    Excellent video Matt. Some very good hacks and ideas for those that are new to hammock camping and also for experienced hangers as well. BTW SRO is running a combo special for this tarp and hammock right now (08/25/2023) for US$69.99., so now would be a great time to for a person to invest in these two pieces of kit. I'd really like to see a video of how you personally setup and configure your top and under quilts for this system. We all have our own systems and setups, but one can usually always pickup a new hack or two to add to the tool kit from other experienced hangers. Thanks for the video Matt and for sharing your thoughts, ideas and experience with us.

    First couple nights in a hammock is an adjustment to your body. The swing and calf ridge adjustments, and then you will LOVE it. Give it a few nights before you decide

    Good to see a new video. I have been checking regularly to make sure I did not miss one. I love sleeping in a hammock even with my 74 year old construction worker back. I am heavy so I use the Warbonnet XLC with the Superfly tarp. Over priced for some not sure if that is the direction thy wish to continue with but perfect for those heavier worn out bodies. Keep up the good work.

      Thank you so much for your time and interest to tune in my friend! My body has also been through the ringer a bit and hammock camping has been a blessing these past years allowing me to get good rest while outdoors. The Warbonnet is a top choice hammock for sure. I have a Hammock Gear Bugnet model that I believe is quite similar. They are and investment but so comfortable. Thanks again for watching and commenting!

    • @blackhatbushcraft
      @blackhatbushcraft  3 года назад +1

      Absolutely! I too have had that problem many times. You have the perfect hang and then in the night wake up just a little too low to the ground. I don't want my underquilt to drag the ground and if a hammock gets too low, it is hard to stand up. I hope that tip will serve you well! Take care.

    I have been on the edge with the decision for a long time about getting off the ground.
    The years are getting harder on the ground for me and I do believe in many of the Pathfinder products.

      Thank you so much Thorvald! I know getting up off the ground sure has helped me as my back ages. I don't mind traditional ground camping on occasion but for multiple nights in the field, I always opt for a hammock if possible. Thank you for your time interest and support!

    Nice to see you Matt! Hope things have been well. Good instructions on basic Hammock camping. That"s a nice hammock, I wonder if I can justify a 8th one. That is a very nice basic/beginner piece of gear. I am like you and like a larger tarp. Nice see you pop up on the feed. Hope it happens again real soon. Yep , take it step further and show how a beginner can improve on this. Lol ,a pathfinder under quilt / over quilt ?

      Thank you so much my friend! I appreciate your kind words and support! There is always room for just one more lol! I have to stop telling myself this I think 😀 I hope to revisit this topic in cooler weather to show how to fortify the hammock in the Fall. I don't know if a PF under/over quilt is in the plans honestly but that would be interesting to see! Thank you for your time, interest and support! Take care.

    Great video Matt long time no see. My daughter is turning 12 this summer and wants to go camping a bunch. I'm a poncho and woobie guy she has a 7 person tent that I'm not humping in the woods with the rest of my gear. Maybe a couple of hammocks is the answer. Thanks for the info

      Hi Eric and I think it is AWESOME that your daughter wants to camp with you! Daddy/daughter time is the best! I think the hammock would be a great solution. I know it would be much easier to carry :) Definitely keep the woobie with you in the hammock as well! Happy camping to you and your daughter Eric!

    Awesome video, so glad you included tips! I’ve never set up or slept in a hammock but always wanted to, I’m unclear about the knot you used to hang the tarp though I think you called it a rope tackle? Is this the same as a truckers hitch? Thanks for all the time you put into your videos, I always learn so much!

    What is the recommended size of tarp for an A frame setup with the hammock?

    • @blackhatbushcraft
      @blackhatbushcraft  3 года назад +1

      You could pull it off with a 10x10. I say that because being an 11 ft hammock, it will be sagging and and therefor not stretched to the full 11ft length when hanging. I have used a 10x10 for years with no issue even in bad weather. I have switched to a Hammock Gear Journey tarp which is made for my hammock and has door flap that can be opened or closed up to seal out weather. It gives you that A frame style shelter above.

      Thank you so much. The one that I absolutely enjoy the most is my 0 degree incubator made by Hammock Gear. That and the burrow over quilt are two amazing pieces of gear that cost me a bit but they have given me many great nights of sleep in the woods.

      @@blackhatbushcraft sounds good. Ya i hammocked for about 11 yrs until a little while ago when my higher power said “ok”, no more drinkin! After I stopped almost 3 yrs ago i found I couldn’t get comfortable in a hammock enough to actually sleep in the darn thing all night. Granted, I use a pad in there and not underquilts. Maybe if i used an underquilt instead of a ridge rest in there it might be a different story. Problem is… I can’t afford an underquilt. They’re so darn expensive. Do you or anyone else know of a cheaper but I’m sure heavy underquilt? Thanks again Matt for takin the time.

    I'm curious if you happen to have tried out one of those hammock tents yet. They're great for summer camping with the bug net and custom rainfly already integrated but I've yet to get a good night sleep in one in the winter. I just can't get an underquilt to sit right and a camp mat and sleeping bag don't quite cut it down around freezing temps.

    I'm homeless and after having my stuff stolen and vandalized I chose a quality hammock with a net. I sleep great and I get up in the am, break camp and carry my home with me. This guy said everything that I've experienced and now I'm gonna get a pathfinder of my own for a spare.

    What would be the Top 3 available lightweight hammocks with excellent mosquito nets on the market (without tarp) considering user-friendliness & durability as a must . . .
    Price is of second importance

      Honestly James, I have some very persistent back issues and hammock camping is the most comfortable option for me these days. I honestly wake up in the hammock feeling better than I do from my bed at home. I can get a perfect angle and support in all the right places with my hammock. It may actually be a good solution for you but I also know that it is an individual thing. I hope you at least get a chance to try it sometime! Take care my friend.

    • @blackhatbushcraft
      @blackhatbushcraft  3 года назад

      That is an interesting one Brent. I haven't had that problem before but I am guessing they come down your straps? If so, could you treat your straps with a bug repellant to deter them? I am curious how that would work. Thank you so much for tuning in and sharing a kind word!
