This is a comment for all the slow fat rollers in the future who where not quick enough to watch the video in 2 days and missed Infa's outro that he edited out. It was Godefroy lore.
I have always thought that it was originally gold because of the heightened levels of yellow all over it- And the fact I think the ancient dragons themselves may once have been fully gold (Or at the very least are entirely imbued with it) However, I used to have a lot of PVP matches near the chunk on the first step and always wondered why there were blue splodges all over it :'D but when I ripped the textures there was no blue there so I figured it was not an actual part of the structure. MANY colours, you say.......... Maybe it is worth another check.. Murkwater chunk, you say (Near the Grace, I imagine). How fun :D What colours did you see? (Aside from gold colouring and blue splodges) I will keep my eyes peeled >_> EDIT you know what? I've always thought the catacombs also looked a little rainbow coded and now I am thinking since they are so heavily relevant to farum... maybe it was ALL rainbows :'D >_>
I've literally been on a hunt for rainbows in Elden Ring ever since Tarnished Archaeologist had his videos about the flood. The reason why was because, in the Bible, God made rainbows as a type of penance for for trying to wipe-out humanity with the flood. It's supposed to be a sign of God's love or mercy. Though it always seemed more of a side effect of his supposed wrath. Needless to say I too was focusing on the rainbow stones and I suspected that Farum Azula was the source of rainbow color/power but I think you cracked the code wide open with this find. It's always the forensic storytelling that I love most about From Software.
@@TotoIsWriting TA mentioned that the stone arks were used against an ocean of molten rock, hence them being fused with the walls of Stone Coffin Fissure makes sense.
small quibble: it wasnt a penance, its essentially god's memo reminder. Check out Genesis 9:14-15. -> Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.
Maybe a connection there to the DS3 painter. The one who said they would create a new world. I mean the main thing one uses to paint are fingers after all

@ yes I do think they all reference a moment in time. I’ve always theorized that Stars and light, especially in regards to Remembrances, the Eclipse, and Godfrey=Gilgamesh (who wished to become immortal by being enshrined in the stars), is all about the idea of “eternity” and “immortality”, of enshrining a specific time or person by manipulating light.
The idea of Marika trying to make the world more like her gentle, green home, but saving the color of the flowers for her perfect indestructible capitol city, is very cute.
I'm not sure what's more impressive, the attention to detail in this game's architecture, or the theorycrafting at work in this video. Great work as always
Im only 3 minutes in, and already my mind is racing thinking about the implications of this. First thing that comes to mind is Morgotts Sword, and the fact that it is made from his cursed blood, sealed away in dull stone. Secondly, is that of course white light when shone through a prism splits into the full colour spectrum. Can't wait to see what you have to say about the significance of Rainbow City. Edit: you have not disappointed, you immediately pivoted into the exact place my mind went in regards to the shaman village, and the rainbow stones, and the source of their light being the ruins of Faram Azula
Fuck I know I should wait until I've finished the video, but I cant contain myself. Marika's quote makes so much sense now. Thine means "mine," and so Marika is saying she has the choice to either divest herself of the Order and wallow at the fringes as a powerless upstart, or become one with Order, which I believe is meant to be taken very literally, as this in all likelihood refers to her becoming the physical vessel of the Elden Ring. Or, in other words, becoming one with Order.
this really reminds me of how folks used to think roman statues were always that white and grey but turns out they were meant to be painted as well. really fun irl influence that from soft is clearly drawing on to make leyendell feel so much more ancient and lived in Edit actually am watching through the video and you mention it heck yeaaa!
@@BXRNT_TOAXT probably because Messmer was shown burning the shit out of everything in the cinematic trailer - and at one point could've done this to Enir Ilim as well before ultimately retreating and sealing it. They also hint that the Scadutree was probably more akin to the Erdtree at one time, giving its own blessings much etc etc - so maybe had golden leaves too.
