I legit was listening to a documentary yesterday that said there was a female Buffalo Soldier. I was listening while working,so I didn't catch all of the details, but it blew me away. Francis Kemble, the British woman who married Butler and wrote Journal of a Residence on a Georgian Plantation 1838-1839, wrote many letters to her sister in England. In one such letter describing the slaves her husband owned and how they lived, she interestingly said "I swear these wretched people are every bit as slovenly as the Irish." I remember reading her book many years ago. I believe that's a fairly accurate quote which gives some idea of class distinctions in the British Isles.

Well, know your history - Reparations were paid in 1863 after the Emancipation Proclamation. But they were paid to slaveowners under the Ffifth Amendment (which prohibits the taking of property by the government without compensation). So Reparations for the descendants of slaves have accrued 162 years of interest. 30:43
