Interesting points of view Antony . I take dead off all trees . I open the citrus us in the center to let light in for more fruit . You have great tips and thank you for sharing . I dont prune my cherries , apple or pear and have had awesome production. A lot less work for my time is limited on earth and when i free up my time for other interest is rewarding . Great days you awesome teacher Antony . Sounded like live fire and was unexpected ! Peace and love
Thanks howie totally forgot to mention that. I always prune the dead and sickly looking branches. Also meant to put in the fact that pruning isn't just for production, it could just be to keep the tree the size people want. Not everyone has acres of space. Unfortunately I have to be methodical with my apple and pear pruning because out here, fire blight and scab are constant issues that love to pop up if the airflow isn't right. When the humidity is 90% and temps are hovering around 100°f (38°C) for a good 2 months out of the year, it just encourages all kinds of fungal problems. Growing resistant varieties and proper pruning is the best way to deal with it without having to resort to constant spraying. I've had more than one extension agent tell me growing organic apples, heck most fruit, is impossible in the southeast. I enjoy proving that statement wrong every time I harvest

When pruning consider topping high branches for tree "effective height" fruits you can safely reach. Unless you like climbing like me or like to live dangerously on the ladder. Great video!
@@PalmettoPrepared we don't have deer here it's too close to the city, you'll see one once in a while on highway, going north of Boston, but never in our yards. My neighbor had humongous trees that would block the highway noise, he'd cut them recentl. Now I have planted bunch of fruit trees, trying to help create a noise barrier and get fruit. Trucks downshifting is like a tank moving tru my yard. So yeah taller trees for me too 🤫
agreed, I had a plum that was getting over 30 feet and I my orchard ladder (nor a regular double ladder)doesn't raise up that high...so we topped it...actualy I over pruned it and it suffered last year...that said, this year should be great.
Spartans! Ready your breakfast and eat hearty, for tonight, we dine in hell! Good. I hope others learn something as well. This stuff seems so minor but it can be the difference between a handful of small fruit and 2 bushels
Loving the hat...i'm a hat fan and wear one most days...that aside I pruned way too late last year and pruned too much off ... my Peaches and Plum suffered, but my Pears and Apples didn't care and excelled. I can't wait to see how my peaches to this year, I should get quite a few due to over pruning last year...however I still need to prune for this year but i'm not home until April! argh.
If I was your neighbor I'd hook you up and prune for you. I'm already seeing other people pears and peaches breaking buds. Mine should be any day now. Supposed to freeze tomorrow night, Sunday morning and then get really warm again so that should do it. Last year the late freeze wrecked my pears and almost all of my peaches. Hopefully this year I can get some!
I don't but I really need to. Last time I tried setting it up, the system was so user unfriendly I gave up. I need to go look and see if it's easier to use
@@PalmettoPrepared I'll look for you. YT is just so censorious that I am trying not to give them my eyes. As soon as I'm over my flu, I'm going to go crazy on blueberries and my one peach, because you've reminded me!

I appreciate it
Excellent tutorial.
Thank you so much

Great video!
I like taller. Keeps the fruits away from the deer lol

Nah uh you are
Great info
Thank you!
@@PalmettoPrepared my pleasure
Ill be trimming my pears next week.
Great video and information.
Excellent. Hopefully we make up for last years late freeze that killed all my pear blossoms
@@PalmettoPrepared That knocked all my citrus back. Not 1 orange, lemon nor lime last year.
Yes you have to prune them to protect the branches from breaking
I should of added pictures of what happens when you don't thin the fruit and prune those smaller branches. Pear tree still has the scar
Well dine Palmetto. I learned something

Yes, always clean them.

Doin my best! Just hoping this helps out some people to increase the fruits of their labor. See what I did there?

Thank you my friend
Yep. At least twice a year for us. Late Fall and Late winter
I always do it right as the buds start to swell. Gives the tree that boost
Anthony, thanks!
