Imagine all American quarterback, Jack, Mildred, playing on that 1972 Oklahoma team with that great defense they had that year

I remember OU having trouble with the turf that day.. The OU coaches show that week illustrated it by playing Roger Miller's "Can't Roller Skate in a Buffalo Herd" over top of the highlights. It showed the OU players slipping, sliding and helplessly falling down as Buffs went past them, around them and over them. It was good for a laugh to take away some of the pain anyway.

I still feel the pain…’71 ‘72 ‘73 …3 potential national championships within their grasp only to slip away…from ‘71 through ‘87, even though they won 3 chips…there were so many others left on the table…i loved the OU wishbone era…college football was never the same for me when that era ended…

This was the only game Oklahoma lost all season as they finished 11-1 and ranked #2 in the final AP poll after beating Penn St. in the Sugar Bowl. Colorado went 8-4 and finished ranked #16 in the final AP poll after losing the Gator Bowl to Auburn.

televised game where i was at the time (Tampa)…watched with my brother and a friend at my grandparents home…outcome still makes me barf all these years later…Colorado played like their lives depended on it…OU played like they were pre-destined to win…had Colorado played their entire schedule that way, they definitely wouldn’t have lost 4 games…oh well…

@@hammondegger603 Colorado wasn't good enough to play like that all year.

@@chuckwest7045 oh…I didn’t know that…they played their outlier game against OU…and OU played their outlier game against CU…either way it cost OU a natty…i still feel the sting…

@@hammondegger603 I understand what you're saying. Teams don't stay the same from week to week. OU just happened to catch Colorado on one of their best days....or one of OU's worst days.....or both.
You're probably right. That game may well have cost the Sooners a national title in 1972. USC went unbeaten so it's hard to say who the voters would've picked. But the Sooners would've had a strong argument.

@@chuckwest7045 spot on assessment Chuck…would have taken my chances with the voters coming off the ‘71 season…though USC was ranked #1 basically the entire season so maybe difficult to have jumped them…unfortunately, a moot point half a century, and change, later…
