    That was a brilliant explanation... I am definitely a perceiver. Literally I started cleaning my closet a few weeks ago and got distracted and started cleaning up the lounge room, then I decided to clean my brother's room, then I organised the kitchen pantry, then went on to the bathroom cupboards, and then finally returned to my room to finish the closet.

      You aren’t. In reality you are much more effective and efficient than judgers. Judgers will get one thing done slowly. You’ll get a million things done quickly even if they are scattered.

  • @johnstoner2004

    INTP myself. Completely agree with what he said in the video. Those of you saying that IXXJs are different because the perceiving process is dominant... you're wrong. Sure, the judging process is secondary, but the judging process is external. J and P determine only which process is external. If you are an introvert, then the introverted process is primary. But the external process for both the introverted and extroverted versions of a type is the same. J and P just describes how you orient yourself to the outside world.
    As an INTP, my functions are Ti Ne Si Fe. My primary function is an introverted judging process, and my secondary function is an extroverted perceiving process. Yes, the primary function is a judging process, but the way I orient myself toward the world is with Ne. That is what makes me a P.

  • @Mentaclink
    @Mentaclink 11 лет назад +24

    J being organized and P messy, is quite of a superficial saying, really... It's much more complex than that. You can be messy and J, organized and P, especially if introverted, since an IxxJ will have a perception fonction as dominant, and an IxxP will have a judgement fonction as dominant.
    Though I won't argue that it's still a general tendency, I don't feel like it's being a mbti pro to teach things like that. I guess it's ok for beginners...

I don't always set out what i got up/out to do in the first place,because i get distracted by things i see or hear! i may go in the kitchen to get a drink and then do something else instead,come back in room to return to my activities and THEN realize i forgot to get that drink.

    This is an explanation that is very much based on the binary preference system. I'm an INTJ, and in light of the stacking of the cognitive functions of that type Ni (Introverted intuition) is my dominant function. Lo and behold, it's a perceiving function leading the stack. So because I'm leading with a perceiving/data gathering function, my 'getting my closet cleaned' can look a lot like that P type diagram. Cognitive functions make the type nuances a lot more interesting, and it's not quite so cut and dry as 'a P looks like this' and 'a J looks like that'.

    • @crystalemullen
      @crystalemullen 6 месяцев назад

      I am an ENFP who once had an INTJ boss. She was not just my boss, but my mentor. She always preferred that emails/ posts/responses be kept short and to the point. So do my best to respond in that vein.
      While I do agree that we both lead with perceiving functions, as an ENFP, the most extroverted part of me is gonna be how I perceive the world of abstract and possibilities. And because it's extraverted, it's messy. It's all over the place. It's wherever the rabbit hole leads me. Whereas as an INTJ. The most extroverted part of her was how she got things done with that extroverted thinking (Te). She was often so organized and linear. And because she led with introverted intuition (Ni), she knew how to forecast and foresee all the other possibilities miles down the road. That was where she would masterfully execute her auxiliary Te. Hope that helps.

  • @Schoolgirl325
    @Schoolgirl325 9 лет назад +6

    I'm an ISFP according to a self-assessment. It makes sense, I'm someone who does everything at the last minute, and the way the psychologist described the way the P gets ready is exactly like me. I get distracted by everything else when I'm supposed to be focused on one task at a time.

  • @Vincisomething

    When he asked that question if the J's room was more clean than the P, I mentally answered yes because I understood it was a trick question. But if I did what a P did in that scenario, I don't think I would have anything done- at least not completely. I think I lean more towards judging, given my slight discomfort with how a perceiver goes about their tasks.

    And yea, both have alot of truth in them, both can work.
    It seems to me that the problem is Js not minding their own business and trying to shape society based on their Judging trait.
    Each personality should be allowed to work in a way that's effective for them, to max out each individuals potential both for their own good and the benefit of us all, but noooo, Js, paticularly SJs can't have that, everyone has to work the way THEY do...

      You might score more in the middle. It's not all or nothing for most people. You see the benefits of J, but show pretty much of the behavior of P. If you are under 25, there is good news. Your brain is still developing towards more J, since the planning part of the brain keeps on developing until that age. This means, that you will frustrate yourself less over time.
      Discipline is somewhat like a muscle. If you train it, you become better at it. Hence further organizing becomes even more easy to maintain. You might find that you will always be on the procrastinating side for things you don't like, but improve over time for things that you do like.