@@ScumMageInfaI think that Melina did successfully burn the Erdtree during her war with Marika (as the Gloam Eyed Queen) but many trees, such as redwoods, actually benefit from burning

It blows my mind that this much effort and layering went into lore for a game like this… AND how original the presentation of fantasy themes feel (because they aren’t derivative of Tolkien) You could make an entire expanded universe with a book series’s, tv shows, movies. I can’t stress how rare and well thought out this entire world is 👏🏼
@@The.Nasty. the erd tree is veeery reminiscent of the trees of valinor, the design of elphael has a lot of lothlorien visuals... i bet i could find some more if i put my mind to it. They are not quite on the nose, but i would argue the inspirations are there
Thank you for all that you do. This immediately makes me think of how color is often an indication of power; for example, the blackflame loses its godslaying abilities after being bleached of its red color when destined death is sealed.
That’s a fair point, but the lack of color can also bring power. The somber smithing stones, for example, are bleached smithing stone / dragon scales, and they’re more powerful than the base.
@@Zifzi In fact, these bleached stones are the key ingredient to crafting a god-slaying weapon. Maybe color is tied to divinity, and the somber stones' absolute lack thereof is linked to their ability to cut down gods -or maybe most of the lore is vague enough that you can say anything about this game-
@@TehCakeIzALie1and yes, the game lore is quite vague. I would have preferred a smaller game with a clearer lore to unravel, and maybe only then a full saga/trilogy to make all the cool stuff they made with the world-building... Such a huge mess, even more after the DLC
When I first saw the rainbow stone wall textures you used, I got a lightning bolt in my mind thinking about like the emerald city in wizard of oz. From wikipedia: "In the first book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900), the walls are green, but the city itself is not. However, when they enter, everyone in the Emerald City is made to wear green-tinted spectacles. This is explained as an effort to protect their eyes from the "brightness and glory" of the city, but in effect makes everything appear green when it is, in fact, "no more green than any other city". This is yet another "humbug" created by the Wizard.[2]" So, I'm of two minds on this: 1) Gold absorbs sunlight, that's why all the roofs are painted over with gold in a way that doesn't necessarily seem ornamental, more functional. Magic Solar Panels. These bricks then move that energy throughout the city, producing a rainbow-stone glow. Since the Erdtree is producing False sunlight, the whole city is faded now. 2) The Brilliance of the Golden City is not something that is visible using normal eyes, and can only be seen by someone who would have the equivalent of "Golden-Tinted Spectactles". If you consider that the "true sun" might be sealed in farum azula with placidusax, the fact that ruin fragments come "charged" with enough "solar energy" to glow makes sense. So that means that there's some process by which a ruin fragment becomes a rainbow stone that doesn't involve charging it, it comes pre-charged from the ruins. Went to check what crafting book teaches this "technique" to you... Just to realize that you start the game with the recipe. Feels kinda spooky actually. Maybe the Tarnished Built Leyndell.
I'd love to see a version of it with the texture literally just left as brightly-colored gemstone, no attempts to match the brick at all. Rainbow-Road Leydell, if you will.
It does finally give more context to Godrick's "Our Home Bathed in Rays of Gold". The Rainbow City was his home, without the rays of gold, it's just Leyndell.
