Just a general question. I have had an F2 and recently purchased an F 1967 release. The shutter lever on the F is very stiff and also the film rewind knob compared to the F2. I sent it in for a CLA and it did not improve this condition. Still works fine. Have run a couple of rolls of film through it. Not a big deal will mostly use the F2. Just wanted an example of the original F. My Nikkormat which I purchased new in 1972 is and has always been buttery smooth. Passed it to my Grandson when I purchased the F2.
@@kencarnley7101 I have the same issue with my f, as yours it still works just fine. I believe it may have been damaged internally by a drop or a knock, meaning something is tight/bent internally that shouldn't be. Maybe something in that mechanism is simply worn beyond its useful lifespan. There may be a particular known cause if you look through the forums, with any luck it may be a part that's cheap and relatively easy to replace. Either way enjoy your great Nikon cameras!
@@ReidCuming-f4f I believe It would have been either the 50mm 1.4 S-C or the 50mm 2.0 S-C. However later in 1974 the S-C versions were replaced by the K versions which has rubber focusing rings.
I do like your videos. One question though: lens on the Nikon is 1:2 but the viewfinder setting is at 1:1,2. Sometimes has happened to me when I attached the lens "faster than thought".
You are very observant. I didn’t notice that. I remounted the lens and the viewfinder reads correctly. That’s why should should always check the window on the front of the finder after mounting a lens. Thank you.
I kind of prefer the older non-Apollo models more. (I have both). Not crazy about the fat plastic covered rewind lever. It just doesn't feel right compared the slick all-metal lever of old. As for the self timer, on one of my Apollos, the black plastic has partially broken off from the metal timer lever.
Hi Roi, The place I used in Philadelphia closed several years ago. So, I wouldn't recommend anyone I haven't used. Do a search on any of the Nikon forums. Sorry I couldn't help.
I have used Garry's Camera Repair in the past. Recently inquired about an F which is a recent purchase. He said he did not work on them as parts are no longer available. Informed him it was working just wanted the cla. He took it in. Search Garry's Camera Repair. You can reference my name.
@@juan-lopez1 Most parts are no longer available for these decades old cameras. You can buy a spare body for parts. I’ve done that with several Minoltas.
the timer lever on my 1968 F is so loose, I wonder if it will fall off, the flat cap bolt is gone. and I'd dislike the the F2 plastic tip film adv lever, cool bare metal for the win
Nikon never marketed them as such back in 1971-72. If they had, I would have gotten one, being an avaiation enthusiast since befor 1960...... What was, was that there where short notices in photomagazines that Nikon had "modified some cameras for NASA to use in space. Fire hazards was mentioned and special lubricants, since fire hazards was a big ussue after the module fire... There was no way anyone could get any of these cameras since they where reserved for NASA, and the only way they could escape was that somebody, astronauts or otherwise would be pilfering them. Altt the rest, is 45 years after the fact rumors and reinventions.
The Nikon F2 also had the shutter release button moved from the former location on the F which was towards the 'front' of the camera body back to the more usual location towards the 'back' side..a more convenient location. I have an 'F' with Ftn Photomic metering head..circa 1971. I had to get used to the shutter release location on my F as I'm used to the more usual location as on my other 35mm film SLR cameras. Be that as it may..the Nikon F is a wonderful photographic instrument I thoroughly enjoy using mine just got a roll of prints back I used my Nikkor 35-70mm f/3.3-4.5 AI zoom lens circa 1980's mounted on the F nice and sharp excellent color rendition and exposures I'd put it up against many newer cameras.
Great video. I appreciate your clear explanation.
@@ImperiousImages Thank you. I hope it is clear.
The Improvement I preferred most is the slit in the finder release collar. No more searching for anything pin-like to press the little button.
Great video. Love my F! 😊
Glad you like my video. The F is a great camera.

Not sure what could be wrong. Is it only when there is film in the camera? Or is the film advance lever stiff without film?
@Jules Vuotto's Photo Focus stiff without film. Again not a big deal. Thanks for the reply and your videos are excellent.

Do you know which original lens came on the ftn in 1974?

I like the three improvements over the older version
Apolo on 👍😉

I just bought one of these but the winder wont advance, im looking for a solution now. Thanks for your video.
Search for RUclips videos on repairing the Nikon F. Thanks for watching my video.
@@julesvuottosphotofocus4696 I'm doing that now, kind of seems you that you need to be a watchmaker to fix one but maybe I'll give it a try

I’ve never seen one fall off. But you should probably have it checked.

Fake marketing ploy by heartless, soulless resellers of refurbished camera bodies to know-nothing collector/resellers after a quick buck.
