God that's EXACTLY what I thought of when I first watched this video as a small child. That the girls on the bed were sisters. The younger one was the one with no bangs and she was comforting her older sister.
It’s the 90s, and it’s the middle school dance. Your nervous, so you decide to leave the sweaty crowded gym. You are sitting against the many lockers in the dead hallway. Close your eyes..
I remember hearing it for the first time over the speakers at an airport waiting for my plane. And again at another airport inside a restaurant in 2010. I was 14 and I thought it was so magical and catchy and stuck with me. Reminds me of being a kid then and the travelling I did
I feel you here. Travelled a lot as a kid back then as well. Unlike what a lot of people say, airports are a special and magical place in my heart. We're only there when our life is changing.
Listening to this video/song inspired me to write a story, so here you go. When I was in college, the girl in the dorm next to me was the most beautiful girl I’d ever seen. Her name was Summer, and her appearance fit her name so well. She had a short ginger bobbed haircut, blue eyes with flecks of brown and green, tan skin and freckles that covered her whole body. She loved art and would always have a bit of paint smeared on her clothes. I was absolutely head over heels for her. She didn’t have a roomie. Idk why exactly, I never talked to her. The roomie she was supposed to have have probably never showed up and she just didn’t report it. Since she didn’t have a roomie, she’d blast her music. That’s how you knew she was home. The dorms had semi thin walls so it was easy to hear. She’d play stuff like Bowie, Pink Floyd, and Queen’s stuff from the 70’s. But it seems like she loved the cranberries most. I’d hear this song all the time. I remember clearly listening to it through the walls while I wrote a paper on Freudian ideology. My roommate thought it was annoying , but I was too fascinated by her to think the same. She wasn’t the main focus of my life, it was college of course. But I always was nervous when I’d see her in the hall or the cafeteria or on the quad. I had had girlfriends before, but they were mostly for fun. I had never been this enthusiastic about someone else’s existence. And Summer had mentioned having a girlfriend before, so I knew I had a small chance. I was certain that I was meant to be her girlfriend, and she was meant to be mine. It never happened though. We did become friends during senior year, but it never went past that. I was too scared to make the first move, and I didn’t want her to feel uncomfortable. She ended up dating some guy. I don’t hate him, he’s smart, kind, and he treats her like a princess. He takes her to concerts and stuff. Recently I even saw on her instagram where they saw Queen+ Adam Lambert in concert. I would never have been able to give her that, so I accepted that she’d always see me as just a friend. I wanted her to be happy. This video brings me back to freshman year in college, writing my paper, listening to this, thinking about the literal “girl next door.” Back when I didn’t know if we’d be together or not, and thought we would. Although my feelings for Summer still “Linger,” I see how happy she is with Liam. Seeing her smile, and go on this journey is reward enough. Although it does hurt some days. This morning when I got on Instagram I saw her latest post. It was a picture of her, holding her hand out, smiling that beautiful smile, eyes twinkling with tears of joy, the only thing that outshined the tears in her eyes was the engagement ring on her finger. Now, at age 25, I know the answer to what 19 year old me had always thought about. It may not have been the answer I wanted, but in seeing the way Liam loves her, and how she loved him back, I know without a doubt that I would never change a thing. Even so, my favorite season will always be Summer. :)
You have died. You’re in a cold, dimly lit room. A man sits at the far end of a table. This song beings to play in another room. You recognize the tune because you always associated it with your first love and first real heartbreak. You have never been able to finish listening to this song because it was just too much pain. When Dolores died, you tried again but the shock was too much. The man clearly says, “Behind this door, you will finally get to hear the end of this song, but it will not be the peace that you find. Or you can go back and make this song mean something else. Maybe next time you’re here, the end of the song will mean much more.” You’re crying. Do you go through the door? You lift your head up and go back. You may have to wait another 40 years to hear the end of this goddamn song, but its a bet worth taking. You have died. You’re in a cold, dimly lit room. A man sits...
i used to listen to this song on repeat after i stopped talking to someone i really liked and felt way more invested than them. after that i would always hear this song every time im at the grocery store and this reminds me of that.
Heard this for the first time in a taxi in England, taking me from Heathrow to London. I had just flown in from home in Spain. The song had just come out and I of course had not heard of The Cranberries. Takes me back many years.
this gives me flashbacks to vivid memories of being a child and trying to sleep while at friends of family’s houses with this song blasting from downstairs
this video gave me so much comfort for some reason. My mom used to listen to the cranberries non stop when I was younger and this just makes me wanna lay on my mom and cry ❤️😢
This makes me feel like I'm in a house party bathroom, standing in front of the door and thinking how to say to this guy that I like him...and gathering the ovaries to go for it.
Now I've stepped out of the party to cry on the balcony overlooking the town down the hill. A soft girl voice comes from behind. Ashley doesn't care how pathetic I look. She knows I'm beautiful. Everything is going to be ok. Lets go dance
and I'm in so deeeeeep you know I'm such a fool for yoooooou you got me wrapped around your fingeeeeers do you have to let it linger? do you have to, do you have to, do you have to let it lingeeer
I hear this song in Goodwill all the time for some reason? I always sing along lol, once got a family to join in. Very sad song though, I don't have any specific connection to it, it's just sounds melancholy.
I Swore I would be true But honey so did you So why were you holding his hand Is that the way we stand Oh you're lying all the time Is it just a game to you But Ive been so blue You know I'm such a fool for you You've got me rapped around your fingerrrrrrr Do you have to let it Linger Do you have to Do you have to Do you have to let it linger Ireland, one day I will come to you, I will recite this song in my ears, please let it rain that day for I would like my tears not to be noticed.

best india I like this song so I have no issue with your preference, but if I’m honest I didn’t understand your reply to my question. Just wanted to know if you rate MBV/ do they compare to the Cranberries for you? Your language is intriguing though it evades me
honestly i love the idea of this, but it feels like it was artificially done in a program, even if it was through a wall the sounds and lyrics would be clearer
When your older sister just had a messy breakup but it's 1993.

On point
Why does this comment make me feel so nostalgic and just hits me in the feels? 😢
I was born in 2005 and this hits different
God that's EXACTLY what I thought of when I first watched this video as a small child. That the girls on the bed were sisters. The younger one was the one with no bangs and she was comforting her older sister.
Something about this makes me nostalgic for things that never happened
this sounds like a metaphor for her death, like she's still singing for us forever, but now she's in the "other room" 😭😭😭
Taylor Gonzalez deep 😭😭😭
Taylor Gonzalez damn dude :(
How high are you rn
omg i’m so sad now 😔
Fuck, you made me feel stuff.

Farewell dolores, your voice will stay lingering in my life.
This unlocked a deep sadness within me

Exactly the feeling I get from it.
For some unknown reason, this made me quite teary eyed.
Probably because your head remembers that Dolores is gone.
I only ever watch this video between the hours of 1 and 4am. It's perfect.
this gets me EVERY TIME
You have died. You’re in a cold, dimly lit room. A man sits at the far end of a table. This song beings to play in another room. It’s like she’s gone from this world but she’s still alive in “the next room.”

this gives me flashbacks to vivid memories of being a child and trying to sleep while at friends of family’s houses with this song blasting from downstairs