    The difference is not, that Perceivers are more open to the world than the Judgers. Not at all. The Perceivers have been procrastinating other things and been careless about other things so much, that they are weighed down with all of those things, once they finally get going. Where the Judgers have shown the discipline to not displace the pen, to water the plant in time, to write dishwashing soap on the grocery list in time and have done those dishes already. They have shown a much bigger openness to the little things that need to be done in the time before, so they don't have to be done now. Because of this openness, they are much better planners. The closet gets properly cleaned and things are placed back in order of necessity to use them again. Since everything has its own place, it is always found at once. Where the Perceiver didn't have time anymore to really clean the closet and just puts everything back in and will keep on doing so. The closet of the Judger stays well-organized for months to come, where the Perceiver just puts everything in it and cannot find anything in the mess, and becoming frustrated about it, because he needs it now, since he is already late for something else, again.
    Another example: the microwave breaks in the evening.
    Judger: takes it from the electricity net, so someone else will not use it anymore. Buys new microwave on the internet, since it is cheaper and they can be compared better (searches for latest test as well). Plans meals for which leftovers need no microwave to heat them up, since it will take a few days to arrive. Removes the microwave and cleans up under it. Uses the tracking to find out when the new microwave is coming. Installs it right away. Disposes of all garbage in an environment friendly way. Rewards himself with a hot cup of cocoa to try out the new microwave, after having glanced over the instruction manual, which he stores at the usual place to be easily found.
    Perceiver: tries to use it again the next day and nearly sets the house on fire. Has leftovers for a week, that he cannot warm up, because the microwave is broken. Is lucky enough to find a new microwave in his favorite shop for a bargain price (didn't do too well in test and needs to be sold to people unaware of that). Picks it up to put on the place where the old microwave still is. Places it in some dirty place to get the broken microwave out. Displaces the instruction manual, so it is lost when it is necessary. Decides that the box it came in, is excellent for use as a dirty clothes basket (whole room looks horrible because of it). Stumbles over the old microwave until he finally puts it in the basement to collect dust for years to come.
    The Judger gets more out of life in the same time, while living in a more pleasant environment.

    Okay...Most people seam to be auditive-sequential learners, and visual-spatial learners are the minority. Judging types are more auditive-sequentials, whereas Perceiving types are the other. Thanks man !

    The Fs have already separate lines and milestones for plant watering etc.......there are no plants left to water.....all data sets are already addressed in respective straight lines......Ps disturb their silence within while doing all the spontaneous data processing. Fs need the silence so that they can live in their parallel double triple universes while doing such maintenance stuff......

    Me as a INFJ ordering food:
    Look at menu, I will have x,y,z done
    My friend a ESTP ordering food:
    What the sauce goes in x, can I see the side, what about the specials, what cocktails do you have, does that have z, 15 mins later they still haven’t ordered….it drives me up the wall. But I get to experience new things because of my P friend.

      @@charl7346 You haven't met my foster daughter. She's a Perceiver. Her room is a continual mess and not open to any betterment. She is constantly frustrated, because she cannot find anything in her disorganized, messy closet. Tidying up her room takes her hours and in the meantimes she lives like in a garbage dump (and it smells like that too). Two days after tidying up everything is back to horrible. Where I as a Judger need only two minutes to tidy up my room, which has tidy closets too. I can find everything fast and live in a much more pleasant environment. I feel sorry for Perceivers. I feel sorry for her future kids, always living in a mess.

    I am certainly a J compared to this woman who was a total P. She would always arrive at work late whereas I would hate to be late for work. I remember my bus breaking down and I was frantically telling work I was late. I ran into the office just in time with my sweaty shirt clinging to my back. The manage was laughing at me saying they wouldn't have been angry at me anyway since I am so punctual. I hate being late and I love to have a list in my head. I can't go shopping without a list. I feel naked and I wont reach maximum efficiency. I also do not want to go shopping without maximum choice so I plan my route going to each store planning out which grocery to get in each store for best economic value.

    I'm sorry that MBTI students are always exposed to the false dichotomies of Judging and Perceiving. How can Thinkers not be slaves to the rules of logic and Feelers not be moved to action by empathy? Logic dictates while Empathy projects the ineffable bond between subject and object. Thinking categorizes while Emotions blur distinctions. An Intuitive Feeling Perceiver is almost untethered from reality, while their Thinking counterpart is driven to find Order amidst the Chaos.
