- This lecture was given at the San Diego Vedanta Monastery on 6/9/2018.
Swami Sarvapriyananda is a celebrated lecturer, speaking to overflow crowds across the country and reaching millions of spiritual seekers through his videos. Swami is the Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York, since January 6, 2017.
Prior to this, he served as assistant minister of the Vedanta Society of Southern California. Swami joined the Ramakrishna Math and Mission in 1994 and received Sannyas in 2004.
Before being posted to the VSSC’s Hollywood Temple, Swami served as an acharya (teacher) of the monastic probationers’ training center at Belur Math. He has served the Ramakrishna Math and Mission in various capacities including being the Vice Principal of the Deoghar Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, Principal of the Shikshana Mandira Teacher Education College at Belur Math, and the first Registrar of the Vivekananda University at Belur Math.

I love this dude. So wierd that something radiates from him even thru the internet. And I’m so grateful that he posts on youtube and I have a chance to hear him (I’m from Romania)

I consider this one of his best. Second half I love the discussion about "God" as this has always been a big confusion for me and the story of Arguna asking to see God was sublime. And it is worth repeating Swami is an unbelievably gifted speaker and teacher. He stands there for an hour or evn two hours -- NO NOTES, not a false step, able to go off on tangents for amusing stories, etc. and NOT LOSE a beat getting back to precisely where he left off. His grasp of English is -- ha, Americans could only hope and wish to be on his level. And, finally, of course he is CREATING all these talks -- writing them, knowing them by heart and then delivering them in a compassionate, caring, relatable and interesting fashion. He will always take every listener along and leave no one behind without letting anyone become bored. He's one of the great speakers in America today on any topic. I hope Harvard doesn't steal him away permanently.

@@TeresaBeckett Oh, that is a very tough one as I've listened to hundreds of hours of his talks. The talks he gives at his home base NY Vedanta Society are always good as they are a regular group. Also the Q and A's he does there. Also when he teaches a text for that group, again because they are regulars. Least favorite would be those given for general audiences at a yoga retreat or something like that. He also has great ones from when he visits other Vedanta branches like Santa Barbara, Hollywood and San Diego. He has so many youtube channels I can't even keep track. I would say a good start would be the youtube channel for the Vedanta Society of New York, his home base. Oh, he also gives great talks to special groups in India as those are for the more advanced practitioners and scholars, Indian audiences. (not the ones he gives for school age kids -- that's something else, also in India). Happy hunting.

My profound thanks for this. I have PTSD- there is a lot of fear in my body that is resistant to moving along. To know that we are “That” loosens the bonds of fear. It is not that I was not safe in the past and need to claw my way to safety- if I am not the body and not the mind, I have always been safe and always will be safe! Hours and hours of specialized therapy could not produce this firm knowledge- but Vedanta did.
It is wonderful and freeing, isn’t it? The real “Good News!” 😊🙏

Once I heard in BBC channel, what's the sound of universe, when all planets or universe moving fast. It was exactly as if thousand people together chanting AUM.....They said it is the actual sound the satellites received.🙏🌳🐢

Is there any book written by swami ji ? I wish one day he will write at least one book with all of his knowledge, because whatever he says is easy to understand due to his great skill of explaining very difficult spiritual concepts in liquid manner.... Hari OM. Long live Sawami ji.

I have listened to a certain Ayurvedic doctor here on RUclips and he warns of chanting ohm alone. He seems honest and sincere to me. Can anyone clarify because I feel drawn to chant ohm during meditation but also have reservations about isolating myself more than already in American culture. Which is what he seemed to be saying would happen. I’m not sure.
Please seek a qualified spiritual teacher - the Ramakrishna Order has many. There are other traditions as well. But, I've never heard that chanting AUM (or Om) under any circumstances would be harmful.

I've heard it said that amen has similar sounds to om, but I don't know how amen or om really originated.
I listening your talk on Vedanta and i analysed ,I convinced also but still i do n't experienced as I infinity free will.
Yogendra Bhattarai it needs constant effort from moment to moment..... becoming concious of what he said by remind these things and dwelling in to them.
Yogendra ji keep following his videos he clarifies doubts that arise in our mind. You will definitely progress from believing u are brahman to knowing that u are brahman..,he is the most authentic guru🙏

Swamaji, I am a little confused on your explanation of gold / bracelet.
Bracelet need not be gold. It can be made of any metal; brass, titanium, etc.
Even threaded braided material can be bracelet.

In the Chandogya Upanishad there is a discussion of knowledge of the true nature of things:
“…as by knowing one lump of clay, all things made of clay are known, the difference being only in name and arising from speech, and the truth being that all are clay; as by knowing one nugget of gold, all things made of gold are known, the difference being only in name and arising from speech, and the truth being that all are gold - exactly so is that knowledge, by knowing which we know all.”
