Don't know what, specifically, the laws are in MI, but most everywhere else, a supersedeas (appeal) bond for the full amount of the court judgement, plus interest, is required to be on file with the court before a defendant is allowed to file an appeal. This guarantees that the plaintiff immediately gets paid the judgement if the defendant loses the appeal and the defendant can't indulge in petty vengeance with tactics delaying the payout. This is why Guiliani has not filed an appeal in the Shaye Moss and Ruby Freeman defamation case (he lacks the bucks and collateral for a bond), and why Tru*p had to post $5.5 million to appeal the first E. Jean Carroll defamation case and is now scrambling to cover the judgements for appeals of the 2nd E. Jean Carroll and NY civil fraud cases.