Woah what a cool discovery, wild that I got recommended this so early- just found your One Great Original Sin video yesterday, love how much detail you go into boss
I don’t know if someone else already commented this, but one of the things I am touching on in my upcoming video is that the Erdtree, Urd’s Tree, is a representation of Urd’s Well where the norns would meet to portend and manipulate fate. The land of the Erdtree is one of the realms in the Lands. The Gold Road, the Lands’ Via Ignatia that once connected the sister eternal cities and more, is the road to reach any of the realms in the Lands. And Marika built Upper Leyndell as a city of rainbows. My mind goes straight to the Bifröst. Great video. You and NamelessSinger are great. Hope to stand with this level of quality with my 5-part video series I’m working on. 🙏
The light of each star, each glintstone, the light shining from a different outer god. Marika's Bedchamber, the Pantheon, implies these foreign stars are all kinds of a piece in her court. Her son Radahn is tasked with halting the movement of said stars. The nomads adorn themselves too with precious gems that glitter like the stars-- the rainbow stones lead to riches, after all. Riches to be spread across the realm as part of a great caravan. Alas, the stars were not meant to move freely, and the nomads were to be condemned for their betrayal of the Golden Order. Even the nomadic knight Jerren would eventually be bound by oath to the Starscourge. He was a colorful eccentric, a witch-hunter, and a guest of the Carian Royals. He was also likely a member of the Haima Conspectus based on the shape of his helm (his dialogue also includes lines that ask if Radahn is "hammering out weapons", and the study of the Haima is of cannons and the gavel. The colors he represents are the glories of the festival, which goes against the Golden Order, and by which Ranni's fate is intertwined... strange for the festival to be hosted by a witch-hunter. Radahn embodies a bloody star himself, poisoned by the red light of Malena's rot goddess, and he engorges himself "like a dog" (like Gurranq on deathroot). Jerren is glad to grant him an honorable death. Jerren's quest is a continuation in the story of coloured stone: he seeks out the enemy of Caria Sellen who is the Graven Witch that has murdered countless mages before (A gravestone contains an empty hole, and Jerren fears Sellen is an empty husk, and her soul is fled elsewhere. (Also not dissimilar to what is said of Marika as she is "no where to be found.")) Finally, when Jerren promises to crush both her frame and her primal glintstone is she felled. Jerren rewards us with the Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone. So it were, if we destroy the Elden Ring and bring back the first light-- the nascent light of Marika's origin that Miquella wields from the genesis state of Farum Azula (uncrumbled)-- we might restore the graven ancient dragons locked and rotted in ruin stones.
Well in real life gold doesn’t tarnish… take that however you like. Everything else fades and becomes “Tarnished” while only the gold remains pure and unfaded by time or calamity.
tthis supports the throey of the 'dappled' colours that signify true order , Hawkshaw did a colour video i'm sure you'd appreciate it, it makes this rainow city so much more fitting for the lore! good find scum!
Perhaps the rainbow reflected not just the rainbows of Farum Azula but also the rainbow bounty of the Erdtree itself; the crystal tears that once flowed so freely exist in myriad colorful forms, viridian, cerulean, opaline, golden, crimson... Great work on the textures and the collab music was so sick.
I thought the paint would be uniform on the bricks, but it reminds me more of Opal. When you shine light on opal, it fragments the light in blocky colors like the bricks shown. Beautiful texture and amazing discovery!
ALL QUESTIONS ABOUT METHODS ETC ANSWERED HERE :) The first images I show are NOT edited in ANY way (If you look in the Dung Eaters room you will see the rainbow pillars they are tremendously obvious) I ONLY changed brick work that already had rainbow texture; I simply enhanced the colours already there for the first 2 methods In my third method, I forgot to show which was the original and which was what I imposed- So at 11:20 - 11:44, the TOP is the part I am fixing up using the bright rainbow stones, and the BOTTOM is the original texture. I kept the brick like texture and simply imposed the rainbow stones over the equivalent colours on the original texture (They each lined up, though it is very hard to see when editing like I do, unless you're using shading techniques) PS. MUSIC = www.youtube.com/@Audoboros + HUGE shoutout to www.youtube.com/@LadyNightscale who's guide greatly helped me achieve the results! ~ Infa
@voraito IK the bizzaro hogwarts was intended to "sound" like a graven mass If it's the overall quality, it was probably my fault for auto normalising with the music files in the video 😩 I didn't even think about that..
@@ScumMageInfa That makes sense. I like how it gets faster and more sinister-sounding as it progresses. RUclips's compression isn't going going to present anything at its highest quality either!
These clolors... The color theory of Hawkshaw makes these finding all the more interesting. This game has so many secrets left. Thanks for finding these things! Your video about Miquella is one of my favorite and your other findings become more and more engaging Nice work!!
