Loved seeing Norwegian Wood being played up close on camera. You played it very well. I own the DJr and it is a lovely guitar. You cant beat a solid wood Martin!
D Jr. E is reduced to approximately 15/16” of the full Martin 14-fret Dreadnought . I've played both. I own a full size Martin. The sheeran looks, feels, and sounds quite toy like. The jr is much, much, nicer in my opinion and it plays better than any other shorter scale I've played. The audio here does not provide a realistic reproduction of either. Go play them at a shop!
Hi. I had a DJR-10 but didn’t really ply it too much as I have D-18 and a custom 000. It was nicer sofa guitar versus the dreadnought. I was looking at maybe getting a ukelele for fun but that progressed into maybe getting an LX1, again just for fun, but when you said it looks and feels like a Toy it has me thinking maybe this is a bad move. Is it not a decent guitar to sit on the sofa and strum?
Great review and comparison. Hmm. I'm not going to say one sounds better. It really depends on what you are doing with them and what sound you are after. Dread is definitely fuller with more bottom. BUT, the Sheeran is clearer with more pronounced midrange. Again, depends on what you are doing with them as to which "sounds better." I'd have to say that the Sheeran would cut through better in a group setting. But... the dread would fill the bottom end in better for smaller ensembles. In a solo situation... what are you after? For looping and that sort of thing, I'd think the Sheeran wouldn't go muddy as quick with the overdubbing. Dread is definitely "bluesier" sounding when he's doing the blues stuff here. I think they both sound great. I'd love to have both. Maybe that's a great excuse for me to get both, and a mini Taylor koa. Yeah, that's the ticket. All three, then I wouldn't have to strain myself deciding. :-)
Another thing to remember about Ed sheeran''s guitar is that it's not just built for its sound. Ed uses it as a drum kit in his live performances. He beats it with his knuckles, fist, fingers or the palm of his hand to get different drum sounds which are then repeated via a loop pedal.
MrSitemaster2 Also, for as much as he tours, having hpl back and sides helps against humidity. Another thing they aren’t really mentioning is the pickup system. They’re micing both of these guitars up, but I’ve owned the ed sheeran model and plugged in it sounds fantastic. Way better than when it’s only played acoustically.
@@jarrettfinney4882 Well, it's preference. I do like the muddy amped sound of Martins. Also The stuff Ed does can be done on any guitar that's been properly set up and is playable. I do agree on the HPL being better for travel though... still, I wonder if the top doesn't warp like regular wood does...
I’m 11 years old and I’ve been playing guitar for five years. The problem is, I’ve been playing on an electric ever since. Since I’m really passionate about the instrument, I like to play whenever I get a chance. That’s why I’ve narrowed it down to there two compact guitars. I can’t decide between the two. I’d appreciate if someone could give me some pros and cons for my situation and recommend me one of these guitars. (I’m a big ed fan by the way, been to his show). Thanks! 😃😃. Btw I’m kinda big for my age, I’m 5’8” in height and my hands are pretty big f that info would be useful.
Get The Martin DJR-10 (Martin Jr) It is solid wood and has a 1.75" nut width so if you're big now and still growing it will be comfortable to play. If you are going to buy online I suggest Sweetwater.
Dreadnought Jr. has a more bass response and also very nice for rhythm guitar playing. Downside is the size although this one is scaled down a bit. Ed’s guitar is much smaller and you can take it anywhere. Soundwise looks good for fingerpicking. If you’re looking for a bigger sound maybe hook it up to an amp. My advice go and play them both. See which inspires you the most.
Get the Jr. The shrill sound of the other one gets fatiguing while the Jr. sounds full (and it’s great to record without having to EQ out a ton of bass). Regarding size, you won’t stay your size for long. If you get used to the Jr., once you grow it’ll get easier and easier to play.
Thanks for this comparison. Can you tell me if the Ed Sheeran guitar is the same size as a Baby Martin? or is it bigger? I have a baby martin and Im looking for a solid body guitar between the two sizes. I cant seem to find the answer. Thanks
