"K" is actually special. The audience is tricked into thinking K is some extraordinary hero who's going to be there to save the day. But he isn't even a hero at all. There is nothing special about him. He's ordinary. But because there is nothing special about him it makes him special, it makes him stand out in a cruel and dystopian world.
This is the same ending as the original ending of blade runner BUT with out words..... your mind filled in the dialogue .
To realize that the one you thought truly loved you was actually programmed to imitate love.
The scene when he encountered the giant hologram says it all.

There is a billboard in one scene that shows Joi and it reads "everything you want to hear" if I remember correctly. I interpreted it as her just being programed to say everything the consumer wants to hear, whether it be real or not.

I think he knew all along... That's probly the same ad he saw when he purchased joi but he knew he lost HIS joi. Altho the ad called him a "good joe" which was sad cuz Joe was the name joi gave K when they thought he might've been born

@@darkraid4238 pero al final no murió por la causa "falsa", murió haciendo lo que creía correcto. Recuerda que los replicantes rebeldes le dijeron que mate a Deckard. Al final hizo lo más humano que uno puede hacer, elegir.

A él no le intereso la causa.. durante toda la peli quiso reencontrase con su papá.. ese fue el sentimiento que quiso hacer sentir a la hija verdadera

Well, actually he's not sad at all. He realised his journey is over and he gave his life for the right reason. Now, realising his life WAS actually meaningful, he dies in peace with himself.
