Sometimes to avoid copyright, pieces are played at a certain speed, often the correct speed and then digitally sped up so that the video is allowed to stay up. However this piece is public domain so I think this is the actual speed.
This version saves this piece for me. I used to think it was far less interesting than Arabesque no.1 until I heard this version that does it justice from every aspect.
Why oh why did I come here? To hear this piece I've been banging away at for a year only to find have been playing it wrong....new challenge for next year. Hahaha!
I was just sight reading some of this and playing it adante tempo, obviously realising it needed to be a bit faster so I search up what others play it as and... I never imagined it to be this fast
Quite a peppy version but it is marked Allegretto scherzando. Masterfully played by Ciccolini. Playing it for a church prelude, tomorrow, definitely a tad slower but will try to aim for this sort of spirit and lightness.
No one could recompose something similar to this. Even if it was slightly same, no one could do it. These composers are geniuses! We should admire them..
Well we hope it went nicely for you, I had the chance to do arabesque no2 as my first contest piece a while back, but I opted to do a pair of solfegettio and golliwogs cakewalk. Or recommend learning them because they’re overall just fun pieces :)
Being musically satisfying has nothing to do with being easily singable or with very decorated harmony...

This summer, I had to learn this beatiful pieces... (no idea why I never played it before) And while practicing this, always after the ending of this second one, it came to my mind immediately that would be nice to start Liszt sonata right after this... hmmmmm... :) like these two last "G" could be already first "G" in Liszt... so called "extended Arabesque"
Many of those were written around the same time as the impressionist movement took place. Though Scott Bradley's music isn't very impressionistic at all.
@@bored_person What are you talking about? These pieces were written 50 years before Tom and Jerry appeared. The Arabesques were written in 1888-1891. Tom and Jerry first appeared in 1940.
and I imagine sown fields of wheat, reapers, flowering meadows, green trees, Sunny day, butterflies and birds flitting from branch to branch . Everything breathes life ... A sort of sketch of a summer Sunny day :)
i found a video once on here that a woman posted of her little kittens playing, one of whom was in a small kleenex box . He and his siblings were cute and funny....and she used this piece as the background music. :) it fit well! so now every time i think about this song, i connect it with that cute cat video. lol
I love this piece... so much... and @muffinsarelife1 I agree with you, but only about the beginning and later on when that musical idea is repeated. I like to take it up to that speed towards the end. I also tend to use the pedal a lot for this..... is that bad...? lol
i'm teaching myself piano & have a question. do you think it would have been easier to learn the second arabesque by Debussy if you had not studied the first one? that is, do you think you could have learned with less difficulty the second arabesque by Debussy if you had studied and learned it before studying the first one? approaching something as new unique and interesting facilitates learning, obversely, difficult learning experiences can complicate later learning experiences. any ideas here?
1 is in technical terms definitely easier. Although if you're not very good with 2 : 3 no 2 might be easier. (But of course, no 1 will give you practice at 2 : 3 which will help)
I will be playing this song for my examination but I am still not clear about the 2:18 part. Do we need to make a new speed for 2:18 part? I.E: from 104 to 88. ^^"
Yes, it's marked Meno Mosso. This pianist ignores it, as he also ignores the piano marking at bar 19. Brilliantly played of course, notes-wise but probably too quick for allegretto and misses some of the expression.
most people would argue that Arabesque would be equal or even more difficult technically to play since A1 has 2 vs 3 rhythms. A2 is just as challenging in tempo though.
The best pianists can put as much emotion in as they like, no matter how fast or slow a piece is performed. I'd blame it on the recording that not as much of the emotion is captured - and besides, I reckon this has been performed with the perfect amount of emotion in it. I understand what you mean, but I must also add that Debussy intended for this piece to be performed very quickly, so there's no fault in the pianist for doing so. Still, I see where you're coming from, and it's a totally valid opinion. That's just my take on it.
