    This is GREAT info! My female Boerboel is 15 months now at 130 lbs, and thank the good Lord I socialized her and continue to do so. I totally trust her with other dogs. As a puppy though she really tested me….I had to be consistent. This breed is definitely not for everyone. I live in Hawaii and her vet never heard about her breed! I LOVE going for a walk with her because she’s great on the leash and she is definitely a head turner. I love her❤

    My female Boerboel is 18 months and just had Bilateral TPLO Surgeries. $8,500 in total. Costs me approx. $350 per month to feed her. I do choose to feed a costly diet. Aslso her prevention costs about $500 per yr. She is exactly 80kg so costs are high, BUT WORTH EVERY CENT

    I cannot emphasize enough how IMPORTANT socialization is. My boerboel's mom and dad were very aggressive and I was quite scared innitially, but I took him everywhere treated him like a handbag dog he goes everywhere with me and he is the friendliest dog I have ever owned. He doesn't take disrespect from other dogs at all he is a boerboel, but he is friendly always wants to play and loves meeting people as long as they are introduced slowly and approprately!

      Rui a quick question in terms of pack mentality. When Ares play’s with his Spanish Mastiff of Cane Corso buddies at ten months he is already stronger and more athletic than either dog and sometimes they will tell him off and he will respond by dialling down the intensity and accept the senior dogs correction. My question is that as he is only still a puppy is he likely to retain his manners or will he seek to dominate as he matures. I also intervene by moving the dogs on(concentrate on me and explore the field or sometimes give him a time out on the lead until he calmes down). He never gets aggressive but doesn’t get scared either, with non mastiff type dogs he automatically reduces his intensity and doesn’t body slam.

    • @EliteBoerboels

      Yeah, I've had 7 of these dogs and only one of those I didn't have to end up beating into submission or depriving them of food. You've got to really show these dogs whose boss everytime you let them off the chain or out the cage. They've got to whimper everytime you raise your hand at them. I've been bit several times already but those were just bad dogs.

    Would you pick boerbel over bullmastiff? Or they are equally the same almost?

    • @kash666666
      @kash666666 6 месяцев назад

      Ive had both, currently have a 185 pound male. Size is different. Bull mastiffs are big but not like a boerboel. Also my guy is so laid back. I would also say that they're stubborn like no other dog because they don't throw a fit or anything. They just sit down while you're on a walk and you want them to move. It's super important that they listen to you. And it's worth saying again. The size difference is crazy which means food is more expensive. Everything vet visits. I had to build my own crate, I'm a welder, to go into the back of my truck to transport him. He just didn't fit otherwise.

    I have one of Rui’s pup’s he is 10 months old weighs 65kg and eats between 1.5kg and 2kg of meat a day plus free flow cold press kibble, stroke him and you can feel his rib’s.
    They are best considered as a project which takes a substantial investment in time, money and love., the commitment level required is similar to having a child. Are they worth the frustration and hard work? 100%. Oh one last thing is you had better be strong because as well as you may train you 10 month old 65kg pup they maybe something that suddenly grabs his attention and the raw power that comes down the lead is huge(for my dog it’s deer).

      I’am in U.K. and my pup flew in from Elite in Portugal at 15 weeks so he fulfilled UK entry requirements. I had researched for about a year and went for Elite because of the quality of the dogs and the kennel set up. The extra time(4 weeks) that he spent with Elite allowed him to complete Elites training academy so he turned up toilet trained, new all basic commands and how to walk to heel on the lead. My dog is mow ten months old and has never once toileted in the house. You may miss a little bit of the cuddles but you get a lot less stress. Be aware that Elites dogs are working Boerboels that are highly intelligent and very athletic with a level of muscle not seen with most breeders. You will need to be fit and strong because you will have to devote a lot of time to them in their first couple of years. Mine is superb with children, great with small dogs and has been happy to play with adult Spanish Mastiff and Cane Corso’ since he was 4 months old. Lastly this is a very serious animal that for all the goofy fun he is constantly doing risk appraisal for me, his territory and all the people he knows and loves.

But for your case your boerboels are medium height to tall and physically fit just like the breeds standards requires them to be

      Thats good if you want to build some muscle in a short period of time for some reason, or to keep him lean or prepare him for a show ( which i dont do), but as something to give every single day i dont recommend, usually will make the blood to thick and will have him tired easily.
