Man he said it. I got there slower than everyone else, and now all those people who passed me by are not there anymore. This man is an inspiration to me. He is the real deal.
I love your book. We used it as our text book in my Sound Arts studies. I refer to it all the time whenever I'm in doubt. Thanks for writing and sharing your book with the world.
Great information Mr. Passman and I did purchase your book, "All You Need To Know About The Music Business".....just starting to read it as a new and upcoming singer/songwriter. Loving it!!!! Thank you sir!
bravo sir! mr passman has always been an excellent source of what to do, how to do it, etc in the music business. always a good buy, always a good listen.
Totally great person to share his knowledge on music business ,I actually thought about that to having an a music attorney pitching my music and get me the right deal as the artists ,and songwriter and composer
8 years later we have COVID-19 which has devastated the live music industry where artists make thier money. Daniel Ek of Spotify might have watched this interview to build Spotify
Question about publishing. If Sony purchased half of (50%) M.Jackson's Atv publishing for $100 million. [Ques.] Then why do people say M.Jackson owned a portion of Sony's publishing. It sounds like it should be one way only because Mike didn't but theirs. Help me understand if you can.
Does anyone one know When this interview took place? Best I could determine..its at least 8yrs old..and a few details may have changed (I don't know)...So...when did this interview take place??
What if you write the song, you are the artist, have your own idea of arrangement for your music then give the producer your concept of how your music should go for the song, plus your own idea on the music format?
@@davidcottrell1308 no that is false, you both own 100% of the song because there are the lyrics and the instrumentation. the lyricist gets 100% and the producer/arranger/instrumentalist gets 100%.
This man knocked everything on the dot!! He even predicted the future with TIK Tok and everything
He does read the contracts. The contracts says a lot we don’t know

So if I write 100% of the lyrics, and the producer creates 100% of the music, how much publishing do we each have?
typically, 50% unless you agree otherwise...
