    Completely dry the flowers in silica and use art resin i believe it cures at a cooler temp. and shouldn't take all the color out of the flowers.

    • @teresacain6976
      @teresacain6976 5 лет назад +13

      This one^ you need to dry them out

    • @notashroom
      @notashroom 5 лет назад +19

      Any resin is going to cure hot, but if the flowers are quick dried, they won't mind so much. Art Resin has great UV resistance, though, so it won't yellow over time like most resins and varnishes. Solarez and Super Sap are two other resins with extra strong resistance against yellowing, and they may be less expensive.

    • @lelanoel2246

      Definitely dry in silica gel first. The color will be set then.

    • @ikaruseijin01
      @ikaruseijin01 5 лет назад +7

      Silica gel you mean, which is a good desiccant. It would dry the flowers out rapidly and that should fix the colour. Once the flower is dry then the resin temperature and chemistry shouldn't affect it much.

      I totally agree 100%, flatten them, dry them in silica then try Art Resin. Btw, love your bottle planter, Shelley, I wasn’t completely sold until I saw it outside with the plant in it 💕

    Hello! Y’all need some flower drying silica sand! Dry out the flowers for a few weeks then use a resin and cover completely to seal them in the door. If you have a blow torch flame thrower thing lightly use it over the resin to pop the air bubbles.
    Congrats on the new lil baby!

  • @juleejames9977

      I was about to say the same thing. Save all the little bags that come in all kinds of thing to keep the moisture out and say do not eat. It's quicker to buy a jar but if you want to repurpose those bags are the same thing. I just found your channel today and watched 4 episodes, it's great.

    By the way, the silicone on the bottles will eventually dry up and the bottles will fall apart! I create yard art...and have tried different glues and I’ve found that Liquid nails or E6000 holds up MUCH better and doesn’t dry up in the sun!!! That baby crib is AWESOME❤️

    The flowers are Gerber daisies. To prevent the resin from reacting with the flowers they need a protectiv sealing. A simple way to do that is by covering the flowers and leaves with a layer of clear drying glue. Just add some water to the glue and mix evenly. Loved the Adams Family ref. I am so excited for you all. Grandma, Grandpa,Auntie and Uncle! Garret and Ellie the 2 of you are going to be great parents!

    Re keeping colour in flowers to put in the resin. You need to get the water out otherwise the resin will do funny things.
    Since drying the flowers tends to make them go brown and dull, the best way is to use silica gel.
    You bury the flowers in silica (you can use silica kitty litter) for a few days and then they’ll be dry but still colourful. I’ve never tried pressing the flowers flat before using the silica but it might work. (Although maybe not because in pressing them you crush the veins and all the liquid bits my mush and make them brown once the liquid is gone... 🤔)
    Could be worth a try to find out though.

    • @animeaunty

      Boo Strange
      What do u think about only drying them a bit more then sealing them with a hairspray kinda thing? N thin layers? Would they b protected from the chemical reaction of the epoxy?

    • @notashroom
      @notashroom 5 лет назад +3

      @@animeaunty No, because the color lost is caused by cooking flowers that still have a lot of moisture. Hairspray won't protect against that, but thoroughly drying the flowers first will.

      Yesss!!! Silica! This totally works! My dad and I use to do this together! I couldn’t remember what it was called until I read your comment and it all came back at once. The flowers kept 90% -95% of their color vibrancy. (At least my memory it was) my 10 year old self thought my dad was a magician when he pulled the flowers out of the sand-like silica and they still had their shape and color... though I don’t think the stuff he used was kitty litter. This was like 27 years ago. I could be insane, I don’t know 🤷‍♀️.

    Congratulations on the new addition to the homestead!! You ladies have some serious musical talent! As for the flowers, try drying them out in silica sand first, then once dry put a dab of glue on the door and add the flowers and then resin them. This 'should' retain their colour since their dried colour will be the final colour. Gerber Daisies are a fleshy flower so they will take longer to dry out. Can't wait to see the next try at it!

I’m so happy and excited for y’all and for the whole family...I can only imagine how excited Gary and Shelly are to be Grandparents! It’s the most wonderful thing in the world to be grandparents.

    Shelly I love your bottle pot you made, it turned out really great. 😊
    Then the flowers in the cabinet door Omgoodness I love it! I too was surprised that the flowers lost their color, because I have watched several resin artist make jewelry and other things with flowers but they didn’t lose their color.
    The artist also didn’t say anything about having to dry them out first...I’ve been thinking about making some things with resin and flowers, I would’ve been upset following one of those tutorials and have my flowers lose their color. Hopefully drying them first will do the trick.
    Thank y’all for sharing this amazing video filled with some amazing ideas. Y’all are so talented and truly make my Friday evenings end in the best way possible.

    You need to rapid-dry flowers to preserve their colour, moisture needs to be removed from anything organic before adding to resins, otherwise the epoxy just starts the decomp process. Rapid-drying preserves more colour in flowers than traditional drying does (done in books over months). You can dry them flat in a microwave in between 2 tiles or in a tub of silica gel. Good luck.

    Congrats to the expectant parents!!! The crib is sooooooo cool. I’m an awful guesser.I love all of you to bits. I have two single sons. Wish I could clone Ellie for them!! Love her! Compliments to Mom and Dad for their kids!!! Seeing y’all joyfully working together is a blessing to watch. Garen and Bryson could not be more impressive to me. Shae and Bree I respect your shoveling and grouting more than one can express. All y’all are Hardworking and handy where it counts. Love the sweet Bye at the end of the show by Bree. Truely Priceless. Proud of and for all of you. ❤️🇨🇱

    Love the song. Dry out the flowers. Resin hates moisture of any kind.

    Hi wonderful family, Congratulations Ellie & Garen on your upcoming arrival! I like the projects! That crib is a one of a kind treasure, for sure!!! My daughter has used Silica to dry flowers & it worked great. Loved the singing and the music. So fun! Take care & God Bless.

    resin has an exothermic reaction when it catalyses causing heat which will discolour the flowers
