How does a 5 year old know pitch so well??? Impressive! I have no idea what pitch is about, until this video. Unbelievable talent, to be able to distinguish the right pitch.
perfect pitch is actually easily acquired through the first few years of life if nourished. Many people lose it overtime if no practice and they get into relative pitch.
Some people are born with it some people can acquire it. But being born with it is a real talent. Even professional singers can sing off key at times when they can’t hear themselves well.
Wow!! As a music teacher I can tell you not only is perfect pitch rare, but to be able to sing in perfect pitch is exceedingly rare. I wondered for a long time if she had perfect pitch. Kathy Shelley seeing colors associated with a note is called tone-color synesthesia. Makes the world of music more beautiful. 💕 Claire could be synesthestic. Wouldn't be surprised. Most people don't know they are until they stumble upon it.
I have synesthesia and perfect pitch too. I wouldn't be surprised either if Claire has it. The tricky thing about synesthesia is describing it with words to people who don't have it. It can come off as sounding crazy sometimes, which for me already being a quiet person means I haven't told many people about it and sometimes it can be a lonely gift. But there are tests for synesthesia as well as perfect pitch that you can take if you want "proof", even just to prove it to yourself.
The fact that she even understands the concept of pitch.... and that even though you are singing in a different octave she can still tell. She even got the wah wah wah on pitch LOL. You should test her memory, I can't even remember lyrics or melodies, forget about the right pitch! Thanks for another great video!

I thought it was really interesting how she described your pitch as being 'one block too high' as it gives an insight as to her conceptual understanding of music. I wonder whether she would be able to transpose a song if you asked her to sing a song 'one block higher/lower' but didn't give her the backing music first? Might be a cool experiment?
no, she won't be,or I'm not really that sure, check out physic girl's video about perfect pitch. this one guy has perfect pitch, and he can't play the one block higher note on keyboard, lol.... check it out!
@@ronaldfrank1442 True, but that is because when playing that piano after it was re-tuned he still saw and pressed the same keys on the piano he always did. Basically, for instance, he saw the key E on the epiano and when he pressed it he expected to hear the note E (which is what usually happens when he presses the key E) and, thus, was confused when it didn't sound like what he'd expected to hear. So he wasn't transposing the piece, he was playing it using the same keys on the keyboard, it was just the keyboard that was tuned to a different key. This actually makes a big diference. Maybe try to imagine it like this: If you came into a dark room and pressed the light switch, you'd expect a normal, yellowish-white light to turn on, right? But if, instead, there was ... let's say red light all around, it would throw you off and distract you for a moment because you'd be wondering about why something isn't the way it usually is - and the way it is supposed to be - and therefore, for your brain, it would feel wrong. This is also the reason why many musicians with perfect pitch have no trouble transposing music by ear but have lots of trouble transposing while sight-reading or have trouble playing Eb- or Bb-Instruments: Because they see one note on their sheets and, by seeing it, already have an expectation as to what it will sound like, but then, when the play it, the sound they hear is a different one from the one they'd expected and already heard in their mind, which, again, seems unexpected, wrong and confusing to them. Also, many musicians with perfect pitch tend to focus less on the relationships BETWEEN the notes, thus the intervals and relative pitch, and more the notes themselves (excluded from one another), which it why it keeps throwing them off and why it happens more easily that they play wrong intervals while sight-reading. There's different kinds of musicians with perfect pitch, however: To some, transposing comes very easily, almost naturally, to others, it just feels wrong and confusing, because each pitch or key also has a distinct feeling (or personality, if you like) and playing a piece in a different key changes not only how high or low it sounds but also the overall characteristics of the piece and. It is as if fire was suddenly cold and ice warm. You automatically connect the concept of "ice" wih the concept of "cold" in your brain, so if you were to touch a block of ice, you'd expect it to feel cold and it wouldn't at all feel like ice to you if it was warm instead, even if the texture and the shape and the look and everything else stayed exactly the same. Likewise, a piece in a different key would feel completely different and maybe even weird or wrong to a musician with perfect pitch, even though everything else (the intervalls, chords, harmonics, etc). stayed exactly the same. Sorry for the long text ... At least I hope I could help explaining that a bit better ...

