Hell, birds do it for flying. My own father hurled me into the pool to teach me to swim. He was ready to come get me if things didn't go well and there were others there as well, and I had the floaties, but sometimes you gotta give that nudge or the wee one will never even get brave enough to try it out.
mom is right there with them.. not just dragged into water and left on their own. Brings them back up to surface for air so they figure that out. It is NOT just like getting tossed into the deep end alone ...
Zoos are prisons. Make no mistake. Just because they're allowed out of their cells from time to time makes them no less prisoners. No crime, no trial, locked up for life...bang.
@@maxwelll1978 I don't really like zoos because they are caged up in unfamiliar habitats, but some species would become extinct if it wasn't for zoo breeding programmes, then again you have to ask is it worth it if the creatures are going to be caged all day! I do think zoo care has improved though!
@@maxwelll1978 :sigh: Did you not notice the part where it was explained that the otters are both rescues? They can't be released back into the wild because they became dependent on their caregivers while they were recovering. They can either be in the zoo or be dead -- which would you prefer? The goats, meanwhile, are domesticated animals. They don't exist in the wild.
Goats: we were told there would be treats involved, but instead you bring us to your weird glass basement with these watery ass cat dog thingies. You've got some splainin to do, hooman.
Yeah, the goats it was kind of obvious their handlers were giving them food treats. Seemed more interested in their hands than the otters. This video is more about marketing than anything.

Wow! Now that's enrichment! Never heard of a zoo taking animals around to see the other animals before; super-awesome. This video also brought back good memories - I got to play chase with the otters at the Oregon Zoo one time. 😁
I saw a 5 year old spontaneously playing tag with a pair of otters at a zoo in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The kept it up for more than a half an hour before the kid's parents dragged him away. He was having the time of his life - the window wall was much longer than this one and he was racing & reversing direction without warning, but the otter's always flipped over and were right there with him no matter how he tried to gain on them. He was shrieking with joy every time he pivoted and so did they.
This face: 3:06 awww... Clearly both the goats and the otters had a great time! Sea otters are so fun. And the babies... omg, little muppets. I love how no-nonsense the moms are when she teaches the babies how to swim!

It is so nice to see that she takes such good care of the animals and stimulates their curiosity and entertains them so they aren't bored and stuck in a cage. It's really cute that you would do that, bringing one kind of animals to visit another kind. The interactions were most definitely fun to watch, plus some lucky visitors would get a much closer look at the animals walking around.
I was visiting a river on the northern Oregon coast and a river otter was swimming, playing, and diving with the children there just like it was one of them. One of the neatest little moments.....the kind you just keep with you.
Yes, but Mama Otter knows the water is survival for them, food, protection from predation, shelter, transport, etc. And otters instinctively hold their breaths when the water starts rising up their face. Did you notice how she undulated, dragging the pup back above the water far more often than she would have needed to do, so that the pup would learn to catch a breathe when its face broke the surface? It is instinct to do so, but apparently they need to be put into the situation where their instinct will kick in automatically.
My grandparents taught me how to swim this way, kind of. Grandma stayed a fair distance away in the water, and after a few minutes of me deliberating, Grandpa just pushed me in. I learned to swim!
We live by the Ohio River. Growing up, I saw River Otters on several occasions. Last week I was house sitting for my son, who lives 4 or 5 blocks from the Ohio and a few yards from one of its tributaries. I pulled up and a large otter ran across his backyard. When I reported this to him, I found out he’s gone his entire 30 years believing Otters were strictly a marine animal. That boy has been animal-challenged his whole life. Well into his teens, he thought goats were a type of sheep. He’s otherwise very intelligent, just perpetually confused about animals. 😂
Goats and sheep are pretty closely related though, they are in the same subfamily and even further in the same tribe, so i wouldnt say he is wrong. He's just looking at a bigger picture.
LOL! I grew up in MI, and had never traveled until I was a mom. We took our son to FL, and I was shocked to see real flamingos. I thought they were just fake pink birds people stuck in their yards. People buy them and fill someone's yard up with them as a joke!
Love all animals species. They are so adorable and important to our ecosystem! Pls protect all animals, so that our future generations will still get to see them! 👌👍❤🥰😍🤩
What a beautifully designed Otter exhibit! I love how you can watch the Otters underwater, and that it shows how the flatness of their tails works as they swim! Terrific!!!
Spenser T that’s how they teach them. They have to teach them the body movements necessary to dive for their food. That how most animals learn to swim. You put them in that uncomfortable situation and they just go with it and learn.
I just realized this video predates Covid-19, and the goats seeing the otters had nothing to do with the zoo being closed for pandemic. They were simply having a good time. This realization simultaneously cheered me up and depressed me.
this is so nice of them....i watched anothr video where they took a female elephant to meet a beluga whale at an aquarium. she looked really interested and happy....so nice of them
