Those are free easy bflats. Too bad there aren't recording devices, even now, good enough to pick the true sound up. It either distorts or filters the sound waves to make them smaller. We have zero idea how big the old voices were. A dramatic today would be a lyric. Opera is not the same.
Exactly. For instant people think Tosca or Aida are very difficult and dramatic, but they aren't. And try to find the soprano voice with this quality of sound - one living soprano. I don't mention tenors - it's even worse. It was a plesure to read your comment - you know what a good singing is.
If you like these sounds look up my voice teacher Mrcafiero. He is teaching these sounds. He studied with Tom Lomanaco who was a great singer/teacher in his own right. My teacher follows his method 100 percent. He is the only teacher on RUclips that post before/afters with super changes in the voice :)
@deeluxegal I agree with your evaluation, thank you maxo for posting this. Bing was an idiot to let her go. Only Farrell could sing like this; it is a toss-up between the two, what great voices!! I suggest that kgarmaker think about the fun he would have standing next to her when she roars off one of those notes. LOL
orovalleydude As a European, Bing favoured European singers over American ones; hence his overlooking and/or neglecting so valuable native values (Helen Traubel, Astrid Varnay, Brian Sullivan, Claire Watson, Norman Treigle and Beverly Sills to mention but a few).
This is a gorgeous voice without a doubt.. but to me, also a mezzo soprano.. Those High b flats sound like the end of the line, and are weak, compared to the rest of her voice.
Traubel was not a mezzo soprano. She was a dramatic soprano. There were a few notes that Flagstad transposed down as well. But she was not a mezzo soprano. She was a dramatic soprano.
What a great voice ! Grandiose ! Many thanks for posting this!
Elle chante le français d'une façon admirable! Quelle voix!
Incroyablement moderne ! Topissime 😍😍😍
Magnificent! I like the way she doesn't take a breath between "pitié" and "cruelle" up to high b flat.
Une superbe diction! La tragédie française!
Awesome!
A rare good emotive performance by Traubel.
Thank you for Varady's video. I've heard it with emotion now that her husband, the great Fischer Dieskau, passed away.
Wonderful . Power and expession.
Elle chante magnifiquement bien le français.
Glorious reading of this aria!
incroyable !
DIOS MÍO!!!!!!🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

She actually was a mezzo and changed to that repertoire later on. That in no way diminishes her vocal opulence.
Fort peu agréable,aigu compris.