Agreed. He batters through this like there is no tomorrow. Verging on bashed. lacks subtlety and it doesn't have a very playful quality to it either. Not sure if it's a thing with Ciccolini - playing pieces very loud and at 100 miles per hour, but heard similar in his playing of Liszt. Also heard him play Chopin Nocturnes and they were's very felt.
Hey, I don't care that you plagerized from wikipedia, however, the youtube law people might get you for it. Amazing vid by the way. Check out mine if you have time. It's not this, but its pretty good. (in video responses)
Ah, I don't know, that kind of music doesn't touch me. Even some song on nintendo and super nintendo are more touching, overwhelming... and we are talking about little midi sound 8-bit. That piece sound like someone playing piano very well, and that's it. I guess I will always prefer Chopin, it doesn't matters how hard it is or if he is a genius or not... his music simply get through my hearth, my emotion, me as a whole I couldn't say the same here but this is only my personal view point.
I love this recording, but it seems like Ciccolini ignored a lot of the dynamic markings. I mean, it still sounds good, and he's expressive in his own way, but he's not playing what the scores says at all.
Oh dear I thought this piece was played 10 times slower than this... Back to the piano I go...
Sometimes to avoid copyright, pieces are played at a certain speed, often the correct speed and then digitally sped up so that the video is allowed to stay up. However this piece is public domain so I think this is the actual speed.
Same...
hahaha but honestly to me this rendition feels a little too hasty...
its a little fast. especially the eighth note triplets
This is way too fast. It's allegretto, not presto.
This version saves this piece for me. I used to think it was far less interesting than Arabesque no.1 until I heard this version that does it justice from every aspect.
I totally agree!
Listen to the one recorded by Debussy himself... it's even better!
Why? The harmonies, melodies, and rhythms are the same. Interpretation shouldn't be a reason to dismiss a composition.
@@ilcaliffo9967 no disrespect, but his version CLEARS any other I’ve listened to. It’s SO skillful and expressive, man.
Oh I love the lightness of his notes. so playful!
Why oh why did I come here?
To hear this piece I've been banging away at for a year only to find have been playing it wrong....new challenge for next year. Hahaha!
Michonne OMG I LOVE TWD
How is it going now ? 🤣
I was just sight reading some of this and playing it adante tempo, obviously realising it needed to be a bit faster so I search up what others play it as and... I never imagined it to be this fast
Yes also me,I thought it most slowly
Quite a peppy version but it is marked Allegretto scherzando. Masterfully played by Ciccolini. Playing it for a church prelude, tomorrow, definitely a tad slower but will try to aim for this sort of spirit and lightness.
This was one of my pieces when I studied piano many years ago. It was challenging, , but a pleasure to play
This is one of the prettiest tunes of Debussy.
notaire2 I unfortunately am struggling to hear the beauty, what makes it beautiful to you?
Piano with Jacob It’s like I am walking outside in a beautiful fantasy world
Depends on my personal taste.
I wish there were no coronavirus outside.
@@pingshiyu you should listen to the original version recorded by the composer himself...just beautiful and way better than this
The phrasing, emphasis, and interpretation for this piece is just superb. Almost sounds like it's inspired by the Arabian Nights.
His triplets are so clean. I'm so jealous
No one could recompose something similar to this. Even if it was slightly same, no one could do it. These composers are geniuses! We should admire them..
I love this piece so much.
so catchy and bouncy. thanks for uploading this!
@2:17 is my FAVE part!!! ❤❤❤❤
I feel like it’s sounds something more from Children’s Corner.
It does like the snow is dancing almost
I like the butterfly and cat on the grass^^
나이트스카이 ?? Lol
mad respect for pianists man, i'm a cellist
I love the ending. It's such a fun yet gorgeous sounding piece.
Debussy was such a genius. I'm loving the 16th note trills.
This is so beautiful ❤
This one is way underrated.
My teacher just gave me this piece and I'm wondering what went through his head when he made that decision
It seems so difficult but it's beautiful
Well we hope it went nicely for you, I had the chance to do arabesque no2 as my first contest piece a while back, but I opted to do a pair of solfegettio and golliwogs cakewalk. Or recommend learning them because they’re overall just fun pieces :)
Same Bro also asking myself why he picked this I Just played op7 no1 Chopin and now He picked that seems wayyyy harder
Not as Musically satisfying as Arabesque no. 1. But, still sounds cool.
Twotwomilkcats
I like this better but hate this interpretation.
Such a nice contrast between the two. I just uploaded both :)

