Fascinating! When I first moved to The Netherlands, I had never tried to cook white asparagus before. I prepared a nice amount of it and served it to my guests...they were polite and said nothing. My Dutch husband was the one to tell me that it must be peeled first! Hello from Enkhuizen!
While in Europe many years ago I made a hog of myself eating the white asparagus in a restaurant in Belgium .... I ate so much the owner gave me a FREE plate of french fries to go with the third order.
I eat green asparagus only. If you eat the green asparagus, after peeing you will realize a special smell in your urine, especially if you are a male. Hee hee! Will buy and eat the white one soon. Thanks for the video!

My grandparents lived through the depression. They grew asparagus but would barely eat it. They considered it the kind of thing you eat when all else is gone. Funny how things change. Lobster used to be unpopular too.
I live in Galicia, north of Spain. Here, when my parents had my actual age, all kind of seafood and octopus was a poor's people food. Now is considered a luxury.

Sure makes you wonder how they make a profit in the end. With all those expenses in just the farming portion of their business, they must be extremely good at running the accounting portion. I'm also sceptical about the modern equipment being more cost effective than the manual laborers. Machinery like that tends to cost a fortune and breaks down alot. The harvesting laborers would be my pick if it was my business. Great video. Thanks.

I did not realize that asparagus is such a labor-intensive job. There must be a lot of doctors specializing in carpal tunnel surgery there.

The belts in the factory seem to run exceedingly fast for those workers. I bet the workers are tired when their day shift ends.
I've waited for the canned asparagus. But it's always been interesting watching your videos
