I've been running a fluid motion Magik deck. She can play a ton of cheap events very easily and then use stepping disk to get extra readies. I thought I would like bishop more, but Magik has revitalized a lot of my underutilized cards. Keep it up with the high quality content, dude.
Don't forget Enraged for Cosmo! I struggled for a while to make Hulk work with Magik, but I hard a hard time squeezing in enough physical resources for him. It feels like a competition between Magik wanting wild resources on top for her kit, and Hulk wanting physical resources. You can usually manipulate one or the other to the top, but difficult to get both on the same turn. I started enjoying Magik a lot more once I took Hulk out, and swapped some physical card for wild cards, then focused more on Cosmo. With Enraged, Energy Spear, Sidearm, and Boot Camp, he can attack for 7 every turn indefinitely. Add in a Laser Blaster and Command Team that you can gain during the age of apocalypse campaign, and that gets even more absurd.
Angry Cosmo is very fun. I have struggled to find deck space for all the upgrades but glad it's worked well for you! I'll have to try it again some time 😁
She might be in my top 5, maybe? Agree top 10. But I don’t have everything. Gambit and Storm are above her, IMO, for now. I definitely need to play more.
I really enjoy Magik, to me she’s a blend of scarlet witch and domino in the way she works which I really like. She seems like she should be so overpowered with essentially starting with a 6 card hand size and the super strong mystic cards but yet she feels very fun to pilot and games with never feel as though it doesn’t matter what I do and I’ll come out on top such as with a doctor strange or spider ham. I definitely enjoy bishop more but Magik is one I’ll come back to frequently!! Great video as always Villain
Not yet taken the hit to my wallet for AoA yet, so can’t really comment. There look like there are so many good cards that I would be tempted to exceed the min 40 card deck…. Especially if you fly through the deck as quickly as it sounds you might. Great review and looking forward to the next.
Tangential question, what are your thoughts on Basic Spell? Have you found the flexibility worth the lowered efficiency? My guess from this review is don't play it that much with Magik based on how many other cards you want to play with her.
Oh fantastic question. I changed my initial plan on how I was going to talk about the new aspect/basic cards so completely forgot to talk about them here. Long story short? You're right, Basic Spell isn't here because I'm not a fan. I think Magik is already very flexible and doesn't generally need it. There is a case for it in some builds - but I think there are better builds in basically every aspect that don't require it. In a world full of extremely efficient cards and tight deck space, Basic Spell has drowned before arrival 😅
I have. I've been playing her in pure basic and struggling to keep to 40 cards even so. Her great economy being online right away helps it work fine and it's another way to spend Power in All of Us though TBF in basic that's usually covered. The game isn't so hard that we need to play absolutely the most efficient cards and as you speculate the extra options do make it worthwhile. It's fun to have a random heal!
@@jonathanpickles2946 I do agree with you about the difficulty point. This game does not require over optimization to be play efficiently. But I also think that Basic Spell is a glorified Haymaker from the core set. Basic Spell is not a bad card, especially with a small card pool, but if you own full collection, this card might not be the priority, and as @VillainTheory stated in his video, it can be a struggle to find a card spot for that in a Mystic/X Men traited Hero deck. Nevertheless, I'm glad Basic Spell exist, it is totally playable, and that is what I ask from a cards game: Cards that are functionnal.
@@alberttaco3668 I'm not really disagreeing though I've no interest in how to build a collection. However Basic Spell is an improved To the Rescue! or a (mostly) improved Recuperation that you can deal damage with if that's what you need, or it's all you have left. 3 threat removed lines up nicely with PSS solo in a way that Hex Bolt 🔩 doesn't.
I've only played a couple of games with Magik, just because I got so enamored with Bishop. I thought he would be kinda boring, but blasting stuff with tons of damage while tanking pretty much anything the villain can throw at you turns out to be highly enjoyable. Whoda thunk it?
Bishop is a lot of fun! Energy Conversion, something they didn't show before release, makes such a huge impact. Just crazy output from his rifle and uniform with a really unique feel to his gameplay.
Hulk is insane with Magik, it was the first card i added to the first Deck I made for her and i was not disappointed. She's a really fun hero, definitely Domino-esque style but in a way that I enjoy significantly more. Very strong, but works in such a way to make you feel like you always earn it yourself and it's not free.
I’ve found magik to be a lot of work in multiplayer for a very limited reward, she really rewards great deck construction which is probably why our mystic player is struggling with her 😂
I think she's pretty good, but I enjoy playing Scarlet Witch more just she's easier to pilot. I think Magik is my 2nd favorite Mystic behind SW. Scarlet Witch also just feels more powerful than Magik, but that may be because I still kind of suck playing Magik consistently.
I knew that mystery card had to be hulk. He's an even better sidekick to Magik than Cosmo. My favorite aspect for her is aggression mainly because of him

Fluid Motion is a great card I haven't tried for her yet - definitely going to have to do that. Love it!

Thanks! And that's a great description, 100% agreed!
I love the "Morph Smash!" reference.
Glad someone got it! Every time I use Hulk in an X-Men hero's deck now? It's just Morph.

You can definitely go over 40, it just somewhat undoes the value of moving through your deck quickly. But it can be very fun!

The X-men characters are so good, it is hard to pick which one to play.

Well said!

Haha! She's definitely a little tricky but I truly believe she's worth the effort!
I think Rock, Paper, Scissors is amazing since basic cards are so good with x-men and is worth a mention.
Great shout, totally should have mentioned it!

Scarlet Witch is definitely easier to pilot - I like the puzzle Magik presents but it's not for everyone. And Scarlet Witch is just fantastic 😁

Heck yeah!