This sounds more like a suitable ringtone to me than the other one...oh well.
And I like it everywhere
Sounds like a soundtrack in Disney animation.
Yep, that's the mood for me. Or even Tom and Jerry playing cat and mouse.

difficult to catch that colorful feeling, which is so good here.
so lovely, and so happy
Thanks for the score.

I first watched this sheet on my hands, i said, IT MUST BE EASY, then came here to youtube and listened to the speed, and wanted to kill myself.
I thought some parts of this sounded Chinese. Great song!
Debussy borrowed some chords from Chinese music when he wrote.
Sydney T Must be the pentatonic scales
Yes! And there is pretty much evidence of Chinese traces in so many of his works, like Cloche a Travers Les Feuilles.
Good playing! 👍🏻
Very nice piece, reminds me a bit of Chopin's Etude 'Ocean'

what?? this one is easier than the first one?? can't believe it! (i'm studying the first at the moment)
Interesting
Très sympa de mettre la partition
i didnt know this is from debussy!
I am studying both, and this one seems harder.

0:46 and then
?!
shhh it's not that bad. look at the lark from glinka
Divino wow obrigado
@KeiraLively Yes this is a little more difficult than Arabesque n. 1
Reminds me art Nouveau architecture
Question. Which arabesque is the easiest? Arabesque 1 or 2? Thanks
1 ^_^i have played before,not too hard
+waiwan chan okay, thank you
1 is in technical terms definitely easier. Although if you're not very good with 2 : 3 no 2 might be easier. (But of course, no 1 will give you practice at 2 : 3 which will help)
1
one for sure, and it's the superior piece
I like debussy song
It doesn't quite sound "très léger" as Debussy indicated but it is still an interesting interpretation - however rather temperamental.
looks like almost everyone in this comment section has been playing this piece way too slow lol
Is it just me, or does this also kind-of sound like the Prelude from Le Tombeau de Couperin by Ravel?
Arabesque no.1 I like better. They are very different, tho.
I can respect that, it’s pretty hard to compare the two. I didn’t realize there even was a second arabesque, everyone only plays the first one!
I will be playing this song for my examination but I am still not clear about the 2:18 part. Do we need to make a new speed for 2:18 part? I.E: from 104 to 88. ^^"

It’s like Arabesque no 1 the easy one then Arabesque no 2 being in the middle and Clair de Lune the hardest
most people would argue that Arabesque would be equal or even more difficult technically to play since A1 has 2 vs 3 rhythms. A2 is just as challenging in tempo though.
Idk why but some of the phrases remind me of Chinese folk/ celebratory music, especially the ones at Chinese New year.
I don't like it in this tempo. I prefer a much slower, softer version with more feeling.
No I agree , with tempo there is a loss of emtions you can put into it
Judit Hauber nope. look at the tempo markings. This tempo is perfect.
The best pianists can put as much emotion in as they like, no matter how fast or slow a piece is performed. This sort of reminds me some of Gottschalk's pieces.
Let's try to just stop arguing about the piece and just enjoy Music as it should be enjoyed.
2:17
this one is more difficult than the first one because i studied the first one
Well done! I just uploaded this too :)!
i think it sounds btr F-FF at 2:02 the way he played it as opposed to Debussy indicating P.

I love this recording, but it seems like Ciccolini ignored a lot of the dynamic markings. I mean, it still sounds good, and he's expressive in his own way, but he's not playing what the scores says at all.
