I typically use bat + bottle, first I use my bat first, I use shiftlock to make a swing like mech, second, when I'm done hitting, I use my bottle to damage the smiler more, that's how! :D
On mobile to keep your range, I suggest you use the shift lock. Not only does it help with your parkour, it also helps you doge and attack the players on the opposite team of you.

You can get more weapons if you are close to any weapon stands. There might be humans nearby to help. Plus, you can just dodge or run away. It depends if the smiles would want to get you or not.
Free kill tip for VIP: When you find an infecting smiler, just spam knife on them, it requires like 60% durability but is a free kill as knife doesn't stun
Packed ice has big range, faster recharge and 1 more use but branch has more damage and longer stun making it a great weaponwho seeks stun and damage. I personally have both of them and im using branch
I prefer packed ice over branch imo, it's quite literally just a more versatile version of it, it has good damage, good stun, a shorter cooldown period, a MUCH bigger hitbox, plus the extra durability.
