It was arguably match of the day. Crazy levels. TennisTV has been avoiding playing any De Minaur for a couple of weeks.
But that match was between 2 pretty boring players - whereas, the matches here included one-handed backhands, creative players and exciting interplay...

Musetti may not have been able to handle Alcaraz today, but boy does he always hit some spectacular shots. Hubi's racket throw was hilarious, but he definitely touched the net lol. Solid routine wins for Sinner, Meddy, and Zverev. Good to see players like Marozsan and Machac in the quarters of a M1000. Excited for the quarters!

I understand the rule of "Touching the net",but I think there's definitely need to add more exceptions...
It's stupid for a point like this,when the opponent has clearly no business in returning the ball,and you lose a point because of a minor connection with the net😅
Don't get me wrong I want Dimi to win the match,but the rules sometime...
I mean,of course you shouldn't be allowed to force the net on purpose,but most of the time when this rule was called it was hardly the case.
But the racket throw was just brilliant 😂😂 no hesitation, relaxed, good follow through.. thoroughly an "aww fuck it" moment.
@@Leo-nc3yxYou don't want to open a Pandora's Box by adding exceptions to a rule like that, you just blanket disallow touching the net in all circumstances and let that be it. Also it's a skill to avoid touching the net.
Musetti played one of the most magical and artistic tennis I ever saw during his first two sets against Djokovic a few years ago. Djokovic was not decreased, and Musetti would have eliminated him in 3 sets if he were able to keep his composure and increase mental strength. Musetti can be a very serious client if he works hard.

They build new stars the same way the players build themselves mostly; by winning tournaments. Tennis is finnicky that way.
He's 24, not young in tennis by any standard, and he needs to win something.

Alcaraz seems to have been around for ever so it's easy to forget he's still only 20 years old!
He's not fully grown and certainly not at full strength and his game has changed enormously over the last year. He's now playing a good variety of shots and he's really excellent at the net. A joy to watch these days and still more to come I think

Weird, the Ruud-Jarry match and the Maroszan-Minaur match -- the two best matches of R16 aside from Dimi-Hubi -- are nowhere to be found. Disappointing from TennisTV. Maroszan is quickly becoming my 2nd fav player to watch outside of the top 4 (Dimi is the best watch outside of those top 4 IMO, the one-hand BH is too smooth lol)

What happened between Hurcakz and Dimitrov?
Quite clear that Alcaraz has played badminton before. The drop is a classic there and you need to be so quick unlike many tennis players, who are very tall and just stand at the back hitting hard. He is even using the loop technique from table tennis to get the ball over them when they get too close to the net.

Octopus believes in baseline grinding more than volleying. The kind of player he is, he doesn't want to finish the rally quick, he's happy grinding the opponent out and forcing an error when they run out of patience/gas which runs out first.
It's his whole game-plan, to tire his opponents with endless long rallies. It works for him, so why would he change?

Musetti played absurdly well against Shelton -- kid is still super young (22 iirc); if he finds some consistency, the talent to beat top-5 guys like Alcaraz once in a blue moon is there. the net rule that stopped hurkacz a bit is pointless. it should be that you are NOT allowed to touch the net BEFORE the ball goes over it. he touched the net with the left foot WITHOUT moving it, AFTER the ball went over.
Since Dimitrov didnt hit back and the net line didnt move, there is no hinderance WHATSOEVER. Its not point discussing about minor details like whether the contact with the net decided the point etc., although you can also discuss that. anyway its pointless to penalize touching the net, when the ball doesnt even go over.
Rules are rules. Pathetic discussion.