Both sound good, but, the Dreadnought a little to much base sound that took the high note out, the Signature guitar good base and it didn't drowned out the high notes, which gave it a more lively sound and allowed the single notes to come out when played.
It might be worth mentioning that the reason that the ed sheeran guitar is priced higher is because the money goes to charity, not because it’s supposed to be a better guitar.
One is bigger. So it has deeper sound. Lol I've heard sound comparison I'm going with the ed Sheeran model. Also more compact for travel. I don't like a big body especially when you are sitting your shoulder is up higher and in my opinion less uncomfortable.
I bought LX1RE 2 days ago, and i will send it back to the shop. It sounds little bit like ukulele, but sustain is great and sound is still very good. But i´ll buy Dreadnought JR, it sounds much better.
The LX1 is more practical to take everywhere (but maybe a lttle too heavy...), and its body is a bit better if you have back problems, but the Junior series sounds better and have a nicer neck. I chose the 000, but a 00 with 2 or 3 cm less at the bottom of the body would have been nice. Maybe one day Martin will make it? Or enven a real good parlor in the Junior series?
The D-JR is clearly the superior sounding instrument. To me, that is apparent in this video, but in real life it’s very obvious too. I just saw this video after spending a few hours going back and forth trying to find a Martin that I could enjoy and also share with my young son. The Ed Sheeran is a great instrument and blows away everything else i saw in its size class, but the D-JR annihilates it. I spent more time comparing the D-JR to a full size spruce top Martin in the same price class ($500), and the D-JR beat that one too. Thanks for these videos, I do have a lot of guitar shops in my area, but I will probably come to you guys for my next acoustic because you clearly have the knowledge and passion to help me buy with confidence
I think the dreadnought Jr. Using a gauge 11martin string while ed sheeran guitar using gauge 12 Light nanoweb elixir or martin 12 lifespan.that is why more in treble.
I'm a ES fan . Talented guy . I have & play both ( the non signature LX1E & Dred Jr. with pickup). The Dred Jr. has a nice voice, and sounds more like a full size guitar. It's more like a 00 size guitar. The Sheeran model is smaller ( 0 size ) & sounds good for what it is. Both are good travel size guitars . As mentioned , I'm a ES fan, however, if you only have $$ for one guitar , the Martin Dred Jr. (IMO ) is a better choice. Have had my LX1E long before Ed Sheeran made it popular. Bought it used to take as a spare guitar on gigs. Break a string , it's easier to grab the LX1E , plug it into the amp & continue the gig.
Another thing to remember about Ed sheeran''s guitar is that it's not just built for its sound. Ed uses it as a drum kit in his live performances. He beats it with his knuckles, fist, fingers or the palm of his hand to get different drum sounds which are then repeated via a loop pedal.
I played the newer updated (slightly thinner) Martin JR-10 and it sounds more like the Ed Sheeran. I say if you can find the older fuller sounding Martin Jr grab it quick!
I'm a ed sheeran fan but if have to say it really does depend on what you play the dread Jr sounds great but the ES edition sounds good on others but really it all depends
BLUE HEADSTOCK AND POSITION DOTS !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Horrible aesthetics. Was that Ed's requirement for the signature tag? It debases the whole look of the guitar. As for sound, the DJr sounds rich and mellow compared to the brightness and treble-bias of the ES. I can see that the latter would be best to cut through for a singer with a voice like ED's, but the DJr sounds way better .... which is why I opted for that when buying a Martin.
So i baught the dn jr played iit for about a month had to.leave for school set it against the wall in the bag came back and the neck bent ao bad it doesnt play anymore i have cheap guitars that i do this to for years nothing has bent. Probably will never buy a martin again. Baught it from a local store so martin wont cover it.

