Along this same vein, I'd love to see a video on transitioning styles--going from one style to another without dumping everything you have and having to completely start over. Essentially, learning how to overlap so you can slowly transition or incorporate different styles into one.
Just love you guys. Cheers! ☕️

Valentina, I love your videos especially those with Jack in them! You guys are so perfect together! Also, I love the photos you show while you talk. It is so clever that you keep us engaged during your explanations by looking at amazing places to get inspired. You should reach 1 mil because there is no other person doing interior decorating like you do on RUclips. Congrats!! 🍾

Right! These videos aren't something that I can just put on in the background! I sometimes have to wait all day so I can watch them uninterrupted, because the pictures in the background are usually so spot on and engaging. I have learned so much about my style from these chats.

“Rusticity” is what Ralph Lauren calls it…stuff that’s been “lived in” and it has history or stories to tell…I love that you mix these different things Valentina!!! My style is not minimalistic but I like to help people discover, rearrange and build upon what they already have. Recently I worked on a “equestrian trophy room/den” …he had many, MANY horse racing photos to use as a gallery …and I never ever thought I would use orange in decorating but with some of the photo frames and a peach wool blanket, peach/beige Native American rug…I started to build on it and now it’s very cohesive and cozy with a vintage charm. 🥰

One thing I do to mix old w new, I take crystal items like candy dishes and ice buckets, and fill them with everyday items I need. So at my small vanity that I do my makeup and skin care at-I have orchids I got for my bday last week on one side of the sink; on the other side is a candy dish with a lid- it houses my beauty blender, tweezers, eye drops, eyelash brushes, etc. So all of the small things that I need all the time are contained and in a beautiful spot! So when I go to my vanity morning and night, it’s a little retreat.

My husband and I have inherited many, many vintage and antique items from furniture to Pueblo pottery and Navajo weavings to Fenton and Westmoreland glass. Since discovering your channel and other interior design channels I have been able to start displaying these things in a more cohesive fashion. There is certainly still a learning curve but I have been making strides. An example is my husband has a beautiful blue coin dot vase that we had displayed on our dresser. it never seemed to fit with the bedroom being warm tones. I recently put it in the bathroom which has a lot of cool elements and the vase just popped. Finally I found its home. Thanks for your tips and inspiration.

Love this. I love to mix modern with old. Always have. It’s very eclectic and original. Meaning no ones home will look like mine. Go to some homes and it feels like Ive walked into a catalog for a store....I don’t want that for me. They may love that, not me. I want my great great grandfathers typewriter next to a large modern vase. Or my great great grandmothers hand painted serving trays from Italy mounted on the wall next to a painting. That make me happy and is unique to my family story. Love this and would love to see more!

This is crazy , I was in my girlfriends moms garage that passed away, they had two lamps brass , all dusty . I ask what are you going to do with them ? She said trash. I was just out hunting for new ones. I was so excited she gave to me. I took them home cleaned the dust ,left the patina
On them bought some new shades. Each one was different. Her mom was 108 yrs old. One cord was cut off ,my husband fixed . They both worked. Like you said the mixing works. I wonder how many times she turned these on. They touch my heart.

Thank you for this video. I often feel like I don’t fit in because so much of my home is family antiques, from a large old ice box, to a drum played at the Battle of Bull Run, and a framed old feed bag from my family’s Mill. I’m very much at home with these items and can’t think of getting rid of them. I’ve also traveled to the former USSR during the Cold War and have brought back a lot of art.