It’s funny, the way the rainbow of colors actually makes the yellow of the Golden Order’s rotting flags stand out. Yes, yellow…not gold…. “The roots are mired in madness” indeed 😊
I reckon the remaining 'grey' stonework is supposed to be white (like the combined stone colours) or cream or something, it'd go well with the brickwork and add more light to compliment the colours. I'm curious what real world city this is pulled from, because I wouldn't be surprised if some old city did this (or new, I guess since there are plenty of cities today with houses that are different colours, like in Italy and so on. But those are whole houses and not brick by brick).
Very interesting. I would hesitate to simply insist what color the now grey accent parts actually were, but I'm confident they weren't this matt grey. Maybe polished marble white like the newer constructed bits of Haligtree? I had my doubts, Esp in the intro but seeing your process and the final result, as well as the rainbow stone tie in are very interesting. Killer insight as always!
I was hesitant to do anything with the pillars because I wasn't as sure (Since they dont look rainbow if you glare at them for several minutes unlike all of the other brickwork) but I think you are right. 100% probably were gold coded haha
Incredible. It's like I instantly knew before I ever heard you say it because I've been looking at it for so long. I love this game so much. You're doing truly great work here.
This raises a bunch of intrigue for me regarding Enir Ilim, specifically the red, black, gold, and white cololored mosaic patterns all over the place. The most notable one is the lift that's right before the Divine Staircase. Its got a straight up Sun depiction with the inner interior even having accents of blueish silver along with the rest of the usual suspects throughout the design. Enir Ilim ties together a lot of the architecture found throughout Leyndell, Stormveil, The Eternal Cities, and the Shadowkeep. I think there's much to be uncovered here. (Like why there is a marked lack of green in Hornsent architecture as a whole)
It might be an intentional theme about the hornsent being a more ancient culture as words for colours arise in a general order. Blue is typically last or close to last, and green is often after yellow (and definitely after white, black and red)
Interestingly, Black, White, Yellow(Gold) and Red are all a part of the alchemical process to create a Rebus. I think those colors specifically are meant to tie the Hornsent to the alchemical practice that created Marika/Radagon. We even see the statue of two bodies embracing and coiled around by a spiral all over Enir Ilim.
Astounding work! This is one of those personal achievements that help enrich not just the setting, but how the fandom interacts with it. I cannot wait to see what else you can find.
This was a great find and a great effort reconstructing Leyndell, well done! I was all excited about to mention the colours found in the plaques of the Eternal City and Mauseoleums, but you got to that haha. To add to this (though I don't know if/how it connects) Greyoll has a rainbow of colours on her skin, you can see red/green/blue patches on her in certain parts. Feel like there's a conceptual overlap in "tarnishing/fading to white" and losing colour here. Really liking your videos lately, you and Nameless Singer have breathed fresh life into the community recently imo.
Amazing discovery and beautiful reconstruction. Makes me wish for a fully restored Leyndell. The presentation of it all, too, just makes for a lovely video. The lil preview for your collaboration video is a really cool idea. I've never seen your channel before, and it makes finding this video within the window a neat reward - and I feel comfort knowing that the content will be available eventually had I not.
This channel has been such a nice find. I think you guys are on track to be up there with Tarnished Archeology in terms of unique lore theories/content. Good luck!
Laocoön is misleading in its transliteration due to Latin influence, making it tricky to pronounce. Greek doesn't transform vowels the way English does with duplication, so when you read an Ancient Greek name that has multiple vowels in sequence, you say those vowels distinctly, and whenever you see two vowels cheek by jowl and one has diaeresis (two dots), it means the second vowel is to be distinguished from the first. So Laocoön (Λαοκόων) would be said more like la-oh-ko-own, though some say it more like lay-OH-ko-won as that's a bit more natural in English. (Been having to work out Greek names for a project, and their transliterations and pronunciations for TTS. It's been a learning experience!)
The lore of this game always amazes me and seems to be never ending. Not to mention, all of the work it must have taken to go back and do this. Great video!
Oh mage you’ve really outdid yourself here. You are a real tarnished archaeologist to go brick by brick like this! I’m in awe! This game, this masterpiece is worth the work every time! This absolutely made something click for me, particularly when you brought up the merchant caravan’s love of color. They were probably so drawn to this place because of it 😢 and in the hidden darkest shadows of Leyndell holds such miseries and oppression to make its lovely Golden Age possible just as it is underlined again in SOTE…. Much to think about. SO excited for more of your work.