I've played them both.
I prefer the dread Jr.
Both are pretty nice though.
Fantastic review! Very helpful! Thank you so much! My fav little martin is the lxm :)
Great review. Un-like most reviewers that won't commit to their preference. You have, and that is refreshing. Thanks

So Nick do you still have the Martin ed Sheeran signature and you’re American?
Another thing to remember about Ed sheeran''s guitar is that it's not just built for its sound. Ed uses it as a drum kit in his live performances. He beats it with his knuckles, fist, fingers or the palm of his hand to get different drum sounds which are then repeated via a loop pedal.

Great Job Nick!
As I have played them both (3 Ed sheeran sigs), and the dreadnought is waaaaaaay better.

I agree the Dreadnaught Junior is a much better sounding guitar and that’s why I bought one with the spruce top.

Dreadnought sound much more fuller than the Signature Edition and really you're mostly paying for who is endorsing the guitar
Both sound good, but, the Dreadnought a little to much base sound that took the high note out, the Signature guitar good base and it didn't drowned out the high notes, which gave it a more lively sound and allowed the single notes to come out when played.

Ed Sheeran Signature sounds nicer. I really like that thinner and lighter tone.
The Answer Play one in real life, and you'll see that the Dr. jr is waaaaaaay better.
intro song please?

Some serious barre playing - great job.

Whats the first song you played?
its an original. hope you dug it. check out Lonely Horse to find more
the little martin sounds more boxy, i'd buy the dreadnought but they both sound really good and they are martin you cannot go wrong either way!
D jr is more like 7/8 vs 3/4 size.
I really want one of that ed sheeran signature edition divide
I'm a ES fan . Talented guy . I have & play both ( the non signature LX1E & Dred Jr. with pickup). The Dred Jr. has a nice voice, and sounds more like a full size guitar. Dreadjunior sounds fuller of course, its bigger. Sheeran model has a lot of top end, good for songs like his.
I played the newer updated (slightly thinner) Martin JR-10 and it sounds more like the Ed Sheeran. I say if you can find the older fuller sounding Martin Jr grab it quick!
Is the JR-10 really so bad? I bought LX1re 4-days ago and i´m gonna send it back to the shop, it´s not a very good guitar.
I vote Eastman actg1
I prefer the sound of Ed Sheeran's.
The Jr is 15/16 not 3/4.
Character In the video It's great, I like it a lot $$
+1 Martin Jr
Dreadnought JR way better and real all wood guitar
Obviously as it's a bigger guitar. Still, for the size of the Ed's it sounds good.
3/4 ed vs 15/16 djr
First y'all what up
Cade Cass nada
I prefer the Ed model
Lx1e
The Ed Sheeran has the intonation off. It was a bit annoying to listen to. Unless it was slightly out of tune. The Junior gets my vote.
Sounded a little out of tune to me too
No Comparison....Martin DRJ...hands down...!!! Better projection...tone...period. Sheeran guitar...?? Pure Novelty...!!
Mic setup is do-do... Who knows, probably the JR?
Now Ed Sheeran is using Lowsen instead of Martin. Buy an Lowden instead XD
Yes, because, LX series isn´t very good.
I'm a ed sheeran fan but if have to say it really does depend on what you play the dread Jr sounds great but the ES edition sounds good on others but really it all depends
The ed sheeran one, lacks shape and colour, it lacks body fullnes of sound
I love still dreadjunior....👍
BLUE HEADSTOCK AND POSITION DOTS !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Horrible aesthetics. Was that Ed's requirement for the signature tag? It debases the whole look of the guitar.

The Dread Jr. blows away the Sheehran. Not even close.
La guitare Éd sheeran est plus "country"
La Dr junior est plus "folk"
So i baught the dn jr played iit for about a month had to.leave for school set it against the wall in the bag came back and the neck bent ao bad it doesnt play anymore i have cheap guitars that i do this to for years nothing has bent. Probably will never buy a martin again. Baught it from a local store so martin wont cover it.
Ed sheeran guitar sound is better
You sure you are 11😂
Ed Sheeran Divide sounds like a cheap laminated top 👎👎👎👎👎
