The Marvels will almost certainly lose money. Lsat time we looked at the characters and overall mcu plot that isn't going to draw an audience. Today we're looking at the political history of the actors and director to predict just how much messaging they'll shove in and how it's going to push the audience away.

I've a question that isn't political but moral - that fight scene in the trailer - that's a 16-year old Ms. Marvel involving herself in a fight amongst three adults, one of whom would presumably kill her. That seems off particularly for a Disney film - teaching kids to fight and use violence? Shouldn't CM and Rambeau have told her to get out of there?

Marvel's biggest problem with releasing mediocre movie after movie is that it's driving people to apathy.
It's anecdotal, but I know a good number of regular people, mostly with families, who used to see every Marvel movie the day it came out, but no longer do, if they even see it at all. They're not haters, they don't think deeply about the politics or 'cinema' - they just go to the movies to have fun. But they aren't really enjoying Marvel movies the last couple phases, and most have started just ignoring new Marvel releases altogether.
Meanwhile they're talking about how great John Wick, D&D, and Mario was. That's a terrible place for Marvel to be, and no amount of politics or rage baiting will help them.

It's primarily Phase 4 that has been the worst. As of Phase 4 they have been pushing this "Female Empowerment girl power" shit sooo hard and for so long, it's pissing a lot of the audience off. It's alright if female characters get introduced, that is fine, but to replace the whole original team with female characters when your audience is primarily male, just won't sit well. Especially when the females who are being introduced, and smarter, stronger and just better than EVERY OTHER male character. They're just nerfing all the male characters and buffing all the female characters just to make woman look more superior. Take She-Hulk for example, when they're training, Hulk throws a rock, then She-Hulk does the same thing but gets it that little bit further just to piss him off. Then when they are holding their body weight on the ground, look how Bruce is struggling so bad and She-Hulk is literally dancing with one hand. Not to mention how that show portrays men outside the main cast is bullshit.
Take MoM as another example. Look how nerfed Dr Strange was and look how insanely buffed Wanda was. They literally nerfed Dr Strange, in his own movie, to make Scarlet Witch shine in the limelight and make her look flawless in terms of power scaling. And they make Dr Strange incapable of literally doing anything whatsoever up until the final parts of the movie.
EVERYONE hates Captain Marvel. She is so arrogant, unrelatable and one dimensional. But instead of Kevin Feige or Brie Larson listening to the constructive critisicm of the character, what do they do? Talk about how "Misogynistic fanboys are in their feelings" and all that bullshit. It's extremely ignorant. This in my opinion is what's causing MCU's downfall right now.

They have already come out and said so. They are willing to take the financial hit now, with the hopes of financial gain in the future. When they say you are not the target audience and that these movies are not made for you, they are dead serious. I'm on your side, I agree with you but Disney doesn't! If The Marvels fully embraces the comedy aspects of WandaVision and Ms. Marvel...The Marvels would still be a box office flop, but it could actually be a much better movie than any of us expect if The Marvels' style of humour is smart and clever enough to go all the way in parodying what people dislike about the MCU and the M-She-U today. If a movie focusing on one comedic strong female lead is not good enough for Marvel and Disney, especially when it does not take itself as seriously as it should, then maybe a movie focusing on three comedic strong female leads who play well off of each other and are much better to watch together than they were apart, when that movie does not have to be serious at all and stay true to the spirit of Ms. Marvel, that movie will be good enough for Marvel and Disney to rise out of their doldrums. It is an ambitious idea that might just be silly enough to work, so if Nia DaCosta and her three co-writers have enough creative knowledge to write The Marvels differently from how she wrote Little Woods, then Carol, Monica and Kamala could have surprisingly great character chemistry for what little we know of them from Captain Marvel, WandaVision and Ms. Marvel. They might just surprise us all by being a diverse female trio of super heroines who needed each other to be entertaining, fun people to watch. April 17, 2023, 2:14am

On your point about why men and women don’t like these Marvel movies, I think a good analogy is, imagine MGTOW had a stranglehold on people in the highest levels of Hollywood, and true-believing producers made a gender-swapped version of Cinderella. Same story, but Cinderella is a dude with an evil stepfather and stepbrothers and has a fairy godfather help him get to the ball where the princess falls in love with him.
Would anyone actually watch this? Of course not. It wouldn’t resonate with women the way the actual Cinderella story does, and the Cinderella story simply does not resonate with most men on an emotional level the way it does with women. It would just be just like the WNBA - something people obsessed with politics want to exist, but none want to actually watch.

