You're such a breath of fresh air in the world of BookTube Lesley! I found and continue to find so many BookTubers who love YA and fantasy but not much else. You reading so many genres is one reason you're a favorite Booktuber. Your videos constantly introduce me to books and authors I haven't heard of.

It's official, you are my reading twin! I discovered your channel a few years ago after reading and falling for I Capture the Castle. Now you mention in this video East of Eden and Cider with Rosie! I read both of these books this year and they were my top reads of the year. I will have to read everything else you mentioned in this video! Also, I've been watching your channel for years now but never commented before. I love your videos :)

Look forward to adding these novels to my Goodreads TBR for 2017. Of the five, 'Used and Rare' is what I am most excited for since I enjoy reading about people's book collections. I love your selections.

Used and Rare was fabulous and they've got a few others! I love books about books and this is definitely a keeper. I would like to get into Steinbeck this year. I read one so many years ago in high school, I can't even remember which one but F.Scott Fitzgerald captured my heart so I never gave Steinbeck another look. I would like to rectify that this year. Love your channel!

Based on your enthusiasm for East of Eden I had to pause and go add it to my TBR. Lol. This is why I love booktube.

Oh, I am anxious to get my hands on Used and Rare! Books about books and book lovers are special! I will be reading East of Eden during my "Year of Steinbeck" project for this year. I hope you will pop in to my channel and join in on the conversations we have at the end of each month! Wonderful list.. And have a happy 2017!

I also loooooved "Used and Rare". I read it maybe 5-6 years ago. Have you read "Warmly Inscribed" or "slightly chipped"? And yes - "Hotel New Hampshire"! This was actually my first Irving, and it was so weird and charming and unlike anything I had read at the time that it hooked me on Irving. I'm going to try to read "Avenue of Mysteries" this month, one of the few I haven't read. And I went and bought a copy of "East of Eden" based on your rave reviews in one of your other videos. :) Happy new year and happy reading in 2017.

Wow, I just realised how good you sell books. Last year I bought three of these books just because of you (East of Eden, Used and rare, Cider with Rosie). And I would have bought the John Irving book as well if I didn't have it already. As I loved every book you recommended so far, I probably should get your fifth favorite as well.

My favourite book of 2016 was a book I have read many times before: Atonement by Ian McEwan. (I cannot pick another one as my favourite of the year after reading it.) It is such a heartwrenching novel. Everytime I read it I discover new things about it, because it is very clever. The characters are so realistic! Each time I am surprised (and slightly disturbed) of how the writer can crawl into the mind of a thirteen year old girl.

Read "Used and Rare" thanks to your recommendation and LOVED it.
My favorite book of 2016 was "The Night Circus" by Erin Morgenstern.
"East of Eden" has been on my bookshelf for many years - unread. This year that will change.

Finally got around to watching this video and I'm really excited to read all these books. Also, if you like Cider with Rosie, I really think you'd like The Danish Girl by David Ebershoff. It's so detailed in its wording and I really wanted to jump in the book and see the world being described. Check it out and happy readings!

Ah, more books to add to my wishlist ;-D
A surprise favourite I found in 2016 was The Virgin Suicides. So different from anything else I read during the year, and it stayed with me for the longest time.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR LESLIE!
Are you already planning on which books to read in 2017?
I've been watching your videos for the past years and i think i can safely say you will enjoy "if this is a man" ("survival in auschwitz" in the U.S. edition) by Primo Levi.
It is a memoir of the writer, an italian jew, of his year spent in buna auschwitz.
I have read books and watched movies about world war 2, but none of them has lingered so much on me... Since i read it, it has not left my mind....
You see, books like the diary of anne frank and the book thief are so widely known and gained so much popularity (and with good reason, both of them had an impact on me as well), but i can't understand why this one isn't as popular. Anne Frank's diary ends when she is captured and Liesel the book thief isn't captured at all.
Primo Levi actually writes about his time INSIDE the camp.
The best part is that his writing is stunning, and he doesn't try to dramatize even further. He writes the facts without inputting his opinion/judgement, so the reader can judge for him(her)self, as he often leaves questions for us as well, the final and most important of all, is a man still a man when he is deprived of everything (hence the title)
And, against all odds, the book manages to be witty and has ocasional bits of humour even. Also, what makes it for me are the tiniest details of things he notices.
Sorry for the looooooong comment and for any english mistakes...Also, this recommendation goes for everybody in the comments as well, if ww2 is a genre you enjoy.
P.s. - The last chapter "Story of 10 days" is my favourite

Lucas Batista out of the ones I've read I would go with The Cider House Rules first. It was my introduction to his writing and it got me hooked. :)
