I loved this book as a kid; as an adult, the film was true to the original story. Christopher Walken's version of the story is spectacular!! (I read this, one of my favorite childhood books, to my little niece and nephew. I don't know how much of an impact it made for them, but I had some teary eyes as I got to the end.)
I didn't really grow up with this story when I was a kid but its still awesome ..... Christopher Walken is freaking hilarious at reading out children stories.... RIP Mr, Sednak
I wish I could like this multiple times. Christopher Walken is awesome, Where the Wild Things Are is awesome. Combined, this is the most awesome thing ever. At least for the month.
In the 1986 Fresh Air interview with Maurice Sendak, he describes how he based his wild things on older relatives who used to come and sit around waiting for dinner, saying things to him like "I'll eat you up!!". I couldn't help but notice how much he sounded like Christopher Walken. Maybe because one's from Brooklyn and the other from Queens, but it was quite endearing.
You didn’t pick up on the fact that the moon was only a quarter moon and then the next page it is a full moon. This place really spins faster than the rest of the earth. Wild thing, I think I love you!
I freaking love this! Listening to it in bed. I was named after this book. I want to quote my favorite line but they're all, individually so good. Omg this is fantastic.
"Smiley McDuckfeet." "The devil one, kinda looks like George Wendt. Which is--that's nice, kids love George Wendt." My week is made, and it's only Wednesday morning.
Awesome! "The duck foot girl is sitting next to Evil Ernie", "The devil one kind of looks like George Wendt. And that's nice. Kids like George Wendt." You go, Christopher!
I live in a scary scary city in in the United States...Albuquerque..... But Mr Walken... You are you are not only one of the finest actors in history but you are a scary scary scary man.... Got to love it.....
Imagine the amount of work that went into this. They managed to take a three minute children's story and drag it out for nine and a half minutes, with references to suicide and murder, sexual innuendo, and endless irrelevancies. The only thing missing was any emotion. Hilarious. Best thing since Peter Pan Live!
Is this a guy named Chris Howard’s impression of Walken? How do you know? This isn’t Walken but I feel it’s odd for them Not to mention it’s someone else :-/
I am 42 years old. And I'm not sure the correct year of copyright maybe 67 but it's definitely older than me. And when we grew up we grew up to brutality. I love the story I can say it I can read it so good. My favorite. The eye of the beholder (Maurice Sendak) has a such beautiful imagery perception, that was and still is Embraced as a legend in my family. Passed down to my kids. Read it to the elementary students when researching child development. And for some reason every time I buy the book it disappears. Don't know why anybody would not ask if they could have it or borrow it in the anyway great book
I guess it's been mentioned already . . I reckon it's a very nice Walken impression rather than the man himself, there are plenty of guys who do it this well, many here on RUclips. Has even more merit in my mind for that reason. Anyway, nice vid and a favourite book of mine from 40 years ago!
@JaneGoesExploring Consider how Sendak's "Bumble Ardy's Birthday 9" cartoon on Sesame Street does the same thing: reward misbehavior. Very interesting!
I'm pretty sure it is Walken. Watch his video "The Three Little Pigs" as read by Christopher Walken posted by TheRadioAteMyTV. The man is truly bizzare!
"...and, there's a Bear (strung up)... I assume, Murdered, maybe a Suicide, I don't know..." That's awesome!
Mike Drop right there.
This is the part of the video where I was really hooked in
I will always remember The Deer Hunter ....
OMG....I DIED when he said that!
@@SpeakingSeriously YES! Me too ❤
“But kids are jerks.” 😂🤣
Hi that part too
Nope
And thats the moral of the story!😆
I loved this book as a kid; as an adult, the film was true to the original story.

I straight up died at "Ernie from Sesame Street gone wrong "🤣
My favorite part is his describing the pictures.
@lordvishnu was that an impression? I thought it was really him
same...describing the bear (first picture) made me audibly chuckle.
@@jffryh it's him. He read the three little pigs as well.
The best part is how he whispers "I'll eat you up" even though it's clearly in all caps with an exclamation mark
"Please children scooch closer. Don't make me tell you again about the schooching. You in the red, chop chop."
Cars Uncovered you in the red chop chop
animaniacs the reason i found him reading three little pigs
I didn't really grow up with this story when I was a kid but its still awesome ..... Christopher Walken is freaking hilarious at reading out children stories.... RIP Mr, Sednak
Thats not even him....
@@zipperblues6714not who? Walken? It is him. There’s a video of him doing three little pigs too.
I wish I could like this multiple times. Christopher Walken is awesome, Where the Wild Things Are is awesome. Combined, this is the most awesome thing ever. At least for the month.
"I assume... murdered. Maybe a suicide."
In the 1986 Fresh Air interview with Maurice Sendak, he describes how he based his wild things on older relatives who used to come and sit around waiting for dinner, saying things to him like "I'll eat you up!!". Christopher Walken... one of the scariest monsters of all time teaching kids to conquer fears ... love it !
"Oh. Those are flowers. Don't know why they have bug ears."
"Who are these bastids?" gets me every time. And, of course, the rhinoceros with the goat "kind of spooning him a little in amazement and shock".
Best line
You didn’t pick up on the fact that the moon was only a quarter moon and then the next page it is a full moon. This place really spins faster than the rest of the earth.
Wild thing, I think I love you!
Thank you! You lit up my night. Love especially the intermittently blurry photos of text. Hilarious.
Subtlety is the name of the game when it comes to Christopher Walken impressions. Well done!

