@@dutch24yeah that and not the fact this video is complete horseshite. The cobra manoeuvre or dynamic deceleration can be used defensively to make attacking jets overshoot, they don’t lose altitude and it certainly isn’t used for landings.

First of all, the airforce don't land on carriers, the navy does.
Second of all, no one does this for a landing, a Cobra is used to bleed energy forcing an overshoot for the enemy plane, giving an advantage in the control zone to win a dogfight. No one's gonna do this risky maneuver to land their plane, you're not only damaging the plane, you're also putting risk on the people on the aircraft carrier. Just land normal, and safe, you're landing on a carrier so it's gonna be more difficult, but it's possible. Btw the game is called DCS for those who somehow thought this was real.

That's actually false. It's never been used in a dogfight and if it is its usually a last ditch effort. If you do that in a dogfight you would normally just make yourself a big target for the enemy. It's mainly used in airshows.

The "Cobra" isn't used for landing in real life scenarios, it's an evasion technique used to rapidly slow the aircraft in the hopes the aggressor will overshoot. As stated by other people the suspension wouldn't hold under such a landing.

It can be used, since it looks sick as fuck, in real combat scenarios its pretty useless since it's easily noticeable and can be countered by using your cannons. But otherwise it's used to slow down the aircraft making the enemy speed past you so you get behind them. 🤓

Its crazy aswell this game was released all the way back in 2012 yet looks amazing in even todays standard. Although there probably were graphical overhauls its still very impressive
😬 Considering where we're at with AI generated imagery, that's kinda worrying. The only realistic part about this clip is the physics. Don't get me wrong, it's a very accurate sim, but the graphics have aged enough to be quite noticeably fake, I'm just surprised that some aren't picking up on that.

While the maneuver itself is correct and done this way it isn't done right before landing but done in areal fights as an "airbrake" to get behind an enemy. Or until now only at airshows.
cobra maneuver is also really dangerous as it is very easy to overshoot and enter a flat spin.
It is not used in actual combat to get behind an enemy. That is what modern culture tells you. The truth is (like in “Top Gun”) if you are to use a cobra while directly in front of the opposing aircraft, they can easily take you out with a missile or guns. You are more likely to die doing a cobra than a normal turn.
However, you are partially correct that the Cobra maneuver theoretically could be used in combat- but not in an offensive standpoint to get on the bandit’s six, but rather a defensive standpoint if you are ALREADY on their six but about to overshoot.

@@fishingninjahat’s not how it works. Inertia still carries you through the air, and air brakes are very inefficient. Also, killing power and then starting back up can take up to half an hour. Also, the maneuver shown in top gun is the kvochur bell maneuver. Not the cobra

@skusky8502 blud, the Su-27 has its wings seperated from the horizontal stabilizer while the Su-57 has its wings way closer to the horizontal stabilizers. 2, where do you see internal weapon bays on this aircraft? 3, the air force doesn't land on carriers or amphibious assault ships, the navy does. they only have tailhooks for emergencies (air force).

Not the US Armed Force…the Cobra is a maneuver forbidden by the USAF, Navy and Marine aviation due to the high probability of stalling the engines (especially at low altitude); making collision and crashes more likely. Special permission is required (such as during air shows) for pilots before leaving the tarmac

1: The air force doesn't land on carriers, Navy does.
2: The cobra maneuver is not used for landing and it's not even it's main purpose. Some will say that it's used for dogfights but that's also incorrect as it's been proven useless. The cobra is only an airshow maneuver and nothing else.
3: very few aircraft can successfully perform a cobra, most of them being russian and thanks to thrust vectoring.
4: this one is out of language used but Air Force is a term mostly used for the USAF, as other countries chose another terms to define their aerial fleet. The jet shown in the video is an SU-27, which is russian and would NOT land in a carrier, as it's not meant to do so. That would be it's navy variant, the SU-33

You can on unstable aircraft like the su 33 by disabling something known as a flyby wire (basically a computer that’s keeps an unstable aircraft stable) allows to pull manoeuvres like this however they can only be performed at low speeds around 300-200 knots as any faster would damage the airframe and most likely take off the wings.

Well if you watch the original video done by the grim reapers the gear was damaged and had collapsed.
Dcs does simulate gear damage.
This is DCS (Digital Combat Simulator). The Cobra maneuver is a post stall maneuver originally made by a soviet test pilot. The Cobra maneuver has never seen combat and is only ever used for show due to how dangerous intentional stall maneuvers like this can be. It isn’t useful. Also, pictured on the left are Su-27s, on an American Carrier.

Could be doable but not recomended, as its extremely dangerous.
The only problem is that it'd break the landing gear on touchdown. The su-33 shown here is fully capable of hovering when its nose is straight up but control is limited, the forward speed he keeps throughout allows some control but this would never be done irl

@@badgerrr8381 you would most likely be remembering wrong because no navy will let pilots do this, a normal carrier landing is difficult enough so nobody wants to up the difficulty and the risk for no reward. You might see the blue angels or another aerobatic squadron doing crazy things in the air but never on landing because it's on take off and landing that most aircraft crashes happen. Also the maintenance crew would literally kill the pilot if he did this

The Cobra (or Beat Parry for those who know) was invented by accident but then found to be useful for close range air combat. Not for landing. On a carrier you are much better off just catching the wires. And with how modern air combat is, the Cobra is delegated to a parade maneuver for now

The Airforce does not use the cobra maneuver, it has a possibility of damaging the plane and since its a version of post-stall they have a high chance of stall. You are trying to perform a cobra landing in a flight simulator which represents the Amaral Kuznetsov cobra on a su-33 except you did not use a su-33. This landing maneuver is almost impossible in real life making it useless (people died). The original cobra maneuver was not made for landing but slowing the plane down during dogfights, leafstalls, etc.
Edit: what you did was less like a cobra because you are supposed to be using your plane like a air flap to stop, not lifting like a vtol. Only a few people have attempted, high chance of death, high chance of crash, high chance of getting demoted, high and a chance of failure.

1) The Air Force doesnt land on aircraft carriers, the Navy does and 2) they do not land on carriers like this. That’s incredibly dangerous to the pilot, the aircraft, and the carrier and the sailors on board