Technically perfect pitch is identifying a note by the letter name...but since she is young and may not know the notes by letter after or how to read music this is also concrete proof of perfect pitch in my estimation. In time she will learn it. I hope sincerely that her perfect person pitch will be merciful that is that she will not be miserable everytime she hears something out of tune. I used to work with people who had dementia and there was a music teacher I became friends with in that job. She lost so much to her dementia but you could plunk her down in front of a piano and she could play anything. A thing I thought was weird was that she couldn't always remember song titles but if I sang or hummed part of the song for her she could almost always pick up what I sang to her and often!!! She could come in on the same key that I was singing? While my pitch is pretty good I don't think it is perfect....that is I dont think I gave her the correct key every time but there she was jumping in on the piano on key with my singing. Any thoughts on whAt that means?
What's even more impressive is that she can tell he's off even though he's an octave down, and she can pick out the key even after hearing his WRONG note first! That would mess most people up!
She obviously has perfect pitch. A person with perfect pitch is able to hear the correct chromatic note, regardless of which octave the note is sung/played in. People with this special ability hear songs very differently than normal people. Normal people hear the song and think it is cute, they hear the song and are able to hear the exact notes.
3:53 it's cute to hear her struggle how to describe an "octave" before she knows proper termininology. Like I know you've started teaching her more about fundamentals, but it's just cute to see her know that it's the same note, but "not quite"
Perfect pitch or absolute pitch is a rare phenomenon and Claire definitely has it - I've noticed this before in previous videos - she will start to sing a song in the correct key without having had any previous pitch reference. It's not something you can acquire, it's something that you are born with. People often confuse perfect pitch with being 'pitch perfect'. Claire is always pitch perfect as well - but this only means that she's always in tune when she sings. It's endearing, that since she is so young, she doesn't yet realise that having perfect pitch is not normal. She thinks that she's only able to pitch correctly, without reference, because she's heard a song so many times before.
I've found it's pretty common in todays kids. with music/media readily available, and high quality, they are exposed to all kinds of music very early. They imitate what they hear without any notion of good or bad.
Okay, having perfect pitch is pretty rare and incredible and Claire is very talented. I'm so jealous I don't have it. But what I liked the most is that she wanted to convince her dad he won, even though he got so many wrong guesses. Great attitude girl! You're a little star!
MarsLos10 the perfect pitch they described in the video isn’t exactly the musical dictionary definition of perfect pitch. she still was flat at times, but she’ll be better as she grows and perfect pitch is entirely up to how she can name pitches from a piano or pitch pipe
Ryley Douglass I guess she eventually will learn the names of the pitches and as she grows up she will develop her gift more and more, to the point where she will be as Dylan Beato (check him out), or if she doesn't care about pitches' names, she can still hear a note and say "that's how this song starts".
I took my 8 year old autistic son to Suzuki piano lessons as part of a therapy program. The piano teacher called me on that first day to tell me he had perfect pitch. It was very easy for him to learn music.
Claire is perfect! Her pitch is perfect and the relationship you have..perfection. :) I reacted to this. showing love and also congrats on 1m subs!!!!!
This is an amazing and ingenious way to test for perfect pitch!! It’s great because it can be done super early on in musical development (as seen obviously) and it requires little to no prior knowledge of any kind of music theory!! As stated around 2:55 Claire was able to recognize that her dad was sharp (and by how much - a whole step) before she had even learned the music theory and the vocabulary to articulate what she meant. And even though she was able to accurately sing each song in the correct key to prove herself, in theory this test could even be given to someone who might not even have the vocal dexterity or know-how to correctly articulate the right key - they could still recognize it as right or wrong even if they can’t physically sing the other, correct version.
That's how perfect pitch works. Sound is a spectrum and repeats itself every octave. To us, any A or E or whatever will always sound like an A or E in any octave.
@@drewcollier1138 i think it maybe the otherwise, perfect pitch allows someone to distinguish every single note, every note uniquely registered on the brain by its own, an E4 will always sound like an E4, and so for other notes. But i didn't mean to say that Claire isn't perfect pitch, i think she naturally understand the nature of octaves, and she explained to her father from that understanding. Sorry for my bad English :p We all love you Claire :D
OMG!!! I play various instruments from violin to bagpipes, guitar etc and think I have a decent ear for pitch. I’m 50 though. I can tune my guitar within a flat note but only after more than 30 yrs. This is UNREAL. She has the gift of perfect pitch. What an absolute joy to watch. ✌️

