  • Hello everyone and welcome to another video from Heavy Mining Equipment. In today's video we will see the blade replacement on a Caterpillar 18M3 motor grader. The previous blades had a lot of wear and the screws were worn out so removal was difficult. Let's watch the video to see how the works went.

Oh my, I've seen Lazy backyard mechanics that are better. So much time wasted lifting the plates, with cranes, that are not that heavy as the install them with one hand. No Cleaning No Torque Wrench and NO front plugs reinstalled. Honestly if this is the normal work being done then it would be better not to show them as they are quite embarrassing.

I agree with you, but the rain was approaching, and the grader had to be finished as soon as possible, so we didn't have time to clean the moldboard and screws. Of course, we tightened the screws with a torque wrench. We had to lift the blades with a crane because one blade weighs around 100 kilograms, why struggle when we have a crane.

It would have only taken a few minutes to power wire brush all of the dirt off of the surfaces before installing the new blade. Very lazy mechanics! I have worked on equipment that if I did that kind of work, you would have gotten a pink slip.

You guys are already getting beat up over cleaning the surfaces, so I’m not going to say anything else about it. But to be fair, if you have a lift or crane available, picking loads off the floor, you probably should be using it to save your back. So good job on that part. Please don’t be discouraged from posting more videos. It’s cool stuff you’re working on.

Should’ve taken some time to clean the dirt off. You pinched the dirt in between the cutting edge and the mold board and it’s gonna come loose. A little extra time saves you a lot later.
