Florida Keys: Overseas Hywy & 7 Mile Bridge Aerial

- Aerial of the Florida Keys featuring the Overseas Highway and the Seven Mile Bridge. We follow the Highway 1 with aerial footage from Islamorada to Marathon Florida. The original roadway from the Mainland to Key West opened in 1928 as State Road 4A, however there was a 41 mile gap from Lower Matecumbe and No Name Keys. When the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935 destroyed parts fo the Overseas Railroad, the bridges where retrofitted with concrete for vehicular traffice. In 1938 the highway opened as Route 1 and finally connected Key West with the Mainland.
The Seven Mile bridge is actually 6.79 miles and opened in 1982. The old bridge is now used for pedestrian and bicyclist traffic. In 2014 the Florida Department of Transportation approved a $77 Million plan to restore the old bridge.
We used the new X-Star Premium drone for this. We have done reviews on the picture quality which is much better than the Phantom • X-Star Premium vs Phan... . but this video was impressed with how it dealt with wind. At times we had very strong gusts of wind, probably about 25mph, and it the drone still remained very steady, and even against the wind was still able to maintain about 7-10mph.

Parabéns pelo vídeo!!! Um dos melhores que já vi, sobre essa estrada. Lindo e com muitas informações sobre a construção da rodovia e sua pontes!!!
Wonderful !!!
2 weeks ago I was there and it was one of the best experiences in my life. The adrenaline crossing the 7 miles bridge is indescribable. Very nice footage, thanks for share.
It is fantastic, very nice drive down to Keywest!

The dog looked happy the drone landed safely. :) Great video! I went down this bridge in 1992 but I was really young and don't hardly remember it.
Sudden traffic from India!!😁
#rajthackray
Went there yesterday for the first time. The smell of the sea was refreshing. 7mile bridge is marvelous.
wow, this is an amazing video ! You should really upload it at AirVuz.com! AirVuz is a platform for viewing and sharing drone videos. It's free and very easy to upload. It would be awesome if you uploaded your vids at both youtube and AirVuz.
I hope you check out AirVuz and become part of the amazing drone community we have built!
I wonder what Irma is going to do to the highway? Stay strong people of Florida. This is a big one.
I wouldn't be surprised if some of the highway washes away too. It happened to the Cape Hatteras during Isabel.
If you're a Floridian who doesn't love or has never been to the Keys....
There's something wrong with you.
and bucket list for everyone else far away :(
I wonder if this thing make you feel like your only surrounded by nothin but water then about any other bridge out there like I been hearing😶
Must be Quite a experience to walk along side this....
How the hell did they build this bridge?
I'll take the ferry please
Here because of Raj Thackeray
Great shots out there.... Beautifully done!! Nice job!
होय, हे शक्य आहे ! #rajthackeray
Fun Times; Fond Memories (Great Video!); am from OH and it is "exactly" at the 2 min. 37 sec. mark where I was fishing from the abandoned bridge about 5 years ago (200 yards onto the "old bridge"). A gentlemen caught a "pinfish" and let me have it for bait. I put in on my spinning outfit that I use for bass and catfish up north. It had a good sized hook with a piano wire leader. Within about 1/2 hr., I hooked-into something that I knew was LARGE. It took nearly 45 min. to tire it enough to bring up-to the bridge. I had walked back to the Land while playing the fish. I could not get down to the water's edge to bring the fish to land, so I walked it like a puppy-dog back to "show" the fisherman what his bait had yielded. It was a 4 1/2 ft. long SHARK (I had caught Dusky and Bull Sharks before using a Shark Rig from the pier (Sharkey's) in Venice, FL, but this is the only one I have caught on a medium weight spinning outfit). My guess is that it was a Sand Shark weighing about 100 lbs. Knowing that I could not "land" the fish to extract the hook (nor did I want to try), I tightened the line (hand-over-hand) until something "snapped". It was the leader right near where it attached to the hook. The piano wire was still attached (looking like a tightly wound coiled spring : ))) to my line. I kept the coiled wire on my wall at home as a keepsake of the adventure. Again, FUN TIMES & FOND MEMORIES!!! I hope to have a "Repeat Performance" this Summer; Time will Tell.
Just drove over this last month!! Beautiful!
When I was 7 my family and I drove down to the Keys (We lived in Florida at the time) and our hotel was in Islamorada, to be exact, but it was getting late and when we were on that bridge me and my sister didn't sleep. It was that amazing.
It was sad seeing the aftermath of Hurricane Irma. I hope they can rebuild successfully.