@@blakes1006 Ya looks like... But her voice pitch and talent is really admirable that too at this early age.. Inborn talent plus right parents, right environment to grow in the talent she is born with..
Ok, I definitely can’t sing or hear pitch. I had zero clue what Claire was correcting or trying to perfect. It all sounded great to me, I couldn’t tell you were off at all. Lol! A 5 year old wins! Wha, wha, wha, wha!!!!
I'm a private voice and piano teacher and I have to say your daughter has an ABSOLUTELY darling little voice. I will say though, what she has is excellent pitch MEMORY rather than perfect pitch. I have good pitch memory myself, but when I have a cold or stuffy/swollen sinuses, sometimes I'm a little flat in my intonation.... It would be interesting to find out if Claire(?) has the same issue. I like this game!! I need to try this out with my voice students!!! Blessings!
I agree. Claire clearly has excellent pitch memory, being able to know whether what her dad is singing is at the same pitch or same relative pitch to what she has heard before and being able to reproduce what she has heard at the proper pitch. She probably also has perfect pitch; but that would be shown in a bit more sophisticated way, based on naming a pitch which then she produces accurately without having heard it prior to that, or showing her a piece of music that she then sings at the proper pitch without aural prompting from another singer or an instrument. It's certainly a talent worth cultivating; though, as at least one responder indicated, it can drive both the recipient of that talent as well as others somewhat crazy. For example, I know some who have perfect pitch who, when they are reading music in one key but hearing it performed in another, simply go bonkers at the difference and cannot listen for long to the series of "wrong notes" being performed. They either stop listening or stop looking at the music.
Yes. That video comes much closer to showing she has perfect pitch. I didn't doubt she had that faculty, only questioned whether that game showed that she did. I don't have perfect pitch; but there are certain musical pieces, the melodies of which I can begin humming; and upon playing a recording of the piece, I discover that I had hummed it beginning at the correct pitch. With most pieces with which I'm familiar, I can't do that - only with some, and always only the same pieces. Somehow, my brain has registered the pitches of those pieces indelibly in my memory, and I can bring them to mind whenever I wish. Claire is very gifted. I hope she finds a way to make good use of those particular gifts.
Serenity Moon she memorized them by how she was taught them. You can sing any song in a different key and have perfect pitch. I don’t feel this was showing perfect pitch at all and was her ability to memorize what she learned. There’s a difference. I do not think Claire has perfect pitch.
I thought perfect pitch was knowing what a note was just by hearing it? I certainly don’t have perfect pitch, but I can recreate noises I hear. Then again idk lmao
honestly I think she should try going for the gameshow "Sing On" on Netflix, where singers have to sing as close to the original singer's pitch. she would win !!
For anyone who may be wondering, perfect pitch is NOT the ability to sing perfectly on key. You may be able to do that but that doesn’t mean you have perfect pitch. Perfect pitch is the ability to name what key a song is being played/sung in and also to be able to name individual notes and chords by ear. This is speaking from my experience as someone who has it. I cannot sing perfectly on key but I do have perfect pitch!
PianoDiva24 perfect pitch is actually defined as the ability to recognize or reproduce any pitch heard. It's also sometimes referred to as absolute pitch. One does not need to have every chord/note memorized or be able to name them to have perfect pitch. One also does not need to be able to reproduce pitches perfectly. So long as one can do either or both of these things it is considered perfect (or absolute) pitch.
I agree with the bradbrad reply. You can be able to reproduce and identify pitches by sound, but you might not be able to name that something is in E major or that the note I’m playing is a Bb/A# if you haven’t learned Western music notation.
PianoDiva24 yessss finally someone understands the concept of perfect pitch! i have perfect pitch and it is entirely based on the ability to sightread. and even the amazing little claire is still a little sharp or flat of some notes but she’ll become better as she matures
According to statistics 1 in 10,000 have absolute (perfect) pitch. I have perfect pitch and because I am an adult and trained musician I can tell you the note name of any note played. When I remember the pitch of any song it tends to be that I mentally made a note of the name of the key that I identified the last time I heard it. Then I use that knowledge to recall the correct pitch. What is amazing about this girl is that she remembers the pitch without having the technical knowledge to explain it. That is phenomenal memory. That is what amazes me the most as well as having perfect pitch. (She also has a lovely voice and seems like a lovely girl and has a great relationship with her dad.)
Amy Chidley My nephew remembers every song in the exact pitch too. I can even play a B Major chord and tell him to sing a song I know is in F Major and he does it without blinking. He has no musical training. Very mysterious to me. My brain doesn't remember songs in original keys. It usually transposed to whatever key I'm currently in how high I feel like singing.
It is easy to see that Claire is *really* into music. Does she plan on learning an instrument when she is older? I think she would totally pick up gutair or a stringed instrument. But don't rush her into doing instruments, kids typically stick with something when they pick it. You Crosbys are doing a great job because I can tell that Clarie chooses to sing and make music.
Love you so much Claire! I'm a cancer patient and I spent a lot of my time in bed. Your videos makes me so happy I always end up smiling. You and your family are so precious ❤
That was fun to watch & absolutely remarkable. As much as I feel I know about music, I could never even come close to anticipating a key before a song begins like little Claire. She & her family are so blessed.
I don’t have perfect pitch but I have pretty good relative pitch. The only reason I can produce a pitch from memory is by remembering it through songs so 😂
I'm guessing Claire also just has really good relative pitch because she's basically just memorized the melodies of the songs. It's incredibly rare to find someone who actually has perfect pitch.
Absolutely incredible!!!! I admire how you are raising your children to be absolutely adorable... so so cute she wanted you to both win !!!💜💚💜💚💜💚💜💚💜💚💜💚. Both have beautiful voices 💕💙💕💙
Rewatching is still so fun. But then I got to fight for your loss, daddy crosbey. The song you chose, were female's pitch. If you haven't heard the song in a long time, you will unconsciously lower the pitch. So basically that wasn't a fair fight, but Claire dominated the pitch of all songs like a queen. One word, talented.

