    In this video you are explaining floor load including slab weight. But under dead load we assign self weight to view to whole structure. I do not think so it again is calculated.only ceiling plaster and floor finishing loading should be added.

    • @CivilBlackBox
      @CivilBlackBox  3 года назад

      There are two ways of designing slabs. One is where you consider slabs to be plates (not a very efficient way) and the second is where you consider slab as floor load. In the latter case you need to add all the loads, ie. Slab Weight, Floor Weight, Ceiling Plaster etc to calculate the floor load.

    • @CivilBlackBox

      1. Yes, floor load option is for applying slab floor loads.
      2. Self weight is assigned on all types of members (eg. beams, columns, plates, solids or physical members). Anything that you have modeled will be given a self weight.
      3. For applying plate loads you will have to first model the plate.

    • @CivilBlackBox
      @CivilBlackBox  4 года назад +1

      To be very fair, it depends. STAAD is a great solution when it comes to professional structural designing. However, there are many similar solutions out there. In my opinion it is better to stick with one and get expert in it. There may be nuances in a software but if you know a software in and out you will most likely be able to handle all the scenarios even with certain shortcomings. No software is perfect. Remember that. Hope it helps.

    Difference between floor loads and plate loads? What should we apply in our structure?

    • @CivilBlackBox
      @CivilBlackBox  4 года назад

      Both are almost the same in the sense that both end up giving similar end results. However, floor loads should be used when you are designing only the frame structure i.e. Beams and Columns without the hassle of overloading your structure with Plates to represent slabs. If you are using plates as slabs, plate loads are the way to go. In my opinion, it's better to just analyze the frame structure without the slabs by using the Floor Loads option in STAAD. Hope this helps!

    • @binayaksamanta863
      @binayaksamanta863 4 года назад

      @@CivilBlackBox ok sir but if we analysis the structure without plate then how we will get slab moment for designing?

    • @CivilBlackBox
      @CivilBlackBox  4 года назад +1

      Slab designing is completely different from Beams and columns. In slabs the main role is the floor loads only. Hence, a slab can be easily designed using manual calculations as opposed to beams and columns where different loads create different interactions. Slab loads can be mimicked by Floor Loads without the need of actually modeling the plate.

    Shouldn't the Y-range of the floor load be applied to Minimum 3 to Max 6 in order to design the 1st and 2nd floor beams instead of only assigning 6m height which in this case, in my view wil only consider the top portion of the structure.
    Thanks I really enjoy watching you.

    • @CivilBlackBox
      @CivilBlackBox  4 года назад +1

      In my example I clearly state that I just wanted the loads on the Top Floor. Of course changing the Min and Max to 3 and 6m would load both the ground floor roof and first floor roof. However, that was not my intention in this case. Hope that clarifies things. Do check out my other channel too and support me there as well. bit.ly/2QLUWR3 Cheers.

    sir, you calculated the self-weight of the slab member, instead of that if we assign the slab member and then assign self-weight to the whole structure? Would this be correct or not?

    • @CivilBlackBox
      @CivilBlackBox  4 года назад

      Of course that would be correct. The point is not to overdo the analysis. Making plate members just for the purpose of self weight application is kind of an overkill. The main load taking elements are beam and columns anyways. So why bother increasing the analysis for that? I hope that makes sense.

  • @harshitchauhan1792
    @harshitchauhan1792 4 года назад

    Sir there is one small doubt... In the calculation of DL you have taken into account the tile wt. And screening wt. If in the analysis we have been given the value of floor finish.. then we have to include it separately or this tile wt and screening comes under floor finish?

    • @CivilBlackBox
      @CivilBlackBox  4 года назад +1

      If you have been given the value of floor finish, that would in itself mean screeding and tile weight (or whatever floor type). However, if you are still in doubt do a manual calculation and check if the value of screeding + tile is close the value of floor finish you have been provided with.

    but in plate load, there is no option for one way distribution then how to deal with it?

    • @CivilBlackBox

      Plate load distribution will depend upon the mesh size. When you use Plate elements we go inside the Finite Element Method. Hence, there is no more the case of one way and two way distribution.