    • @gregowen2022

Precisely. It wouldn’t even be liked by most men who are actually into the whole MGTOW thing because the Cinderella story does not resonate with men the way it does with women, just as you have noted the typical superhero story doesn’t resonate with women the way it does with men. The only people who would go to see this gender-swapped Cinderella are ultra-MGTOW types who would feel morally obligated to see it once and praise it on the internet. This dynamic is exactly why Birds of Prey flopped, and why the Marvels will flop as well.

    • @ColinFox
      @ColinFox Год назад +1

@@bluelaser1012 I don't think you undestand the motivation behind MGTOW if you think they'd have anything to do with a storyline like Cinderella. MGTOW is about two things - Individual agency, and not requiring a romantic partner to feel whole.

To be fair, the Marvel movies are filled with one dimensional characters that hit certain heroic high points that resonate with people. I.e. Nick Fury is not really a well fleshed out character, he's just on screen to hit that "oh damn! It's Samuel L. Jackson playing Nick Fury with that Sam Jackson flair, I love it.." and the movies are content to basically leave it to that and certain.."he scowls and runs Shield like a bad ass" character traits. Black Widow is much the same, though I admit to having not seen the Black Widow movie. The well developed characters that have some sort of real arc are basically Tony Stark, Wanda and The Hulk, with an honorable mention to the Vision, since that's an easy mark to hit with the whole robot wanting to know what it's like to live trope. But by and large, there aren't any real surprises, the characters are about who they are at the beginning as the start, often just with "now I'm captain america" abilities. Aside from Guardians of the Galaxy, especially the second, which tells a supremely compelling story about found familes, sacrifices, where the characters are going through some real human stuff..Marvel movies are ALL about summer blockbuster explosions and superficial things that we all love to consume..and to think that it is somehow different now is not correct, in my opinion. The bottom line is a lot of us don't like the politics, and don't like that the superficial marvel films have been injected with superficial political messages that should be taken more seriously than the writers seem to take them. My two cents, anyhow.

was watching part 1 before, and the homework topic stood out to me along with the whole "it's not made for you" line that we've been hearing a lot recently.
My understanding behind Ms Marvel is that generally it was peek "it's not made for you" media, which people just skipped given the whole teen drama (see: Resident evil) thing doesn't exactly cater to to the main audience of marvel properties, even for people who did shove it on their to-watch list, it was also released around the time I recall some people being bummed out by marvel, along a sea of many other dozen properties which took off or where posting a new season, searching around, I see references to shows like the boys, stranger things, etc
Far behind on the MCU, I only got a TV for the first time in a decade last year, and was going to watch the movies from the top as I hardly recall watching the first iron man, but, seeing the modern state, struggling through a few eps of She-Hulk, it's just moved to the bottom of the "to-watch" list, especially vs the years of anime I need to catch up with.

To the point, I believe a few of the virtual signaling people hired her, but the higher up saw her as she's cheaper to hire than a name brand good director and have her piggy back with them to learn the ropes. Therefore allowing her to learn and then from there they can use in the future and she's able to direct movies with a better means of tools since she learned from the best.

I am on board with a lot of what you say regarding the preachy nature or Marvel right now. But I want to point out that Ms. Marvel was a surprisingly delightful series. I feel may people didn’t give it a fair shake. It has some cringy nonsense at points but it was overall well written and impactful where it needed to be. I do hope Iman Vellani doesn’t get tarnished by the state of the MCU.

You have quickly become my favorite youtuber. I often get exhausted when some of the channels I follow pump out content daily.
With you, I wish you’d pump out content hourly. (Admittedly, I’m in a honeymoon phase with your channel, and if you _actually_ did post hourly - we’d ironically have a Marvel situation at our hands. Oversaturation of content.)
Anywho. I’ve been let down by Marvel so badly the past two years that I kinda just wish that The Marvels will suck and the whole MCU burn to the ground. I have zero good will left. (I became a Marvel maniac after the first Iron Man. I own Marvel-everything and even when people began to heavily criticize the franchise after Endgame, I childishly defended Marvel. But. They were right, I was wrong.)
What concerns me is that if The Marvels manages to make a profit. The trailer looks inoffensive and I think that the reshoots (along with demoting Larson) and reschedules ARE because Marvel actually has taken the hint from the audience and toned down the homilies.
The political messages will be more subtle and director held in a tight leash.
And when the movie is inoffensive enough to gross passably, we’ll be hearing:
“YA’LL HATERS SEE!? FEMALE LED PROJECTS CAN BE PROFITABLE AND BLACK LIVES ÜBER ALLES!”

