I nearly bought the taurus g3 for my first handgun and possible EDC, I'm glad I took a step back and got the refund before I got too far into the wait... Then not even a week later proceeded to impulse buy the SAR9X from a local shop with the reason being I've never seen such a sexy handgun in my life that also managed to squeeze into my budget so narrowly and I knew nothing about it aside from the nato tests described in the product description. I've learned a helluva lot about it in the few months I've owned it (one or two highly useful nuggets of knowledge came from stumbling upon your channel actually) and getting time with it at the range, I absolutely adore this firearm and really don't understand the hate I've seen splashed here and there. It's a suped up gunfighters Glock with a comfortable grip for less from a state of the art factory. I'm probably the odd man out when I say this but I am a fan of the thumb safety as a thumb rest when in use because it totally brings me back to when I had a thing for 1911's. I just felt like putting that out there after seeing the comparison, I definitely feel like I made a great choice!
@@DCopp I actually enjoy having a thumb safety, it's very natural to me from using various 1911's as my sidearm for airsoft over the years, I love using it as a thumb shelf to get a better grip. Maybe in the future I'll give it a shot, it does make me curious haha
I am with you I been around guns since I was a kid my real father owned many different German guns from ww2 very many rare Lugers and then my parents divorced and my stepdad had many different pistols I bought the very basic Sar 9 B and like you I find the gun very well made the only thing I did not care for was the sights not be able to adjust and the small dots
The SAR was designed so you can be able to shove the gun into someone without disabling the firearm, that’s why the front kinda locks a bit. Example at 6:15
Imteresting. But how often, and in what self-defense situations would a law abiding citizen ever need to "shove a gun into someone"? Maybe by spies in undercover arrests and by criminals in muggings and kidnappings.
Thanks for this. I own the G3. A female friend of mine owns the SAR9. What you said about the deeper grip on the SAR is true...it feels absolutely fabulous! Overall, I prefer the overall ergonomics, or should I say, my hands prefer the ergonomics of the G3 (ha!). The SAR is slightly heavier/heftier than the G3, solid, made to handle 115gr and above. Taurus recommends up to 115gr for the G3. So, yes, there is a difference in quality in that regard. Depending on one's stature, G3 might be somewhat easier to conceal. On the range, both are sweet! Speaking from experience, can't go wrong with either one. Get both of 'em! And like one other reader mentioned regarding the thumb safety, my friend and I prefer that as well. Thanks again for a great post, and for the idea about painting the sights. Be well!
I have a sar9 I use a 90gr fluted round made from Underwood this round is not +p but it's still moving at 1400 fps and muzzle energy of 392 and it runs flawlessly and really light recoil so it not that the sar9 needs gr 115 and above it's how fast the round is moving and how mutch energy is going to produce but also use +p +p+ really hot rounds without a hiccup and sar9 being a bit heavier lot less recoil I have owned the Taurus g2c and g3 g3c and you can use a higher gr like124gr or 154 I just wouldn't feed it to mutch +p ammo
I prefer the sar. Much better quality gun. Got mine for $288 shipped. Taurus does make a good product but it was a no brainer here. No one can say the G3 is made better than the Sar9. I have the G2c for my carry.
@@drewloutz they're both great guns I would recommend both of them I wouldn't put one over the other it's just your preference. Like I said I own both of them but I like the way the G3 feels in my hand a little better. And referencing someone's comment the Taurus is made just as good if not better than the SAR. Honestly the quality of the two are great and if treated well these guns will last a very long time.
Sorry man. Gun companies don't just send out parts for guns to people who ask. It is a liability issue. The SAR 9 is an incredible gun. More thoroughly tested and more thoroughly successful than any other NATO issued firearm. The recoil spring is 21 lbs. A comparable Glock is closer to 13. The reason is because this gun is designed to shoot 9x19 NATO ammunition. Hotter and heavier than budget 9mm 115gr ammo. It will break in just a bit with use and the SAR 9 will be flawless with any 9mm ammo you feed it. This focus on reliability in the manufacturing process is also why those springs seem heavy. Testing to over 90,000 rounds is a damn tough test and the SAR is the ONLY firearm that was able to complete the test succesfully.
@@DCopp HAHA you can argue if you want, but gun companies are very particular about sending parts out willy nilly. If there is an established relationship, especially with current Dealer customers, especially for established gunsmiths, they relax a little. I suspect you may fall into the latter category as fewer and fewer people these days are capable of machining parts like you have. For replacement parts that don't require fitting, the issue is almost non-existent. But, if the parts specifically affect or could affect the safe operation of the firearm, the manufacturer almost always asks for the gun to be sent in. This is how they can ensure all parts and pieces are good, within spec and safe. Triggers and safeties definitely fall in this category. Mags, sights and grip panels do not. Also, this gives them a chance to look for other monkey business that people do to firearms in attempts to make the gun perform to some metric only the user understands. Having said all that, great review. I look forward to your shooting review.