I also recognize these textures in the large solid looking dappled beams that we see coming from the Erd tree at different times. They are stretched a little in the beams but now the dappled colors make sense.
Very glad to have helped you explore the depths and (if youll forgive the pun) spectrum of detail and passion put into the architecture and aesthetics of my favorite franchise!
@@LadyNightscale Couldn't have done it without your guide! :) Thankyou for going through the effort to make it! It was a vital contribution to the project!
Damn brick by brick. Devil is in the details. Or light-bringer You truly are the Elden Ring Lore Solaire. Or the hero of the community. Very excited for the dragons I wrote out notes from my prospective on what the game is about. Using literary comparisons, to set up my Grandma theory. It has been a fun road with your channel. Thank you for the superlative content
Leyndell if time had yet to dull its luster. Impressive work, it makes a lot of sense that the royal capital would have looked similar to this when it was built! The music in the end section sounds magnificent as well.
Very interesting theory… unfortunately, I don’t think it was intentional. Using desaturated “rainbow” texture instead of plain gray is very popular in 3d rendering especially for stuff like rock or glass, notice how it’s usually used in contrast to the pillars and ornamentations which historically would be made out of sandstone or concrete, using rainbow textures is just a way of making the wall look more textured and less repetitive
Maybe Leyndell was subject to an Eclipse in the past, draining the color of the walls, much like the guy who made this connection to Farum Azula (One side of the city is completely grey/whiteish, even the trees).
For those seeing this video late… you really missed out! He did a live foot reveal, with some real nice feet pics. A pretty impressive tier list of best feet (better than Rusty’s) and he talked about how the feet are the key to everything! It’s wild… I didn’t know the statues had so much detail on the feet specifically, or that the more “holy” a character is the more attractive their feet… This dude really went full Tarantino here you guys missed it! What a crazy turn. Don’t believe me… 17:50 he’s literally in between a pair of giant feet as he’s saying he has “one last thing to share”… I’m not joking!
The color palette overall reminds me of the land of shadow. I couldn’t tell you why I feel like that but seeing old Leyndell just feels reminiscent of the ancient themes felt in the DLC
Absolutely random thought, but: I'd REALLY like to see either Fromsoft or Remedy develop an interpretation of SK's The Dark Tower series into a, ahem, souls-like or Control-esque game (or more appropriately, games).
This reminds me of roman statues being imagined as plain marble today but were originally painted with bright colours. Edit: Seems it reminded you too lol
Can you add icons back to the recesses on the walls (I forget the word - like statues of the gods or something) it looks like there would have been a lore more imagery that the erdtree followers removed from the city. Ps it looks like Metyr was once rainbow too - maybe she was originally opaline
I also just wanted to point out it's a funny coincidence that the reconstructed leyndell looks golden at a distance - the rainbows blend together to look golden. This is most apparent with the second technique, at points like 4:10, but it's visible during your showcase of your efforts to retexture everything. It all comes back to Gold and light, and the way we see the world... with our eyes... no wonder criminals and penitents had their eyes removed or sealed.
You just keep hitting them out of the park. When you say you’re putting pieces together and building to something, I sit and wait. When Elden Ring has had its day you should consider going into Assyriology or some kind of translational field- you have a gift in the art of induction.
Very interesting video! Thanks for sharing. It's weird the doors in Leyndell are sealed with gold. Do you have any ideas why the doors have the golden glue sealing them?
It’s supposed to be “corpse wax” of all things if I’m not mistaken. What those giant enemies around the town hanging around the oracles are made up of.
