The result really has squat to do with whether it’s a kukri or a bowie, and everything to do with the angle of the edge grind. That bowie had a much wider edge so it performs more like a axe, and thus fewer chops. The kukri is much thinner and bites deeper, but therefore doesn’t chunk away the same as a thicker edge. Swap the edge profiles on the blades, and the results will change to the kukri being more effective than the bowie.
I'm a big Khukuri fan myself and have several. I ordered them from Tora blades. They are custom true military reproductions. Check them out online it usually takes about 4 to 6 months to get one. I have a Mk1 and MK2 right now. They are definitely good choppers. Thanks for the nice review. 👍
That MTech 537 Kukri cost me $15 in December 2023 so I bought one for me and one for a friend. It's made of high impact rust resistant steel and holds an edge. In comparison, the Bowie costs $300, doesn't perform well, yet weighs a pound more than the 537. You choose: rich guy or survivor? The Bowie is going to cost alot to maintain and is best at chopping large chunks of bank account.

I like how you cut the guard on the tempsky bowie. I had that exact same mod made on mine.
That Svord is a bashing brute though. 😎
What would you prefer for self defense: bowie or kukri?
This test might have been more evenly matched if you had also used an Ontario Marine Bowie. More similar steels, weights and grinds.

Hey, no do-overs!
Where can I get my hands on that Bowie knife?
Obviously, you need to make some kind of machine that takes the exact same pressure on each stroke because you’re cheating
