    As far as cigarette brand merch went over here in Finland, the one that was most prevalevant was all the West stuff, especially because both Mika Häkkinen and Kimi Räikkönen drove for that silver McLaren team when you could watch F1 on free-to-air TV and cigarette ads weren't completely removed from the public view.

      Here in the US, Indycar with Team Penske was our last connection to Marlboro as a name. Helio Castroneves and Gil De Ferran both drove the iconic Marlboro cars regularly on ABC and ESPN Indycar telecasts up til 2006, when Marlboro was replaced with Team Penske on the sides for good until the 2010s when the red chevron look was ditched. Funny fact, go watch the beginning of the 2002 Indy 500, and you can hear ABC's Bob Jenkins say "Team Penske Marlboro" during the pre race show. That is a massive no-no in the American advertising rule book. Hence, the reason why the Marlboro 500 at Auto Club for CART was called "The 500" on ESPN and SPEED, respectively. Plus, shoutout to Josef Neugarden (Shell Penske 2), going back to back in the Indy 500 for the 1st time since Helio in 2001-02 (who also drove the Penske 2)

Their smoking ban in the 00s was half-hearted compared with ours and I still saw billboard adverts in Leipzig as recently as the mid-10s - apparently rules vary by state, but the fact the national government hasn't forced the issue is likely indicative of this mentality.

It did say limited to stock on hand in magazine. Guy wanted 10 grand to buy it and he didn't even play games he was like 70 years old back then. You gotta remember they even had real fighter jet rides and Marlboro dirt bikes for miles too. Whenever someone would get the obscene amount of miles and purchase an item they though impossible they always settled for a cash payout to gag the deal. But the lynx was real

    There is a slightly modded Red Atari Lynx in some of the very last episodes of BBC's comedy show Only Fools and Horses. Del Boy's son Damien Trotter, when he was around 14 years old can be seen playing it in a couple of episodes. Being the BBC and against Advertising it was pimped out to try and hide what it was but you can see it's an Atari Lynx, and it's red.

    • @reddashgames7550
      @reddashgames7550 Год назад +1

      I dont think that is related honistly, it might be one of two things:
      - the red Lynx prototype (yes that did exist but no units exist and never got into development).
      - Just a stock system painted red, (kinda weird they made it such an eye catching color though).
      Might need to dig into it though i can bet that the BBC wouldnt have used this rare system.... also intrestingly the BBC was known to reuse props, as this was clealy modifyed its posible that other programs might have it. (its that or was taken home by the crew)
      Thanks for reminding me of this as its one of those things that quite likely could actually be found as the BBC was forever reuseing old things and/or givening them away so it quite possibly still exists.

      @@MIKandJEAN Yeah, though given the big step in time its 100% a prop, though as i have a few things from the BBC (mostly stuff from the 40-50s in there technical department such as wave genrators) they clearly didnt have much money so its very very likely the same prop (though maybe not painted?) was used, as even back then the Lynx was kinda seen as somewhat collectable in the second hand market (though not valued at the insane prices you see these days).
      But also it could have even been an employes kids its kinda hard to tell without conext. The BBC is very odd with its props sometimes. (now they rent from the same places as movies unless its something show persific)

      An Atari Lynx including games back in the very early 2000's, (before ebay) at a car boot sale was around £15-£30 from a non-dealer. Gameboy Advance was just out so an Atari Lynx would not of looked out of place if gameplay was being shown on camera, testament of just how advanced the Atari Lynx was for 1989. The game Damien was playing was Hydra, a genuine commercial release for the system.

"You can't tell me what to do!".🥴😵‍💫😵
