  • Here is a 1971 Plymouth Scamp that I built using a resin body from Bandit Resin. The donor kit was the Revell 68 Dart GTS. Swapped in the slant six motor from Lindberg 1964 Plymouth Belvedere. I also used the dash from the AMT 1971 Duster. The front and rear seats come from the AMT 71 Charger and last is the resin wheels from Arrowhead Aluminum.

    Awesome build. Love the plain Janes. This reminds me of the Plymouth Valiant from the movie "Duel". That one is more challenging because its a 4 door. Love having my Saturday morning coffee and Musclecar models.

    Plain Janes are really cool. Yeah, I love the big, strong, best perf. cars, but there's something special about those cars. Last year, a guy made a plain Jane '69 Camaro convertible and brought it to a couple of shows. And I REALLY loved that car. I guess that's the reason I want to do a base Satellite.

      They get a lot of attention at shows. So many are cloned into an SS or Z28 and that is all we see at shows. My wagon gets a lot of attention because it’s a wagon.

    Great build!!! Wonderful subject matter and execution of the bashing. I have several slant six builds in the works including a '70-'71Duster, a '68-'69 Dart, a '75-'76 Dart Sport, an A-100 pick-up based on the Little Red Wagon kit, heck I am even thinking of doing a Mod Top '69 Satalite with a slant six. I love my muscle cars too but also love everything Mopar. Oh FYI the stock version of the '64 Dodge 330 comes with the slant six with an automatic trans. So you can choose between a manual or automatic depending on which kit you rob for the slanter.

    This is wonderful! i have a soft spot for these for various reasons.... i had a Duster Twister. 1:1 .. it was Missing a Shark tooth Grille...so had this Grille which got smashed.... i wanted a Shark tooth Grille anyway..... but ended up with this replacement.... if i had a found a Shark tooth it would have been over 10 times what i paid for the Valiant Grille like this...... i did find a smashed Sharktooth i thought i could fix and scratch build the missing bit... but they still wanted over $500 plus shipping.... so i gave up...... i have almost finished a 71 Duster Model..... had it since the 90s.... its almost done o will be one of my first reveals .... if i had this Grille i would have done it like my old Duster.... an acquaintance from the car hobby had a Scamp here local.... it ran low 14s and only a 318.!... he had worked on it of course a talented mechanic.

      Very cool! We had the chance to buy a 71 Duster 340 4speed. It was painted and had no A/C, manual brakes and manual steering. A real Muscle Car and this was back in 1995 and we could have bought it for $2400. It just needed interior work. Great car for a toy but not great in AZ as a daily driver! That is when we ended up with the 71 Chevelle.

I soon missed the Cougar... friends did warn me including the guy i swapped with.... said the Cougar is more you cruising in style ..but I did not listen.... but I do not lose sleep over it .... part of life and i will be one of the few in the UK to have owned a cool fast Duster.... many of my friends from my first Classic car hobby days still own there same first car....at least i have tried loads so more memory's.....my First Chance to own a Duster was in 98.... i had a Mustang 2 Ghia 302 (great car daily driver for 3 years)... it was a rare one! one of 33 only... made for the UK only right hand drive.... but it was still worthless! ... i had a guy in love with it with no cash who would swap me a genuine Panther Pink 70 Duster... it had a blown 383.... and a spare blown numbers matching 340 ...and loads of extra parts!.... and on top of that he offered 3 European Classics one road legal lol and now rarer than the Duster and Mustang Ghia .... my parents had the room for me to store the Duster but they would not let me store just the Duster..... so annoyingly i had to pass on the deal despite even back then knowing it was a swap in my favour...but i always though i will own a Duster one day and I did.. i have 100s of should have bought or swapped story's :)

    I was on the website a while back and the Valiant is still listed as available for sale, because I bought the 69 Plymouth Barracuda 2 door hardtop, that came with the body, glass, & interior tub, because I also have 3 of the reissued fastback kits to kitbash it, so it’ll have whatever wheels I put on it and save the recalled aluminum wheels for a different project I have in mind using the 69 GTX convertible kit & some custom parts to create a show car!!!

    Love your work your models are beautiful and I love your videos. I hate to correct you but the 340 was never offered in the scamp the only 340 A body Plymouth from 70 on was the duster . Now dodge did offer some 71 340 darts but only in Canada so maybe Plymouth put some in scamp'sin Canada but I've never heard of any but I do in the US no 340 scamp's were built. Now maybe a few cars got incorrect stamps on the vin but they had 318 engine not 340's . But man I really like your build. Have a great day and keep up the great work.