Ok
My wife and I went to the keys three times in the 80's, and we loved it.
I went there a decade later! As far south as I ever got till 2010 when we went to the Panama Canal :D!
I cannot wait to set my eyes on that scene. so much beauty will be sure to make my heart race!
I like this music dawg
BTW where did you upload it for such a huge traffic?? 162k views looks stunning!! Can't even describe your work on in with a words!
Beautiful video. In 1997, my husband, oldest daughter, and I drove from Dayton, Ohio to visit my mama in my hometown of Hollywood, FL. My husband had never seen the ocean, and, on Christmas Day, we drove to Key West and stopped and played in the ocean even though it was in the high 60s. Your video reminded of that day. Thank you for sharing.
Thankyou for the nice words. We are planning on doing a complete video of the Fl Keys in January.
Hopefully I am going there in a few weeks!
who is here bcz of #RajThackeray
I remembered when I went to key west it was raining lol but I still enjoyed it lol
ماشاءاللہ بہت ہی خوبصورت روڈ ھے ❤
I remember as a teenager driving on the old bridges!! It was scary when the big trucks were coming in the opposite direction!! Not much room to spare. Lol Always a beautiful drive!
And in the early days it was those old metal trucks with two gearshifts....1948,. 1958, fun times...and that was right before I was born, even!
What's the music used in this video man?
Good video. I didn't realize the Overseas Highway was that long! 113 miles? Amazing.
Thank u raj saheb.
Here because of Raj Thackeray
Scary than Chesapeake Bay Bridge
My dream place!
If you haven't seen it, heres our latest video on FL Keys filmed 2 months ago. ruclips.net/video/1EnyZ9zcWys/видео.html
The old highway was something
Wow, very nice footage and well edited! Was this filmed with the Autel 4k??
thankyou, yes it was X-Star Premium
Would you recommend the quality footage on the X-Star Prem over the new Phantom 4 footage?
No doubt about it. I shot with Phantom 3 for 9 months and I don't think 4 is much better, whereas as X-Star is much better. I think the X-Star Premium is the best in picture quality with drones under $1,500. Unless you can afford the Inspire Pro with X5 Camera which is $3,900, I think the X-Star is hard to beat right now. I did this review on the X-Star here ruclips.net/video/UAtBw4AvLkQ/видео.html
Thank You :)
how beautiful is that ! 7 mile bridge
GOD BLESS me little spat o land. My thoughts and prayers to the land I love...the beautiful keys.

Where is the walking bridge at 2:09?
That is the beginning of the 7 mile bridge just north of Marathon
Hit like if you came here because of raj thackeray
Nice video, hope to visit some day!
Pack a lunch when you take that road.
One afternoon II was going to SF from Oakland, to a Photo show....My God It was windy , really windy... I paid the Toll and took off towards San Francisco.Suddenly After Treasure Island, I noticed that the bridge was bouncing and the cars in front of me were JUMPING fron lane to lane..My car was doing the same So I looked back on my rear view mirror And NOBODY was behind me, they had closed the damned bridge, because of the wind Wind gusts of 80 m/h and more and I Thought I was going to die...I turned my radio off, because they were interviewing someone about this situation..
Ok this is Florida

I'm putting together some Key West footage of mine and the only thing I'm missing is some incredible drone shots!! (which you have!) Any chance I could use a couple small clips?
if you want to pull it from the you tube channel there would be no charge for this video, just give our youtube channel credit "CelebrationsTampaBay"
Very cool, thanks
very beautiful video
Absolutely beautiful.
Can you ride your bike completely across the bridge?
I don't think you can because the 1935 hurricane knocked up a section.
i drove on that bridge
great construction
Scary I went over this at age of 13 literally today I’d probably pass out
Thanks for that, great video - well done
Thankyou.
Thanks
This is great footage! Would I be able to use a couple clips in a personal video I'm making about a road trip from key west to Miami? I will give you credit
Yes that would be fine Emily, thanks for asking.
AWESOME!!! Thank you!!!
Nice
Awesome!
Does anyone know the mile marker or name of the location @ 1:03?
I believe that is on Lower Matecumbe Key
Found it - "Veterans Memorial Park" @ New Sevenmile Bridge, Big Pine Key, FL 33043. TY, Sir.
What's the drone used here?
Its the X-Star Premium.