Initially, it was a success -- but they relied on an initial outlay of cash from the Federal govt to build the housing units, with no more promised or available for the upkeep.
Once thing started to get run down, the rent money alone was not enough to things maintained - and as more ppl moved out due to improper maintenance, the situation became worse and worse. Only twenty years after being built, they were demolished.
The architect gets a lot of the blame, but what was built was not what he recommended. The local government deserves the majority of the blame for what happened.

Chris Evans acting, helped immensely by excellent writing and the chemistry, made me raise Cap to Iron Man status. Chris Hemsworth nailed it as well...well early on before MCU ruined him after Ragnarok. Are they actors with wide range of abilities? No, but the casting of them took what they were good at and their range fit the characters perfectly.

I think another reason why it's going to fail is that ever since Endgame all of the movies feel so self-contained and easy to skip. Like before each movie felt like it was legitimately important and contributed to the universe. For example, Captain America 2 got rid of SHIELD which made the universe feel uneasy about the Avengers and led kind of to Civil War. Ragnarok made the Asguardians as a whole more vulnerable with Asguard and Odin gone which ment Thanos would be just that much more of a threat. But with Phase 4 onward you miss almost nothing skipping Shang Chi, Eternals, Dr. Strange 2, and even Ant-Man 3 since they all make it out ok in the end. And that's ignoring the shows cause most casual fans aren't really bothering with them considering how mid they all are.

  • @andrewnigo61

I love this take. The black and white clipping that you do is hilarious and I particularly enjoy the movies you reference it’s always fun to see if I recognize them and if I don’t then it’s just something else to look into watching.
But yeah, this looks like a bomb. And you know, I can’t help but feel sorry for all in involved. I can’t help but wonder if Nia Decosta had been able to work a number of years in the industry before being handed a project like this this then maybe she could’ve had a better handle on things and there wouldn’t have been all those reshoots, assuming it’s not a committee made monstrosity. But as it is, she may never get another project like this. Vellani might fade away like a lot of child stars and never get another break out role. Hell, I even feel sympathy for Brie Larson. Her main film was subpar and she’s had bad track records with interviews and audience connection but she can’t be blamed for the poorly written character of Captain Marvel, that’s all Marvel. I think Teyonah Parris is the only one that can walk away from this without a limp but that doesn’t mean she’s got stellar prospects after this either.
Oh well, I hope we can be pleasantly surprised and this film is excellent, but I’m doubting that even more now

    • @joyfulosity
      @joyfulosity Год назад +2

I actually think Vellani might be the only one who possibly gets anything from this, judging strictly off the trailer. While the trailer was.. whatever that was.. she immediately jumped out because she had an energy and hopefully talent that quite frankly neither Brie or Teyonah showed in just those couple of minutes. I personally think that she might be the saving grace just because people are going to like the fact that she actually seems to enjoy the role and be passionate about it unlike Brie and Teyonah that just don’t seem to. Just my own perspective, and I could 100% end up being completely wrong.

The Marvels is a lame 'Fury's Angels'... superhero fatigue is real, and the mergers-and-acquisitions of Disney and what they've done with them since buying them is disgraceful. They're turning Star Wars and the MCU which were both brands for boys and turning them all into female led properties. They bought Pixar for its technology and John Lassiter and they reduced a prestigious animation studio to making lame television cartoons and bad animated movies and ousted John Lassiter because he didn't fit into their corporate culture and had to be gotten rid of with excessive charges of hugging. Disney is pushing a message through their movies and streaming series and the public is slowly moving away from them because they no longer want to be preached to, they just want to be entertained and Disney has lost its way.

Thing is villain lady turns a split second before Ms Marvel drops in. It’s in the center of the shot. I can’t unsee it and that’s in their trailer!
