I have just heard this recording on streaming service. It is Haydn at his most inspired. And Savall and the orchestra plays as possesed. This is quite an experience!💯👏
This is one of those cases in which I don't understand how I've never heard of this recording until now. Love Haydn, love Jordi Savall--I even liked his Beethoven symphonies. Yet I somehow managed to miss this record completely. Thanks for the heads-up!
Thank you, Dave. The only non-vocal version of this work I have known is for string quartet, and try as I might, I didn't much care for that version. I'm glad to learn of the orchestral version. Wesley (By the way, I've been missing Finster and Mildred of late; I hope they're doing well).
Savall had a nice Creation too. His Mozart was all right he did the late symphonies and some of the iconic serenades but his Requiem was pretty good. His Beethoven symphonies are Ok . Some movements he did really good in and in some aspects are pretty disappointing. But they at least aren’t as dreadful as the Hanover Band cycle. Eww. Savall really excels in Baroque and Renaissance music like you said. My favorite disc by him is his Bach and Vivaldi Magnificant and Concerti. Great coupling of concertos and two splendid performances of two of the greatest magnificants ever.

I love all three versions of this masterpiece, including the one for string quartet.

And now, could you please recommend a reference recording for the Oratorio version? All your suggestions are excellent, thank you!

This is one recording, I wish I would have purchased as a digital file, so to remove the annoying spoken parts in between the gorgeous music....
