Daler Rowney Aquafine Vs Simply Gouache! which is best?

it's finally time to play with some gouache again! a lot of you had recommended giving the Daler Rowney Aquafine and Simply paints a try. so, I thought I'd pop them into one video for you to enjoy!
But what did you really think??? 😂😂😂😂 I found this really interesting and entertaining! Thanks for your absolute honesty.

Like painting with toothpaste! I also think it would make a terrible toothpaste too!

You amaze me how you manage to make such amazing things out of absolutely anything, no matter how poor the quality is. You’re a legend lady xxx
Dont be upset with the second one thought, as horrible as the process was, you still made a fabulous piece, and nothings to stop you redoing it with a better quality paint later, its not a waste 😊💚
Thank you Lyra ❤️ hehe it's just one of those things. Sometimes a supply just isn't quite right for the job! I think I may redo the moon dragon at some point in the future ( with whichever my favourite gouache is)
Both paintings were beautiful Katy,yes you could see the Daler Rodney ones they seen to split the colours as they paint,as if the white was repealing the blue.Very strange.I don’t like them much at all.I find the same with the Watercolours as well.Very lack lustre.It’s a shame as they used to be a good brand. Royal Lanikle has come a long way since it first came out.They have kept their prices reasonable ,yet the quality has improved no end..Not sure about their papers as I have not been physically shopping for years. .Nice to see you back again 🥰
Thank you Christine ❤️ I'm glad you enjoyed them both! Those simply paints were just no good for detailing! I haven't tried the simply watercolours so I can't really say. However, I have tried the paint markers, watercolour pencils and regular coloured pencils and they have been fine.
Indeed royal and langnickel have come a long way, I used to pick up cheap acrylic paint (back in my uni days) and it was fine to work with. I'm not sure about the paper either, but most physical shops I've been in only really stock Daler or winsor and newton!
Oh dear I have the Simply ones, I’m not sure I want to try them out now! I bought mine at Dealz, which is what Poundland is called in Ireland btw. Still your painting looks lovely, but side by side you can tell which is the better paint. The swirly galaxy dragon is fab ❤
Thank you Sonya O ♥️ ooooh no! I hope that you have a better experience with them than I did! I think they would be ok for blocking areas or even maybe watering them down as a watercolour.
They were for me so very difficult to work with in the style I work in.
Good to see that gouache from the Nov '19 Box is still going strong! lovely work 🐉

I'm not sure but I got the feeling you didn't like the Simple paints so much?! Having said that I love the painting you did with them. It would be lovely to see that painting in a higher quality gouache? I bought some of the Royal & Langnickel neon inks & was really pleased how well they worked.💜🐉💜

I think that I may reserve a special bonus round for a favourite gouache to redo the moon dragon! Royal and langnickel make some decent, affordable stuff! Great for beginners and those on a budget!
Enjoyed both of your creations - especially the galaxy dragon! Sorry to hear that the simply paints idsappointed you so much. Despite the struggles with the material, the outcome is still beautiful.
Just toss these paints into trash - what's the point on being annoyed about 'em? Creativity should be fun, after all.

It was just awful, they were awful. 😂 ooooh poor Katy.. I think I wouldn't have made it to a final piece because of too many frustrating 😮..
The galaxy dragon I really like. The little dots do give such a nice effect. Outstanding!
Me neither, I easily get in to little huffs with myself as it is, theres no chance I would have used them on a final piece😅
Thank you Vanessa and Lyra ❤️ it was really tough using the simply paint. It was just so hard to work with, I knew when I swatched it there would be challenges. However, I thought maybe putting it to a painting may bring out a hidden potential!
I'm glad the galaxy dragon was a gut though! The aquafine gouache was very nice to use!
When you squeezed that yellow out of the tube… 🤢😵💫😱 I felt the disgust in my body. Why are these paints even made? Such a waist. You were very brave! 🐉
Thank you M-A-S-S ♥️ that yellow was gross wasn't it? The whole experience with the simply paints was just disappointing from start to finish! I did give them a fair test though!
I bought these today and it was 35 Euros but i was painting with some 8 euro cheap ones and still managed some good art
Damn, I bought Daler Rowney Gouache simply 24 yesterday, so I could start with Gouache and I was like: this seems awful and translucent, figured out they were just probably terrible or I started to use them wrong. It's a little sad that they are terrible because of the investment I did in them. They were not cheap here
I remember swatching them and throwing them straight in the bin 😅
More Katy dragons woop woop! Really puzzled by the Simply paints ... it's totally possible to make decently priced gouache that still performs okay, so why put out such a poor product?

Yeah, the simply paints puzzle me too as I've demonstrated with the R&L paints. I'd say children's poster paint are comparable to these simply ones lol