I’ve had it reupholstered twice so far. He’s gone now…..It started out as royal blue sofa and rust colored chairs. I’ve made it a cool grey & black & silver side chairs! Now retired in Florida…the sofa is a crème color with a dark red side chairs. I picked the red from the Tiffany chandelier we brought down from Boston in our previous home. Love you guys! You guys are killing me! 🤣 I felt like you made this video just for me, yes I love my dining set, it's beautiful hand carved wood, pineapple carving on the two bases with claw feet, chairs are comfortable with tapestry material on the seats all in excellent condition after having it twenty years, when I saw the set my husband and I were engaged and so in love (don't worry we still are) we were in a boutique furniture store and I was in love the minute I saw the set, bought it that day. I guess that's why I haven't tried too hard to sell it, however it is on Craigslist for the third time but I am not holding my breath it will sell. Now that I have listened to your video I guess it can rest in my home for another twenty😂 I have all modern and wanted a beautiful modern plain table thought it would be a nice addition. lol

I love this video! Several years ago, I inherited my grandfather's wooden carved pieces and hadn't quite figured out how to display them in my house. Some are functional pieces, such as bowls and others are more decorative. All the more recent videos have helped me to dig them out, take a good look at them and move them around to where I feel they fit best. They are pieces that remind me of not only my grandfather who was an amazing artist, but my mom (his daughter) who I lost a few years ago. I smile every time I see one, displayed around the house. Now, I'm going to have some fun & see how they pair with newer items!

My style is more contemporary with minimal leanings, and I laugh, that I am actually mid century, literally! I have 2 items that I treasure that are not at all my "style". I have clock my parents got as a wedding present in the mid 1940's and a decoy duck which my Native American grandfather carved (and my brother and I played with as California children visiting our grandparents in Michigan). I was so thrilled when I learned that one of my cousins still had those decoys and was willing to share one with me! Although neither piece really fits my decor, I think I have made them work in my living room and they both bring me great joy. 💕

I love your videos!! You both are great!! Thank you for this one. I truly love decorating my home and I do try to make a story. As I was watching your video today I looked around at some things that are precious to me. One is an oil painting my mom painted. She was a wonderful artist! She had this particular painting hung in her living room. It’s a white Iris with a black background. I always admired it. She has passed and I now have it hung up above my fireplace. The frame is gold ( I love gold) but does scream the 80’s a bit. So it’s oldish or very dated actually. My mom always said you frame to the painting not to your home. (The rules may have changed )So this painting is still in its original frame and I have decided I will never change it. It looks lovely above my fireplace and I have several updated pieces on my mantle. ( including the vase you have in yours, which I got off your Amazon store, love it!!!!) Thanks again for your wisdom and advice!!!!

Thank you for taking on this topic! I live with furniture that has been handed down and struggle to find ways to use it. Some of the items will go as soon as the people who "gifted" them are gone-morbid, but you know what I mean! There is family pressure not to get rid of something that Granddad made by hand but it's so dated that it doesn't fit the color scheme/design scheme in my home. Some pieces have "lived" in closets for 30 years!! Appreciate your tips and tricks!

Jack you aren’t old next to your beautiful wife! You guys are so funny. This is the big reason I keep coming back to watch. It’s the way you explain getting to your own style. I love how excited you are as we are as excited about you two revealing your decorating secrets. Thanks for the book review too. I want more!

This video of old and new was helpful and comes at the right time for me. I just did a walk through of my own home and it turns out I have one antique furniture piece in each room...Yay success. I am currently turning a bedroom into my office/garden room and want to hang a vintage window frame on the wall. You have given me the confidence to go ahead with my idea. The hardest part is finding a simple writing desk/table but for now the extra long folding table is functional and will have to due until I find something else. I created a mood board on Pinterest thanks to your suggestion it has helped a lot already.

Maybe a topic for another video but it's something I struggle with...How do I incorporate family photos into my decor without overdoing it? I love your style and have been gravitating towards that for a while now. Family photos have me stumped though. So thankful I found your RUclips channel!!!

Valentina I just love you guys! I have also lived abroad and I absolutely love your approach to family life, and design. When it comes to mixing styles, and incorporating the best of your experiences you have this knack for making it look all so curated. You and your family live in a beautiful and mindful way. I love these little chats, and I share your videos all the time. I too share your dream that one day you will have a Target collection! Until then thank you for all the advice!