      Please don't think I was trying to pick at you I really love your work and I know you really research your work a lot I figured it was a mistake. I do have a request I don't know if you have ever built a volare roadrunner but I would love to see it . I have a few of them (models) my favorite being the 77 super pak version I just can't bring myself to build it because I spent more on that kit then I have any other kit. I do plan to cast a few of the parts in that kit and would love it if you would do a video on how to prep and build a resin kit or kit using resin parts. It's new territory for me . Again love your videos.

      @@robertvanderhoof5283 I took no offense. I love this era of cars but don’t always get my facts strait. Plus like this one I built it many years ago and brushed up on my info but missed that. I still have to finish that 70 Dart that I collected parts for along with a few Demons and a 72 Duster that is also started. I built a resin 73 Trans Am that has many step by step videos on body and prep for it. I have lots of resin that I have built and way to much resin to build. I actually started that resin 65 GT40 roadster I reviewed so I will cover some of that as well.

    Always a treat seeing a plain Jane build. In the modeling world that´s kinda exotic when most mainstream styrene kits depict top of the line performance versions (wich is great too). Also, it´s a Mopar A-body, wich makes it even better. :D
    Speaking of A-bodies: If only someone could do a new tool styrene 1965 Plymouth Barracuda...

    I have a little something I’m planning on doing one of these days and that is a’69 Barracuda hardtop based on the reissued fastback kit so it’s going to be just like what you’d see back in 1969, plus I’ve got a resin ‘71 Demon that’ll be kit bashed with the Duster kit underneath & a ‘60 Falcon body to bash with a promo model so I’ve got some projects ahead of me. One car I’d love to see as a resin car model would be a 1971 Pontiac Grand Ville hardtop & convertible as well as a Buick Centurion hardtop & convertible also from 1971, those would be gorgeous cars if done just right!!! But finding someone to create those cars is going to be a challenge because who’s up for it???

    Nice 'Phantom', *Raoul* ! I'm calling it a *Phantom* because of the *Rallye* *Gauges* -- the Scamp had the same instruments as the Duster and Demon. There was no *performance* version of the Scamp; 318 was the top engine choice. Additionally, the 3-speed manual would've been column - mount, as the floor shift was a Swinger 340 (including the rare Canadian Swinger Special 340s of '71 & '72), Duster 340, and Demon 340 only setup.
    I'm *not* bustin' your balls, just clarifying some trivialities.
    I *really* like how you bashed the Duster 340 instruments with the Revell '68 - '69 Dart dash pad and frame (e.g., the speaker and defogger details that the AMT kit's missing).
    I've had my eye on that *Bandit* *Resins* Scamp for some time, but ne'er pulled the trigger because of the work that's de facto necessary to replicate the Plymouth interior. Conversely, I could use the Dart interior, and build a Modified Production replica from it (say, 383, 440, or Hemi power ; maybe the 340). It'd be like someone took a '68 'LO23' Dart and cosmetically changed it for campaigning in M/P.
    Keep up the *great* work !

    • @johnhughes9019
      @johnhughes9019 2 года назад

      *ADDENDUM*
      I double checked my sources, and I'd discovered that the 3 - speed manual floor shift was, indeed, an option. I hereby rescind my assertion to the contrary.

      Thank you. I didn't have a lot of info on Scamps when I built this. Thanks for letting me know. I like to research the subjects but it's mostly for fun on my part. Don't know all the options for every year. It changed a lot back then. Plus I don't know my A-body Mopars that well. I just thought of a funny story. I was at a swap meet selling not needed parts from both of my project cars. This was about 15-20 years ago. (I have a 71 Fury Wagon and a 71 Chevelle if you haven't seen my tour video). My wagon was there in the spot along with both Mopar and GM parts. I had the rear from the Chevelle sitting there and a small sign that said "A-Body w 3:08 gears and not posi" Someone was looking at it and I heard them say that I don't know what I have because this is a B-Body rear and they used drums like that. I laughed as he was talking and told my friend that the suspension mounts should have given it away as it does not use leaf springs. He may have been talking GM b-body but don't really know for sure. I just know that it came from our Chevelle and I put a 12 Bolt in it!

    • @johnhughes9019
      @johnhughes9019 2 года назад

      @@TheMuscleCarModeler : That is funny, the axle/differential story. If nothing else, the 3.08/open should've been the clue.
      BTW, how's the quality of the casting of the *Scamp* ? It looks like a quality piece in all of the important areas (proportions, lines/panels separations, etc.) -- did it fit over the Revell Dart chassis & interior easily? Windscreen & backlight fitment okay?
      Thanks.
