This is crazy addictive to watch ! If I lived near there I would want to pack a lunch.. and maybe some extra snacks just for good measure.. and just make a day of it. Awesome video ! Thanks ! from the US.. : ]
WOW, never saw this river in winter before!! I've be to Charny many times, as this is the town my mother's family settled in and still have many cousins there. My grandfather had worked for CN. As a child I once saw the river this angry, BUT it was with the old dam. I can see why it had blown out. It happened after the highway was built next to the river and the ice had no place to go. (According to my uncle who's family has lived in the town from it's founding.) I had thought they would never rebuild it.
Well, the truth is that it is not awesome, because there is to much water, the ice is crushed in little piece and we cannot see well and the last, there is a lot of water spray or fog that wet the camera and hide the see. So the actual place is the best place. But i have somme other option that i will try next time. See you then
1) Why can't I stop watching this. 2) Does debacle mean something else in Canadian speak. I don't see a debacle, just nature during spring thaw with a man made obstacle. 3) I have looked up debacle after posting 1 and 2, I did not know it meant or ever used debacle to describe tumultuous break up of ice on a river. Learned something new, I wonder I forgot to make room for this new knowledge.
@@ChristianBoutet I did wonder if there were river-watchers, predicting factors (as you mentioned) & time-proven formulas! Maybe even news reports on what to get ready for!
Well, a lot of people watch the river but for other pupose. Specialy for flood. This is a big river (see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaudière_River ). As a example this site ( www.ssrc.cobaric.qc.ca/publique_index.php ) provide useful information during spring time. . As a thumb rule above 800m3/s, the ice go for sure, but it vary a lot, ice can pile up an make a dam (worst scenario) or it can go with less water if there is a big push make by incoming ice from upstream. . Well very hard to predict but we have better information than before.
I hope they enjoy the see. I am sure they were not aware of the danger. If you look closely at the pilar of the bridge, specially the second and the third from the left, you see that they are bigger than the other one and not in piece of rock as the first pillar. At the beginning of this millenium, ice comme in bulk, bigger than what you see here, and displace the pilar of the bridge, but it stand still. They repair it by adding concrete, so you see that they are bigger than the other. I was at work that day, so no video, but it can happen again, especially this year with the early lower temperature. If its stay like that this spring will be spectacular. Looking forward for nice picture of that spring event.
@@ChristianBoutet I will be looking next spring for sure. I just found this yesterday and have never seen anything like it being from Texas. Fabulous footage and I have enjoyed it very much. C’est ce bon!
Well, today, 21, we start the last winter's month. Usually the Débâcle happen in Spring (start mars 21) it can go late in April, but with the change in the weather those time. I don't known. We will have to monitor closely the weather. To follow
Here is Robert Graham's comment on this : Debacle | Definition of Debacle by Merriam-Webster Definition of debacle. 1a : a great disaster. b : a complete failure : fiasco. 2 : a tumultuous breakup of ice in a river. 3 : a violent disruption (as of an army) : rout. I was wondering what the video meant by 'debacle'. I didn't know the word is used for a 'breakup of ice in a river.' Now I do.

J'y vais souvent et depuis longtemps et j'ai pu constater à plusieurs reprises, l'importance des glaces pour les Beaucerons qui se sont installés trop près de la rivière.

So mesmerizing!! I can only imagine how loud that is in person!
The ground sound too
Ça doit être impressionnant à voir surtout au bord de la rivière 😳😳 que la nature est belle et surtout quelle force
Effectivement c'est un spectacle grandiose et plaisant à regarder car il annonce la fonte des neiges

AWESOME job making this video!!! Thank you for sharing such an interesting event!

Ca c’etait l’hiver du trios metres de neige a Boston, Vermont, NH, etc., pour de la plus partie en fevrier.
You could sell seats on that deck and make some good money from us who love this stuff! Thanks for sharing!
thank you for using a tripod.
I would love to see this video played in reverse. That would make an interesting spectacle!
It's fun couple of second and not much
Ouvert avec le train VIA, score bud! Then seeing the cracks appear, wow.
I think Earth, Water and Ice love this shit...fun allowed!!!!
That resevoir or channel the ice was flowing into started to fill up quickly 😳
There is a fall after the dam (see others videos), and the river flow go to the Saint-Laurent river, that is able to take a lot of water ans ice
Very nice video of ice going over a waterfall, but what's the debacle? Perhaps you meant spectacle.

How about a close up from the railing?
Not really good
pls more video
How much notice do you get when it's time for the ice to break up?
Not much, there is too many factors. I usely take a week or 2 too folow the process and not missing it. It's depend of the temperature sun and rain

This is the debacle, all the ice go at the same time, push by the incoming water and ice.