"And it was still hot"
Best wedding ring engravement ever.

Christopher Walken has enhanced my childhood.
5:57 "Mabye a suicide, I dunno hes got a stool" BAHAHAHAHAHA thats amazing
I freaking love this! Listening to it in bed. I was named after this book. I want to quote my favorite line but they're all, individually so good. Omg this is fantastic.
Little bastids.
Sheer brilliance! I wish all my children's books were read by Mr. Walken!
"i don't know where these people are coming from...but he's by a tree...and he looks like he needs help." looool
"Smiley McDuckfeet."
"The devil one, kinda looks like George Wendt. Which is--that's nice, kids love George Wendt."
My week is made, and it's only Wednesday morning.
Awesome! "The duck foot girl is sitting next to Evil Ernie", "The devil one kind of looks like George Wendt. And that's nice. Kids like George Wendt." You go, Christopher!
My 3 y/o grandson LOVES this.
I believe it's just an incredible, spot on impression. If you go to his profile you can see a video of him giving a book reading.
". . . one of them king sticks."
Walken's genius is often in his asides.
Thank you for a much needed laugh!!! I'm a teacher and I've always wanted to read a book aloud like this!! lol
I live in a scary scary city in in the United States...Albuquerque..... But Mr Walken... You are you are not only one of the finest actors in history but you are a scary scary scary man.... Got to love it.....
Spot on! I like how you narrated the illustrations...awesome, if you made books on tape i would never read again.
"But kids are jerks". lol "The goat is kind of spooning him." lol
"and again theres trees in the water . . . ITS CRAZY!" hahahah classic
I love his reading of the children's books.
One of my very favorite books to read to kids. Love Christopher's version LOL
I've never read this book before and I had to watch this for my Literature class... I like this version a lot lol
It’s a picture of Max standing in his room next to his bed. He looks mad.

"Where the wild things..are"
Utterly brilliant. Just a fantastic reading of a "classic."
That was great. I would call it a lesson on how to read a book to a kid. I can't wait to read this book to my grandson.
Christopher Walken ROCKS this book!
Ernie from Sesame Street gone wrong, lol
Max got the crown from all the wild things.
"He's by a tree and looks like he needs help"...I'm rolling!
I love this book and it was someone's favorite.
One of my favorite childhood books, narration is hilarious ❤

OMG Chris Howard is a genius!!! This is the greatest thing I've ever heard!!! :)
Is this a guy named Chris Howard’s impression of Walken? How do you know? This isn’t Walken but I feel it’s odd for them

so awesome, ladies and gentlemen, the great Christopher Walken
When he called the goat thing a "goat bastard" I fucking lost it!
I crack up everytime I play this video because of how Walken reads this book. It brings tears to my eyes......LOLOLOLOL.
"oh those are flowers. I don't know why they have bug ears" lol!!!
This is the best thing I've seen in freaking ages...
"He's being fancy with Ernie", too funny
My favorite line!
this is bloody brilliant!
10/10 best impersonation ever

Thank you Chris I needed a good laugh.

This man is THE BEST EVER!
“...And again, there’s trees in the water it’s crAYzy! I don’t know who would put trees in water...”
Much better than that horrifying movie. Thank you Mr. Walken for restoring my childhood.
LOL I love Christopher Walken's voice! Thank you for sharing.
I love these names he comes up with for the monsters.
I was never scared or creeped out by this book as a kid
I dunno why I'm feeling uncomfortable now. Christopher Walken is awesome
That discomfort may be a call for shadow integration.
Rest in Peace Maurice. I hope you are now where the wild thing are and having a wild rumpus yourself
I guess it's been mentioned already . . I reckon it's a very nice Walken impression rather than the man himself, there are plenty of guys who do it this well, many here on RUclips. Has even more merit in my mind for that reason. Anyway, nice vid and a favourite book of mine from 40 years ago!
LOL This just made my day. I've can't stop laughing. And this is the sixth time I've listened today.
His explanations of the illustrations is the best part IMO lol
i don't even care if this isn't really christopher walken this made me laugh so hard
My kids loved this story. This guy reading it scared me.
Sounds like Christopher Walken to me. Why do some people assume it isn't?
The thunderstorm in the background pretty much makes this for me.
@JaneGoesExploring Consider how Sendak's "Bumble Ardy's Birthday 9" cartoon on Sesame Street does the same thing: reward misbehavior. Very interesting!
Possibly the best video on youtube.
"there's a big-headed monster that sorta looks like Ernie, from Sesame Street, ... ah .. you know ... gone wrong"
This is brilliant. Whether or not it is CW, it's brilliant.
"The goat is kind of spooning him a little in amazement and shock!" 4:48
AYE LOVE THIS THANKS POPS
" Who are these bastards?" LOL It's a good thing I previewed it before sending it to my students. Hahaha!!!
RIP Maurice Sendack. You will be greatly missed.
Okay who did this impression? It's freaking amazing.
I'm pretty sure it is Walken. Watch his video "The Three Little Pigs" as read by Christopher Walken posted by TheRadioAteMyTV. The man is truly bizzare!
It's the actual celebrity reading it :)
Oh my goodness! This is perfect.