Ok so now that ive finally made it through this amazing video, I ironically really only have one final comment to make. This discovery, along with some of your other videos, has given me full confidence in exploring something similar I've yet to see anyone else really mention, let alone talk about in any amount of detail. I unfortunately have 0 knowledge of how to make videos, nor do I have access to any of the tools available on pc such as free cam, data mining, playing around with game assets, etc, so while I have doubts as to whether this will be a project I see to fruition, I am feeling very much inspired to try solidifying my findings, organizing them into something resembling a script, and if not turning it into a video, at the very least making a lengthy Reddit post two. Sorry I can't offer you anything more than my overly enthusiastic comments and a like, as I'm not in a position to be able to contribute on Patreon or anything at the moment. I do greatly appreciate these videos though. One of these days ill finally catch one of your free cam lore streams, hopefully.
@@Coast2CoastFlyin There will be plenty of opportunities for the lives- and I also intend on making guides for how to make and edit loretube videos as well ♡
@ScumMageInfa like a dream come true! Thanks my man, looking forward to these future plans. Although I'm now wondering how you find the time to do everything, it's an awfully ambitious set of goals you're working towards.
Considering the contrast image and some closer looking myself, I think even the roads had the rainbow brick pattern. Methinks they’re trying to one-up the Emerald City of Oz. 😂
So I finally read 'The Idylls of the King' yesterday with all its high-saturation Victorian Arthuriana (moderately worth it) and all I have to say is that now you've made a convincing argument for the multicoloured stones being deliberately used and displayed, you need to turn the saturation up on the banners and paint all the grey stonework like a Roman temple or mediaeval church. :D
Okay, I know it's been a long time and it's to show the decay of everything, but I do wish they kept more of the colour. The golden tops of the buildings does stand out, but otherwise it just looks like a flood of white architecture. I really like the restored version.
Hmmm... good work (a lot of work, too). Buuuut... I've never seen a rainbow stone that wasn't glowing (although I suppose they would have to die out eventually unless they are radioactive ;-). Even the restored colors look "faded" by comparison to what a vibrant, young, hopeful city of elites would desire and expect (?). Time, weather, and dragon wars would certainly take their toll. I just wonder if the colored stone effect could justifiably be pushed even further. Love the dedication - it's producing good results.
The light of the souls drawn in by the erdtree being reflected in the stone of Leyndell reminds me of how the structure of enir ilim is formed by petrified bodies. It seems like this order and this cycle is represented in godhood. Since we know the creation of Enir Ilim predates Marikas ascension. I think with her she created this new form of creating structures and building her civilization. This time in the form of light emitted by the erdtree and gold.
My guess is that this colors correspond to the colors of the status effects as well. Mottled Necklace (0,+1,+2) talisman can be found at 2xNokron and Ancient ruins of Raugh. That is how Leyndell connects to the eternal cities and the hornsent, as there was an eternal city in Leyndell. However wiki says one of the Nokron locations is accessible from the four belfries from where Farum azula is also accessible. This rainbow thing connects a lot of dots. And i am not sure but if status effects = outer gods, than they all hated outer gods, farum, eternal cities, Leyndell, the hornsent... even if the connection is more delicate they all link to marika with this rainbow thing.. Also almost 100% sure that Charm talismans tell the whole story. I mean Stalwart horn charm (0,+1+2) locations are ancestral shamans x2 and bonny gaol. Ancestral followers have to be something very close to shamans and nox eternal city stuff different angles of worshiping of the Greater will... Clarifying charms -> Nox story, Immunizing->hornsent story (i believe they used shamans for tree seeds) and Stalwart-> ancestral followers and shamans stories. The fact that the talismans share form suggest things happened simultaneously. The stories about the nox, the ancestral followers and the shamans

@@Coast2CoastFlyin "Thine" means "yours", she is talking to others in that quote.
Leyndell being drained of colour like Farum Azula is something I did not anticipate
this really reminds me of how folks used to think roman statues were always that white and grey but turns out they were meant to be painted as well.
really fun irl influence that from soft is clearly drawing on to make leyendell feel so much more ancient and lived in
Edit actually am watching through the video and you mention it heck yeaaa!
I'm of the opinion that Leyndell was covered in ash when the erdtree was burned the first time, hence the grey.
Truly makes one wonder why Enir Ilim is covered not only in the same ash, but nearly identical leaves as the ones found throughout the Royal Capital.
