Changed actuator, actuator motor and checked wiring. Still didn't fix it. Took dash apart and replaced transaxle control module with a tested junk yard unit. Problem fixed and 4wd working again. Happy!
@@moyreyes3508 that's what I'd like to know. I think this guy got booted off RUclips because you can't reply to him or reply to him. Great video! Thanks for sharing. You showed the problem, how to get to it and install it, shared the part # with price and where to buy it,installed it and show the results,it doesn't get any better then this!😀 Thank you👍. I also wanted to tell you that I got my part in the mail and it onlt took 1 minute to installed,1min! thanks to you,👍
Great video, You helped me get the face plate off and when I pushed on the back of the switch the lights came on, I just made sure the plug was in tight and now all the light work and I have 4 wheel drive again, thank you.
Before I found this video.. Same problem on 99 GMC k2500 suburban...I would turn off the engine and cycle the key on and off 3 times to reset the service light and allow me to switch back from 4wd to 2hi. I'll be checking on the switch and probably replace it now.
I have a 96 silverado z71 sometimes my 4 wheel drive selector lights up sometimes it doesn't if i push my dash in hard the light stays on but comes off when I let go of dash any suggestions
@Steven Suedekum Your fix worked for me. Shifts perfect but the 2hi led does not light up even though that solder joint does not look cracked. Have not tried remelting the 2hi led solder connection yet as it looked good. Any suggestions to get that yellow 2hi led bulb to also function and light up again when the transfer case is actually in 2hi and functioning ok ? The other leds function ok and all leds worked before my resolder repair.
Got it back into two will high just by pulling the panel trying to remove it and the lights came back on and it automatically went back and now it works. I will install new switch this to make sure.
When shifting from 4WD back into 2WD; you must: 1.) place your transmission into neutral first, 2.) then switch to 2WD, 3.) then place transmission into REVERSE, 4.) role backward for about 20-feet or until you hear the 4WD disengage. -Have fun
I have a question for you . I have the push button 4x4 I bought the truck last week When I place the truck into nuteral and I push the button into 4hi it switches I can hear the motor and a click noise then the light stays blinking is that a good thing or bad??
I turned the key so the control buttons had power, shifted the transmission to neutral, then pressed 2hi and it switched over without a problem. Keep in mind that the engine wasn't running.
Can anyone comment- I thought you are supposed to be slow rolling (walking speed) with truck in neutral when shifting into and out of 4wd? Is working the actuator motor at a standstill hard on gears/parts?
i have a 1999 Tahoe sub 2low works 4hi works the truck will shift into 4low but doesnt want to move forward and i really do not want to force it ...any ideas ?

Great video. I replaced the switch and can easily see the shifting from 2wd to AWD and 4WD. Car runs fine. Except the service 4WD light still comes on. 1999 Chevy Tahoe. Do I need to see the dealer?
In my experience have a chevy Tahoe 1998 2 doors I fix the wire connection from the selector (t-case) to car arness, just cut off and make sure conect the right color s wires. In my case the conector was the problem, after that no more AWD service light ON and 4x4 works perfectly. Regards from Costa Rica !!

The Daninator my switch doesnt work at all but i dont get the service 4x4 light. do you think i have to replace the switch also or is it a more serious issue?
WHY DO SOME HAVE AUTO 4WD AND SOME HAVE A BLANK SPACE UNDER 2HI? I just bought a 99 1500 4wd and it has a blank space but I can press the button. Am I going into auto 4wd when I press that blank space? Also driving in 2HI the truck has less power than if all the lights are off as if nothing is active
The light on mine seems to shut off all the time, but that doesn't mean it's not still in 4wd. It still clicks back and forth even with the light not working. Is this what was going on with yours or is that different?

I tried a Dorman switch and it did not work. I am going with an ACDelco switch. hopefully it will solve my problem.

You may have a front axel actuator problem or possibly the shift motor on the transfer case itself. Also, check fuses for these.

Moop S mine wouldn't engage/disengage the 4wd. It was spotty at best. Something was bad in the circuit board.
