  • Hi guys! In this video you will see how to install stone veneer on the fireplace. This project is a lot like putting a puzzle together. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
The notch used to apply mortar on the stone is 1/2 inch deep.
Used a regular dewalt grinder with a bigger blade for most of the cuts.
You will also need a level and a chalk line to keep the stone level.
And of coarse another set of hands will make the project go a lot quicker.
    ENJOY!

Great video! I am currently building a new house and want to do exactly what you did. Can you tell me where u got the stone veneer and maybe the stock number or what type/name? Would also like to know what kind of stone that is on the hearth if possible.

I am using heavier stone (not veneer), what backing do you recommend instead of drywall

Cement board would work, but if you already have drywall up I would recommend nailing the metal mesh over drywall and then skimming it with mortar.

Hello, what did you use for the hearthstone?

I had always thought the method was apply mortar with a 1/2" x 1/2" square notch trowel to the wall, then a thin back butter on the stone panels. Whereas you only did the notch trowel to the stone panels. Seems simpler!

All the small gaps where you put the wedges don't matter? seems like they would stand out?

The stone already has gaps the way it comes from the manufacturer, so once it is all done the gaps are not noticeable at all. Thanks for commenting Bill.

At the very beginning you put something down on the hearth. What was it and why did you do it.

This particular hearth wasn't level with the sidewalls, so we added a layer of mortar to level it out.

Is the drywall strong enough to hold the granite? How come you don’t use cement backer boards?

    • @day2daydiy124

Yes, the drywall is strong enough to hold any veneer stone like this one.

Will the thinset/mastic damage the drywall if you ever remove the stone?

    • @day2daydiy124

Yes, you would have to scrape the mortar and skim the wall to get it ready for paint.

If you're putting stone veneer over drywall, you're doing it wrong.

Ya que no explicas ,hubiese sido mejor un video mas lento para ver el trabajo de las esquinas y así poder ver bien los detalles
