I enjoy giving a gift that the receiver knows was probably time consuming, and would be "too hard" for them to make. Most people don't have the time or the patience to make something like this. I am retired and have been sewing for 55 years. This isn't "hard". It's time consuming. That's the beauty of it.

Decades ago I made a similar basket using colorful magazine pages backed with glue and very lightweight fabric (gauze or similar). I still have it because I love how it turned out. I never thought to use fabric this way. Seems it will be more useful and durable. I definitely have plenty of fabric for this, including old jeans of mine and my husband's. Thanks for sharing!
Just 1 question, how wide and how long are the fabric strips before sewing them?

POSITIVELY ADORABLE! The idea of a plastic liner inside would be great for using with plants or just a basket to give support structure. I am always up for new ways to use those scraps. I think this would be great to make it fit quart canning jars to pretty up your cabinets, bathroom or sewing room. I want to make one for my water bottle with a long strap. This idea would be great to cover many ugly things so they will be PRETTY!