@@BXRNT_TOAXT maybe Leyndell burned before the Land of Shadow was hidden away?
@@BXRNT_TOAXT probably because Messmer was shown burning the shit out of everything in the cinematic trailer - and at one point could've done this to Enir Ilim as well before ultimately retreating and sealing it. They also hint that the Scadutree was probably more akin to the Erdtree at one time, giving its own blessings much etc etc - so maybe had golden leaves too.
@Halfgnomen The gigantic piles of ash everywhere especially toward the elevator would certainly suggest SOMETHING went pompeii mode
@@ScumMageInfaI think that Melina did successfully burn the Erdtree during her war with Marika (as the Gloam Eyed Queen) but many trees, such as redwoods, actually benefit from burning
Until you went back to showing the unaltered originals, my brain started telling me the city always looked so colourful. Fun discovery

It blows my mind that this much effort and layering went into lore for a game like this… AND how original the presentation of fantasy themes feel (because they aren’t derivative of Tolkien)
You could make an entire expanded universe with a book series’s, tv shows, movies.
I can’t stress how rare and well thought out this entire world is 👏🏼
There are quite some tolkien inspirations here and there though

This immediately makes me think of how color is often an indication of power; for example, the blackflame loses its godslaying abilities after being bleached of its red color when destined death is sealed.
Amazing observation. I guess it shows that the golden order has been fallen for a long time now already
Maybe color is tied to divinity, and the somber stones' absolute lack thereof is linked to their ability to cut down gods -or maybe most of the lore is vague enough that you can say anything about this game-
@@TehCakeIzALie1I thought that too, probably to wash out all color in life is a metaphor for removing all power from what is divine/formerly powerful
From wikipedia:
"In the first book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900), the walls are green, but the city itself is not. However, when they enter, everyone in the Emerald City is made to wear green-tinted spectacles. This is explained as an effort to protect their eyes from the "brightness and glory" of the city, but in effect makes everything appear green when it is, in fact, "no more green than any other city". This is yet another "humbug" created by the Wizard.[2]"
So, I'm of two minds on this:
1) Gold absorbs sunlight, that's why all the roofs are painted over with gold in a way that doesn't necessarily seem ornamental, more functional.
It amazes me that even after so long, there are still new things to discover and theorize about!
Btw great work on the video!!
that city really do be tarnished nice
(Also not dissimilar to what is said of Marika as she is "no where to be found."))
Finally, when Jerren promises to crush both her frame and her primal glintstone is she felled.
There's maybe some symbolic statement made with the only thing at the end that's still vibrant in leyndell being gold, and marika's eternal order?
Perhaps it could represent how her Order only allows beings of Gold to exist and thrive without being subject to a genocide, enslaved or manipulated.
Well in real life gold doesn’t tarnish… take that however you like.
Everything else fades and becomes “Tarnished” while only the gold remains pure and unfaded by time or calamity.
how fitting that even in the bricks' restored state, when viewed from a distance all the color seems to blend into golden hues
The colors are all on the “warm side” of their spectrum which lead to that effect 😊
tthis supports the throey of the 'dappled' colours that signify true order , Hawkshaw did a colour video i'm sure you'd appreciate it, it makes this rainow city so much more fitting for the lore! good find scum!
Yeah I think Hawkshaws theory is so good most other creators accepted it as part of their own ingame canon
Every one of your videos is a huge, mindblowing breakthrough.
I can't wait for this to fins its way into the hands of a "Pre-shattering Mod" dev, if you'd let them, of course.
@@yarro7428 The lore is mine to share when I find it- never to own!