3:53 it's cute to hear her struggle how to describe an "octave" before she knows proper termininology. Like I know you've started teaching her more about fundamentals, but it's just cute to see her know that it's the same note, but "not quite"
She knows what she's talking about. Perfect pitch. Dad is a stellar parent to an exceptionally bright 5 yr old.
Dan Air how do you know if someone has it. I think my friend might have it and I'm really jealous 😆
Just test your friend the same way Dave tested Claire, using songs he/she is familiar with.
Dan Air okay thank you so much!
Hello fellow hamiltrash
@@MarsLos10 Dylan is a freak of nature!!!!!
I took my 8 year old autistic son to Suzuki piano lessons as part of a therapy program. The piano teacher called me on that first day to tell me he had perfect pitch. It was very easy for him to learn music.

I'm so surprised she even knows when her dad is off when he is singing it in another octave 😱
Sorry for my bad English :p
We all love you Claire :D
@@psyrvn I can tell the notes are different I just don't know the octave numbers because I didn't take piano 😂

Blessings!
Deliseo Studio Check out his new video- she has perfect pitch as well as amazing relative pitch!
@@xnlover Have you seen the other video of her where she shows her perfect pitch? :)
@@xnlover Ah Ok, yes I totally agree that this video does not show perfect pitch! Yes, she is a very talented little one!

I struggle with pitches
In this video I can tell the difference after hearing each one but I can never tell straight off.
Serenity Moon me too.. i cant
Serenity Moon she memorized them by how she was taught them. You can sing any song in a different key and have perfect pitch. I don’t feel this was showing perfect pitch at all and was her ability to memorize what she learned. There’s a difference. I do not think Claire has perfect pitch.
Chronically Cassidy You're dumb
I thought perfect pitch was knowing what a note was just by hearing it? I certainly don’t have perfect pitch, but I can recreate noises I hear. Then again idk lmao

I got goosebumps when she sang Moana!
honestly I think she should try going for the gameshow "Sing On" on Netflix, where singers have to sing as close to the original singer's pitch. she would win !!
Pamela Mason true. Though if you have taken music lessons, then a staple of having perfect pitch is the ability to name keys and notes by ear.
PianoDiva24 yessss finally someone understands the concept of perfect pitch! i have perfect pitch and it is entirely based on the ability to sightread. and even the amazing little claire is still a little sharp or flat of some notes but she’ll become better as she matures
Why the hell would you sing off key if you can tell that you’re singing off key

I love seeing a young girl being raised with such confidence!
She's totally adorable and kind hearted spirit… Wishing a bright, healthy, and prosperous future for your daughter and the whole family. Great video.

She is already learning to play the ukulele.

Hannah Aberin ayyyy me too. No pitch pipes are needed here
I'm guessing Claire also just has really good relative pitch because she's basically just memorized the melodies of the songs. It's incredibly rare to find someone who actually has perfect pitch.
