store and hope they are not sold out!!!!
Can I ask a question? Should I buy Druids or Journeyman for Isle of Skye? Or you recommend both.