I thought the paint would be uniform on the bricks, but it reminds me more of Opal. When you shine light on opal, it fragments the light in blocky colors like the bricks shown. Beautiful texture and amazing discovery!
the city in rainbow stone colours does look quite natural. Thanks for this
ALL QUESTIONS ABOUT METHODS ETC ANSWERED HERE :)
The first images I show are NOT edited in ANY way (If you look in the Dung Eaters room you will see the rainbow pillars they are tremendously obvious)
I ONLY changed brick work that already had rainbow texture; I simply enhanced the colours already there for the first 2 methods
In my third method, I forgot to show which was the original and which was what I imposed- So at 11:20 - 11:44, the TOP is the part I am fixing up using the bright rainbow stones, and the BOTTOM is the original texture. I kept the brick like texture and simply imposed the rainbow stones over the equivalent colours on the original texture (They each lined up, though it is very hard to see when editing like I do, unless you're using shading techniques)

The color theory of Hawkshaw makes these finding all the more interesting.
This game has so many secrets left. Thanks for finding these things!
Your video about Miquella is one of my favorite and your other findings become more and more engaging
Nice work!!
I would love Hawkshaw to comment on this video. His color theory is one of the top Elden Ring lore videos
"The color theory": Colors in the game that are obviously meant represent things are meant to represent things.
OMG WHAT A REVELATION
But those are whole houses and not brick by brick).
mans stared at so many rocks they started telling stories like fallen leaves
@ Yea I think the restraint was warranted. Still a great result and I think very plausible!
This is a good representation of the cauda pavonis in alchemy both visually and lore-wise.

It fits so well. Some amazing work here
That first outro song I immediately was like, this HAS to be the academy, and then I looked back at my phone and there it is. Masterful!
Very interesting theory… unfortunately, I don’t think it was intentional. Using desaturated “rainbow” texture instead of plain gray is very popular in 3d rendering especially for stuff like rock or glass, notice how it’s usually used in contrast to the pillars and ornamentations which historically would be made out of sandstone or concrete, using rainbow textures is just a way of making the wall look more textured and less repetitive
thank you for making these videos, loved the music choice 💛
Maybe Leyndell was subject to an Eclipse in the past, draining the color of the walls, much like the guy who made this connection to Farum Azula (One side of the city is completely grey/whiteish, even the trees).
For those seeing this video late… you really missed out! He did a live foot reveal, with some real nice feet pics. A pretty impressive tier list of best feet (better than Rusty’s) and he talked about how the feet are the key to everything! It’s wild… I didn’t know the statues had so much detail on the feet specifically, or that the more “holy” a character is the more attractive their feet…
This dude really went full Tarantino here you guys missed it! What a crazy turn.

Absolutely random thought, but:
I'd REALLY like to see either Fromsoft or Remedy develop an interpretation of SK's The Dark Tower series into a, ahem, souls-like or Control-esque game (or more appropriately, games).
This reminds me of roman statues being imagined as plain marble today but were originally painted with bright colours. Edit: Seems it reminded you too lol
For some reason it reminds me of Wizard of Oz yellow brick road and emerald city.
Holy moly fantastic video!

They probably sealed the doors and windows to stop all the ash lying around from getting in.

@ScumMageInfa like a dream come true! Thanks my man, looking forward to these future plans. Although I'm now wondering how you find the time to do everything, it's an awfully ambitious set of goals you're working towards.
What a beautiful city! I hope no one buries it in ash!
Literal brilliance!
Beautiful music
This is almost as fabulous as Infa himself.
Nice theory. ❤
Hmmm... good work (a lot of work, too).
Beautiful.
I wonder if the faded paint was meant to represent the partial iridescences that would’ve existed in a gold paint on the bricks.
Beautiful
The light of the souls drawn in by the erdtree being reflected in the stone of Leyndell reminds me of how the structure of enir ilim is formed by petrified bodies. It seems like this order and this cycle is represented in godhood. Since we know the creation of Enir Ilim predates Marikas ascension. I think with her she created this new form of creating structures and building her civilization. This time in the form of light emitted by the erdtree and gold.
I would love to see this pushed even further. I still feel it is a bit dull. Even if it looks silly, I bet those bricks were incredibly vibrant.
Ideally I would like to have incorporated the glowing effect from rainbow stones- But alas, I am not quite there yet in terms of know how.
SLAYYYYYY leyndell SSSLLEEEAAAEEEEEYYY
